The Agito episode uses Agito's own experience of being an amnesiac to connect to Tsyukyomi, and the Blade episode is about two former-rivals turned lifelong friends, just like Zi-O and Geiz - plus, it has the final moments of White Woz. The show loves the prior Riders, yes, but it still develops and progresses the main protagonist even so. Even the Kiva episode is as much about Sougo as a person, with his first love, rather than just being "Wow isn't Kiva so cool?"

(Also, like, half the "Neo"- Heisei episodes got slated for barely being about the original protagonist. People are probably still bitter Eiji was overshadowed in his by Kuroto Dan at his most obnoxious!)

I don't quite get what you're asking? Wouldn't it just be Agito, Ryuki, and Faiz, since they're the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th series of their eras?

What I'm asking if a fusion concept would be used for a Reiwa anniversary series.

That goes for depending on the compatibility of the riders as well.

Ex. Kuuga & Zero-One are a match due to them being the first ones in their era.

The other Reiwa main riders need to be unique among the other Heisei riders. Like how they relate.

ex.
Saber & Wizard are a possible match, they go like how they're dragon-themed and their final forms Xross Saber & Infinity style see shining & diamond-like.

Revice & Den-O are a possible match, due to partnership. Revice due to a human & inner demon teaming up, while Den-O are like a team due to Singularity Point having his Imagin possess him for new powers & forms. Of course there is unity as well.

We already had Decade and Zi-O so no thanks. :lolol
Besides, we already had another legacy-themed collectible show with Revice recently so I would much rather see them give us something unheard of.

What worries me the most is that if actors from past shows return for the anniversary season, Zero-One will be represent by Dan Kuroto's humagear in it.

Zero-One also got infamous for making characters unreasonably stupid to further the plot, its handling of the first tertiary female Rider (extends to Takahashi's reputation too in handling females... even if there's Izu), and also making scumbags on Gai level undergo a redemption arc and/or also getting away scot free at the end even compared to the main cast's fate (though at least for me, Aruto, Fuwa, and Yua's reactions to it are good ones).

Well, the thing is, like the job competition arc, the final ar(k)c does get kickstarted with some idiocy between the characters (even if I'd think the execution is quite good and I think Horobi's redemption feels more natural than Gai's), like Izu approaching Horobi, while done due to Azu's manipulation, it's incredibly unsafe to do so without being backed up, and also how Aruto, after watching Izu got killed in front of him, wasn't suspicious of Azu approaching him, despite that the only disguise she did was adding blue streaks on her hair (instead of red), but her hair is still long, not short like Izu's, and he accepted Ark-One Driver despite that he already got the stronger Zero-Two to easily beat Horobi (at that time).

Wasn't Mayu from Wizard the first tertiary female rider? Or Nadeshiko from Fourze? Or, if you dig really deep, Saya from 555?

I've been thinking lately... Kamen Rider isn't in a terrible place as a series, but I really do think it could use a shot in the arm. What would you all consider the last show the series had that felt really fresh to you and what kind of new territory would you like the see the series try and tackle in the future?


I think the last series thst felt super fresh to me was Gaim. I love quite a few series after that, like Ex-Aid and Build, but Gaim really defined Rider vs Rider conflict for the modern era and most subsequent shows would take a page out of its book.


As for what I'd like the series to do to freshen itself up... I think it would be cool to do a split viewpoint of two opposing Rider teams. Kinda like Lupin vs Pat? (I haven't seen Lupin vs Pat.) I think there's a lot of untapped potential there. In Faiz I always loved the split viewpoint between the Takumi and Kiba's groups.

Yes, I would say that after Zero-One, all the shows look pretty new. Geats is similar to other Takahashi shows, but not to other rider shows. Saber is basically closer to the Chinese Armor Hero. Even Reviсe presented a rather atypical situation with a family of riders. So the experiments continue, although not entirely radical.

But I think after doing "Rider turns into Rider" & "Rider uses Rider armor", fusion would be a logical step. I'd kinda like to see it be done like Ultraman Z, where all the form changes borrow elements from three different Ultramans (Ultramen ?) Hey! By that logic, at the 10th Reiwa season you could do 3 form changes of 3 Riders

This wouldn't really work because of the current business model, but I'd be curious to see Rider go back to the early Heisei format: minimal gimmicks and form changes + 1-2 Riders. I'd also like to see Rider lean more toward the tragic hero again, or even anti-hero, but I'm not sure how sustainable that is when the show has to run year long

Geats feels like that 'shot in the arm' to me. Maybe I'll feel different later but Rider's direction as a whole and dedication to its concept hasn't felt this tight in a long time

Funny enough that's apparently what Geats was meant to be since if I remember correctly there was an interview with Yuya Takahashi a while back where he stated that while Kamen Rider is well known in Japan, it's popularity doesn't seem to be increasing but instead is remaining stagnant. So when developing Geats he took influences from other popular media today such as (and I'm not kidding) Fortnite, Apex, and Squid Game to hopefully shake things up and make things more exciting. Also I believe there was mention that while the Riders do compete against each other, Takahashi wanted to put less emphasis on the Riders literally fighting each other since that's become sort of standard fair in Rider vs Rider shows/shows with a large amount of Riders.

IMO Geats can feel Gaim-ish (yeah it had same director), so I wonder if people can also assume Geats is too out of place to be a Kamen Rider series or turn off people due to it (including you as you aren't a Gaim fan) despite its quality similar to Gaim.

I also thought it may come from how recently the Reiwa serieses all have troubled productions and ended up not being stellar, thus Takahashi wants to take the Rider series to its heights again in general. Which so far he seems to live up to it, though ofc Revice thing can still happen in Geats too of starting strong but ending up worse later (but the Desire Star stuff so far is stronger to have every characters having good arguments to be a Desire Star for debates).

Clearly, Tsukuyomi, now a rider, has charted a course for a mandatory female rider in every show.

I'm honestly legitimately surprised it took them this long to have a "Mandatory" female rider.
They've known since 2000 that the franchise has a large female viewer base (It's not called the Odagiri effect for nothing), as well as being well aware that little girls are also fans of the show and buying toys (Which is why Tackle was created in the first place back in the 70's).
Even if the franchise still has a prominent male audience, ever since Agito established a precedent for multiple riders in a show, they should've taken advantage and had more female riders.

Maybe they had a problem with the number of female stunt performers of the right level? I understand that you can put anyone in a suit, but in modern times it is much easier to notice inappropriate bulges and for some it can ruin the whole viewing experience. It is not for nothing that Sabella, Jeanne and Na-Go are portrayed by the same Yuki Miyazawa.

I don't know. The big advantage Rider has is that the suits are bulkier. Even the undersuits have thicker layers compared to Sentai, so something like that wouldn't be as visible.

My big question will be if they give a woman the secondary slot and accompanying form changes and power-ups before 2030.

I am not 100% up on this, but last I knew, Sentai was still using smaller* male suit actors for some of the female rangers.

I'm currently reading this and it's definitely jarring. Super disappointing. I have it checked out form the library, but if I paid money for this I would be very unhappy. Especially considering, as further research has indicated, the advertised translations were better.

If you mean the OG Kamen Rider Manga then no they didnt. The translation was good & was done by Seven Seas a different company.

The whole Kuuga Manga thing seems like a shitshow. It's a big shame; I was actually considering buying it the other day since it and the original Kamen Rider manga are the only things we get in the UK from rider's ""global push"".

What's even odder is that I've heard the person who was in charge of the Kuuga manga's translation did have a lot of experience and credit in the industry? Someone you'd trust to do a decent job. So this combined with how machine translate-y they are makes me wonder if a ridiculous deadline was pushed on him or something. Don't want to theorise too much but it just seems very odd

Given what I read in an interview with Tom Constantine the other day, Toei is just more likely to use stuntpeople they know, - why not keep bringing back the same ones year after year if you know they can do a great job at bringing a costumed character to life while performing the same mannerisms as the regular actor?

Such a gaslight-y response. Are we supposed to just be okay with a mediocre translation because at least we're getting a translation? Yes, we want more Rider in the west, but we want good Rider. Releasing a sub-par product isn't going to make new fans. That's like if 4kids said "You should be happy that we brought One Piece over at all!" One Piece had a terrible reputation for years because of that dub.

What if in the future of Reiwa's era, they do a Kamen Rider series in the style of Pokemon/Digimon?

Riders would have their own Pokemon-like/Digimon-like partner, where the partners unite to henshin, acquiring the creature's powers. Going through a series of evolutions.

Gaim was a Kamen Rider series that had mon theme (Pokemon/Digimon are that genre) in the Inves Game.

It kind of reminds me of Kiva a bit as well, with the bats and the weapons.

Anyways, the last two Riders I watched were Geats and Ex-Aid. I kind of want my next one to be less of an ensemble vs show and more of a traditional Rider series. Lately Kabuto has piqued my interest, but I've also been meaning to watch Den-O for ages and won a copy of the Zero-One blu-ray. What do you all think?
