Hibiki 35: I have a lot of trouble remembering this show is Hibiki sometimes. I can't imagine the first half of the show ever doing a weird romance plot like this, although it was fairly enjoyable Inoue stuff. I nearly had a heart attack when that one Kaixa-esque dude (whose name I forget and I don't care to remember) was doing the Kaixa thing and creepily stalking people from behind walls. Don't do this to me again Inoue, I only think I can deal with Kaixa once.

Ryuki 41-44: You know Toujou is bad when you're cheering for Asaskura to win. Also, poor Imperer, at first I thought he would be annoying but his character was well handled story-wise. His death scene was well made.

You woulda loved Image Comics circa '93.

Haven't watched Ryuki for awhile. I paused for some time on late 20s episode. You could say the series became a bit mediocre and dull during 20s episodes due to it's like "A Day in Limelight" episodes for each Riders. We only got the surviving 4 Riders there, well except Odin though. I might watch it again if time allows. As far as I remember though, Ryuki once again escalated during some times where Shinji acquired Survive Form. Anyway, the only Rider series that I haven't watched in any forms are Hibiki, Kiva and Decade. Can you guys give a piece of your mind about these three series?

Kiva's really messy in places but I think it's better than it's given credit for. Maybe not too much better, but certainly it's watchable. Decade is super fun on an episode to episode basis, but if you want good arc-based storytelling it'll be disappointing. |
I just finished Ryuki.
I'll come back when I'm ready to write an essay gushing over it. |

Watch Kiva. Now.

'Cause I think I actually like Kiva the most out of those three shows. It's kind of weird because even though I don't think it's a very good show (and this is me saying that), I've come to realize I have a massive soft spot for it. Like even its most blatant flaws are just kind of adorable to me at this point. Hey look, it's Buron Booster! Wait, did you blink? Guess you missed it then... :p |

Kinda wish there were not crap subs for it available. I don't like to bash on TV-Nihon for fun but their Ryuki subs have genuine errors that go way beyond "I don't like stupid fonts". One major one that always sticks out to me is in episode 38 where them not knowing what "kireigoto" means resulted in Shinji's line after he tells Alternative he won't allow any sacrifices being completely screwed up. He's supposed to be acknowledging that stance may be naive of him, but instead he makes some weird statement about it "not being pretty", which just sounds like a meta comment on TV-N's clunky wording. That's a pretty important character moment for Shinji, and doubt is a huge part of his arc, so, even if the more important first part is still right, and the viewer still gets the gist of the speech, messing it up like that really does the show a disservice. But now I'm talking like I know anything about translation so I should probably stop... |

Shit, I responded to the wrong post. Blade's my favorite series but Ryuki's pretty good too. |

Blade's TV-N subs are also pretty f***ed but I can''t remember any examples off the top of my head to rant about. |

Blade is greatest there is~

1. Ryuki
2. Blade 3. Gaim 4. Agito 5. Amazons I love Showa, too, but I see them as their own thing. |
Watching Fourze right now and then I think I'll watch Blade or Ryuki.
|
1. Gaim
2. Blade 3. Ryuki 4. W 5. Agito 6. Faiz 7. Drive 8. OOO 9. Den-O 10. Ghost 11. Fourze 12. Decade Haven't watched any Showa... *feels some angry stares* |
At risk of angering people, here's my list:
1. W 2. Fourze 3. 555 4. Kabuto 5. Gaim 6. Kuuga 7. Wizard 8. Ryuki 9. OOO 10. Blade 11. Den-O 12. Agito I'm just going to go... hide now... |

Oh wait... :p I'd throw a list of my own out there but I'm actually super bad at picking favorites thanks to my broad tastes. It gets really apples to oranges really fast so I can't in good conscience put them in numerical order. Wizard (and Ghost at this point) are definitely at the top but beyond that it's blurry. |
I assume we're doing what we've seen.
1. Ryuki 2. 555 3. W 4. Hibiki 5. Agito 6. Kuuga 7. Gaim 8. Kabuto 9. Black 10. Blade 11. Den-O 12. Skyrider |
Dude, I'll play the list game, sure!
1. Gaim 2. W 3. Ryuki 4/5. OOO/Den-O 6. Black 7. Hibiki 8. Blade 9. Stomach Ulcers 10. Kiva 11. A heart attack 12. Kabuto 13. Wizard 14. Agito. Ryuki is so fucking excellent in it's last episode if you stop watching just before the reset that literally renders everything pointless. Every character's storyline is ended beautifully. Ryuki sacrifices himself saving innocent people without even using his rider powers, Zolda gets his date with the reporter but dies peacefully from his illness before it happens, Gorou dies fulfilling his mentor's promise to Ouja in a last act of loyalty, Ouja is finally gunned down willingly by the police after being hounded by them for so long, and Knight finally wins the game, as he's the only one who ever really, truely wanted to win, and saves the person he cares about most. And it's all done excellently, on a technical and writing level. It is the very deffinition of satisfaction. Ryuki was a major mixed bag for me, especially Ouja, but that first part of the last ep made up for it. But then Odin decides that's for weiners and tears it all down for a trite, nonsensical "happy" ending where every character, despite all logic, appears alive and smiling. (even Ouja who should be in prison still, and Zolda who should still be dead since he was ill before the game started) |

B. Kamen Rider Stomach Ulcers is actually a favorite of mine, believe it or not. It had kind of a slow start but the characters were soooo good. A heart attack sucked though. Don't even know what Toei was thinking with that one. :p |

Also, why the fuck would autocorrect turn "ulcer" into "uslar." Is an uslar a real thing? |
Quote:
I mean, I've seen it already though, and the whole reset-button thing is hardly a secret, so I guess if nobody else has a problem with it that's fine. |
I'm not even going to try to order the shows in a list. The only one I haven't seen enough of to judge is Super-1 and my list honestly gets pretty murky outside of the top and bottom three (top: Hibiki, Black, W; bottom: Kiva, Ghost, Fake Hibiki).

And in that respect, I think it's a good ending. |
My list:
1. Blade 2. Everything else that isn't Decade 3. Yugioh 5Ds 4. Decade |

Okay seriously though, they did use motorcycles and cards a lot. Staples of Rider. |

I actually decided to hold back for once but I really think it's a mistake to act like Ryuki's ending was just an arbitrary happy ending for the sake of it, regardless of whether it was even good or bad. I wouldn't even call that an interpretation it's so clearly the point of the show. I'm sure a more tragic ending could've made the point just as well, but it just wouldn't make sense for Kanzaki to do anything but what he did. |
I might as well come out and say that I think Agito is complete garbage. It was agony to even finish. I can find something to like in most other KR seasons I am not very fond of, but there is literally nothing I like about Agito. My opinion is lowered even further by basically being a bad Kuuga in my eyes.
Kamen Rider Stomach Ulcers is such an underrated gem though. I legit bawled at that last scene where Stomach Ulcers had to kill Kamen Rider Hemorrhoids. I don't know if anything will ever top that moment even though the pacing of the show was awkward. |
