Considering most Pokemon learn pure shit while leveling up, they can be pretty vital.
Things have been improved some with the larger amount of move tutors in ORAS, but unless they lock away cheese moves, it would be a pretty annoying paywall.

I can't really think of what else an amiibo could do in pokemon though.

As I said: Clothes for your character. Scan the Mario Amiibo, get a Mario hat. Or if you have secret bases or something similar, the Amiibos could give you decorations based on the character you scan.

Something like that would be a neat feature without needing to buy an Amiibo to unlock something important.

That'd be pretty cool. A female trainer with a Peach dress and a Megaman helmet.

Though, in all seriousness, I anticipate it'll only be the Pokemon Amiibo with Pokemon themed outfits and accessories.
They could also add a few more innocuous things, like swapping the Substitute model for a Greninja/Charizard/Mewtwo/whatever styled one.

Basically, something that doesn't make a tangible difference in gameplay.

Watching some gameplay footage of later Pokemon games (Mainly ORAS and BW), I'm honestly considering buying R/B/Y just for the sensation of having a rival I want to see get beaten to the ground.
I really don't enjoy having rivals like Shauna or May, that are like "Aw, you pubstomped me. Good job! You're so amazing! I wish I could be as good as you!" It makes me feel like an asshole.

Playing through more Diamond. I beat Roark...after 3 tries, since I accidentally made this game SMT hard by only having 2 Pokemon, and having them be slightly underleveled, and only Chimchar had brick break for a super effective move...and I only had 3 potions. So, I grinded for a bit, and I didn't know Chimchar evolved into Monferno at level 14...convenient. After that and getting Shinx to 13 where he learns crunch, it was still a challenge, but it was at least manageable. I do feel kinda bad for losing to the first gym 3 times, but at the same time, it's nice to have a Pokemon game be challenging again.

Serial codes given with ticket preorders to Movie 19 (Volcanion & The Mechanical Magearna) from April 16 to July 15 (Day before theatrical release).

Volcanion will arrive at Level 70, holding a RageCandyBar and his attacks are Steam Eruption, Overheat, Hydro Pump, and Mist.

The HA Legendary Birds are also being given away in Spain and Belgium.

As for Sun/Moon, starter silhouettes and no substantial information as they are apt to do. That's basically all they tell until the games are about 2 months from release.
We might see more of the generic starting area bird, maybe a screenshot of a building, but I really can't generate hype when they tend to just show us 3 black blobs, a building, and a region name that will probably change in the US release :\

So i picked up Pokken.
My god this game is sooo much fun, i'm not sure if it's because i'm biased that these two are my favorite Pokemon or something but Blaziken and Gardevoir are the funnest to use. :lol
I picked Gardevoir as my partner mon and i've been playing online with her.
This is some of the smoothest online fighting i've had in quite a while.

There's already plenty of usable decent Pokemon in Pokken. The game doesn't need to be filled to the rim with Legends either.

Part of Pokken's appeal is the variety.

My one complaint is the lack of gen 5 Pokemon. Gen 2's lack of mons i understand because there really isn't a lot of memorable ones besides stuff like Scizor and Tiranitar and Gen 6 hardly has anything.

What? Gen 2 has plenty of memorable Pokemon! Houndoom, Girafarig, Entei, Heracross, Ampharos, and the aforementioned Scizor and Tyranitar!

Minus Entei and Girafarig, all the Gen 2 Pokémon you just named off can Mega Evolve.

Nothing wrong with that~
All I'm saying is that Gen 2 Pokemon are awesome.
