I just love this. He looks so defeated and worn out when he says this. He looks like he'd finish that thought with "...that would've been nice to know earlier. Well, I'm out..."

Ok episode, anyway.

I posted a long thing about episode 14 and my thoughts about Skyrider so far on RB, but I don't really feel like going into it because it's late and I'm tired. But it's ok. A little bland, definitely feels like the original Kamen Rider but that's not really a compliment. I hope it gets more distinctive with time.

Hiroshi's actor just isn't good at emoting.

I feel like Skyrider is at its best when it has returning actors from the earlier shows. Mostly because Hiroshi is incredibly bland and forgettable, even moreso in comparison to guys like Keisuke and Shigeru.

I’m up to episode 15 of Black now, watched 14 yesterday. I had some episodes where I wanted to write the "WTF"-type of comment; I was initially inspired by the episode of the cursed village with the Satan-monster which rubs its horns until purple goo shoots out, but then I realized that the rest of the episode was kinda good. Not much fighting, but the village scenes were well done and this time Golgom actually had a serious goal.

Then there was the episode with the Eagle Mutant. Golgom kidnaps artists to train them as psychics, and then lets them infiltrate big tech companies in order to… compete against each other? Because… reasons? Oh well, not that strange, they wanted to destroy these companies so that humanity goes bankrupt or something I guess.

Then there was Episode 13. Crab Mutant abducts human moms so they raise his eggs. I thought this episode would be a lot darker then it turned out, but instead they have the women stand around the eggs and just… watch them? Sing a lullaby? Huh? I guess Crab Mutant wanted to take precautions.

But then there’s episode 14. The episode where they make mutant steroids out of tuna. That’s the greatest thing ever. They introduce Mammoth Mutant, the strongest of mutants (somehow I don’t believe that),he gets his ass kicked by Black (that’s why) and then the crazy professor tells Golgom that he knows a way to make their monsters stronger, by using the fruit they eat and… tuna. So they send the Mammoth Mutant to steal all the tuna. Like, all of it. That's a lot of fish. Wait… no. No! Curse you Roland Emmerich!

Anyways, a local Sushi chef is displeased and goes after the Mutant, with mixed results. Black then looks for the mutant, we get a musical number (Why?), Black finds the monster, the now stronger Mammoth Mutant shoots icicles out of his trunk (Oh yeah I forgot, the Mammoth has ice powers because of course it does) and traps Black with this power. Instead of impaling him with it. Guess it’s hard to aim with that thing. But Black easily breaks free with a new power: He explodes. Oh wait, not quite, the yellow stripes on his head, arms and legs explode. I believe the power is intended to send out a shockwave or heat so that the ice shatters/melts, but this is Tokusatsu, so he explodes.

I love this show. I think by now I have fully grasped the zany-ness. It’s campy, but not silly, even though it sounds like it is. There’s still serous themes behind most of the silliness, the Mutant-suits still look incredibly good and almost scary at times, the effects look great, considering the time they were made. Simple but effective.

And while the show has no real plot besides stopping Golgom and getting Nobuhiko back, I do like that they feature recurring characters besides Kotaro, his family and Golgom. The people introduced in the first episode like the crazy professor, that one lawyer dude or the chairman still make appearances as enemies, giving you a feel of an established world expanding behind the MOTW-plots.

It’s not my typical kind of Rider-show I look for, as I rather want a real story being told and characters developing, but it’s damn fun to watch. It might take a while until I finish it since I watch an episode like every two days, but I want to see this through to the end, especially since there are 2 key enemy characters coming up later I’m very interested to see.

I still have no idea what the plan was there. It's probably the most nonsensical villain plot I've seen in a Kamen Rider series and I've seen the episode of V3 where the entire plan was just to turn people into exploding flying squirrels.

Skyrider episode 16.

As if General Monster wasn't lame enough, he had to go and reveal his kaijin form. The suits in this series are just so awful. I'd say they're worse than Stronger's, which is a real accomplishment.

Least he's out next episode. Took long enough.

Skyrider episode 17.

I hadn't even noticed, but the third girl totally just vanished didn't she. Goodbye Michi. And for the other two + kid it's...ten months recovery for their injuries. Is this their way of writing them out of the show? I skimmed 18 and there's new girls, so I'm guessing yes. All traces of the gliding club are gone now...

Well, it's more than the original Rider series did when its girls vanished. And when Michi did in this...

Yeah, this is Skyrider cycling out its girls. I think one of them comes back, but I neither remember nor really care.

TV-Nihon's Kamen Rider Ghost episode 23 April Fools edition. God that was GOLD

After watching a little bit of Agito, I just have to say something. The camera work is REALLY bad. The use of filters and strange camera angles keeps breaking my suspension of disbelief (and hurting my eyes). Besides that it's been pretty good so far though.

Dark Slasher is very Metal Hero, while Gamma and Dark Rider really don't feel like they need to be in Faiz.
For the unused suits, Sedan also screams Metal Hero, while Pyron looks decent.

I like Alpha, I can't really make out Beta due to the stance and the lighting, while I'm not too keen on Neo Alpha.

Well, according to the wiki I got them from, which was the KR wiki, Dark Rider and Alpha are the same suit. Rider is a male and Alpha is a female. Seeda is developed after Riotrooper and is meant for military, paramedic, and police use. Pyron was meant for recreational uses. That's all I remember right now.

That was hilarious. Way more entertaining than the show as a whole has been so far.

Huh. I knew about the stage show suits, but the unused ones are new to me. I honestly don't think they really look like proper Rider suits, though. They remind me more of something I'd expect from a non-Toei hero show like Ryukendo.

Today (April 1st), to celebrate, I watched an episode each from five different Kamen Rider seasons.

Well, Seeda does, kind of, look like it could be a modified/upgraded Riotrooper suit. I would like have seen it in action. The wiki said something about referencing Pyron to something from China called Pai Long, something to do with a white dragon. And that it hints to it on it's right leg, which you can see.

So 9 months after I got back into Tokusatsu, it took me that long to start watching another Kamen Rider series, the last one I saw was 6 years ago(Ryuki).

I started Kamen Rider Drive and from what I've heard people don't really like it, but I'm really, really enjoying it so far!

I dig the aesthetics and the structure of the season, integrating a detective story with monster doings and even bringing connections from civilians and the main characters themselves, it adds for breaking connections and character development from the characters.

Shinnosuke might just be my favorite rider protagonist so far. The guy really reminds me of myself more than any other toku character that I've encountered before and seems to be a good balance of a guy who can have fun, but when he needs to he can step up his game and fight against evil and for his friends, people and justice. Also to see a rider protagonist struggle with everyday struggles for some people is really heartwarming to see and it connects the viewer to the character more.

Kiriko is also awesome, I enjoy the antics between her and Shinnosuke and she seems to be the action girl of the series, assisting Shinnosuke and everybody while being to keep her own ground. I heard her character worsens as the series goes on by multiple people so I'll enjoy her while she lasts :)

Villains are interesting; I like how Heart and Brain are both pretty intelligence and powerful, but Chase intrigues me the most. He's like an assassin, but he reminds me of a Kamen Rider and it goes for a two sided blade of Drive and Chase, and he isn't all evil.

And Surprise Drive is awesome, no doubt.

Drive's biggest problem is that it starts off slow and really overdoes it on the goofy comedy. Once it hits about the midpoint, though, it gets really, really good.

So what are Roidmudes and why are they being fought with tiny little cars? And what are Shift Cars exactly?

Roidmudes are androids capable of evolution which gained consciousness and want to succeed the human race by force. They can slow down time around them. They were built by Professor Banno who utilized the Core Driviar technology of his colleague Krim Steinbelt. After the Roidmudes went rouge, Krim built the Shift Cars from the same basic Core Driviar schematics and granted them the power to counter the Roidmudes slowdown and destroy their cores, which is the only way to truly destroy a Roidmude.

Carrying a Shift Car with you makes you immune to a Roidmudes slowdown, utilizing one with the Kamen Rider technology makes you able to destroy their cores, by Rider kicking the shit out of them.

That should sum it up roughly. Haven’t watched Drive since it aired though, if I remembered something wrong please feel free to correct me.

My problem with that, was that once they hit the midpoint, I just could not bring myself to care about the bunch of goofballs like I get the impression I was meant to. I genuinely feel people were far too forgiving towards Drive.

I have resumed my Heisei "Journey through the Decade" and started Kamen Rider Hibiki by watching episode 1 and 2 last night. I found the big musical number in episode 1 rather jarring, but far too early to make any kind of judgement. Suits & Monsters looked cool from what I could see of them. TV-Nihon rips in 360p... not a good combination. Enough interesting aspects to it to at least keep my attention up to the infamous retooling.

Taking a tad break from Den-O, I have started watching Wizard.

And it's A-MAZING.

Skyrider episode 19.

I got two things from this episode: one, this show really isn't very good.

two, this episode is amazing.

More monsters should take off their heads to fight. The result is nothing short of spectacular. Best episode of the series so far. Also kind of a crappy episode. But the head makes it all worth it.

Next episode looks fun, however. After so much of this lukewarm show, I'm definitely ready for something...Stronger.

Okay, seriously, how did I get it into my head that April 1st was the anniversary? I don't screw crap that like up. Ugh. Counting it for "anniversary weekend," I guess... (Also, being extra careful now not to miss the Sentai anniversary!)

Skyrider does start picking up a bit once the older Riders start appearing. It's still not the most exciting series, but it's cool seeing Hiroshi interacting with the OG Riders.

Reached episode 30 kuuga, Kuuga has still been amazing so far, definitely one of my favourite seasons of rider, potentially top 5 seasons.

I seriously need someone to explain what makes Kuuga so great beyond Ichijou being one of the best characters the franchise has produced...

Skyrider episode 20.

Man, this episode had it all.

RhinoDump is just an amazing name.

And I love how the teacher is just "kids, run!" and then she just grabs a bunch and throws herself and them to the ground directly on RhinoDump's path. Teacher lady, you are a class act.

And Stronger just...hangs around, keeping watch, but waits until the last possible moment to do anything to help. But, well, Shigeru is a man who values a good entrance, so I guess it's to be expected. Still, bit of a dick move.

Shigeru is also sort of a dick, though, so, again, it's to be expected.

Nice to see Stronger again, is what I'm saying.

My favorite part was definitely the two monsters bickering like children, though. That's always fun (those two statements sound a little sarcastic, but they're not. compared to the usual boring kaijin plots, having two at once and having them not get along is a welcome change to the dynamic) The fact that these two are probably the best kaijin suits in Skyrider so far helps too. Also, one of them was called RhinoDump.

Also, hey, first actual use of the term "Skyrider" at the end there. Cool beans.

Nope. Because you won’t try to understand what I like about the show anyways, you made up your mind a long time ago and I don’t think anything I say will change that.

@Topic: Kamen Rider Black 27 & 28: Pretty good. I liked the dramatic tone in Episode 27 even though it was a bit too much, but the MOTW was kinda lame and I don’t get why Kotaro didn’t think of a way to avoid his "You can't Henshin"-bombs sooner. Episode 28 was rather lame with the people going crazy over the beetles, but the fight with Bilgenia was worth it. Doesn’t seem like he'll hold up against Black much longer. I know Shadow Moon will appear around the mid-30 mark, so I guess that's when Bilgnenia will bite the dust.

I was resolved to completely abhorring ponies. Look where I am now.
At one point I thought PR Turbo was utter trash like the rest of the fandom. It's now my 3rd favorite PR season.
I thought Jetman was overblown and overrated. I've since cooled down on it and see it was rather enjoyable despite the annoying love triangle.
Hell, at one point I actually liked Decade.
