As much as I hold nostalgia for that show, that cartoon's aged terribly.

Maybe I word that a bit wrong, but the movie could do a more darker and deeper take on psychological issues with Cletus Kasady with a R rating. People are okay with comic book movies doing their own take and new spins on character these days. This is all wishful thinking, but I do hope for a good movie.

The 90's Marvel shows are not that great. X-Men is watchable, but far from being a great classic that most people make it out to be. The other Marvel cartoons are pretty bad in my opinion. I give those shows credit for getting me and other people into comic books at a young age.

The way 90s Spiderman got around censorship back then was pretty hilarious.

The 90's Spider-Man show was produce by Saban and Saban always had strict censorship rules on Fox Kids. I remember the Punisher having laser guns too (The Punisher is a character that should stay out of these type of shows without failing terribly).

I'm more surprised with how street thugs had laser guns than Punisher. Not to mention they apparently did a surprisingly accurate Punisher debut as a Spidey villain

Everybody in that show laser guns, even police officers and street level thugs if memory serves.

There's also the fact that they couldn't show anyone getting killed, and if it happened they got sent to another dimension or it happens off screen.

And the fact that they had Morbious, a vampire that couldn't drink blood out of people's necks...and the fact that they couldn't even say blood.

Ironically enough they made Morbious even more terrifying by having the plasma suckers on his hands

Carnage sorely exists because Venom was popular with kids so Marvel turned him into a hero.*ok Anti-Hero but it was the 90s*

Carnage is deep the same way every edgy 90s character was.

I think part of what makes Carnage appealing is his cackling glee.
He was a psychotic serial killer, and he still is a psychotic serial killer.
He's not complex, but he doesn't need to be. He's a roadblock to overcome.

He's not really a good villain in terms of character, but he's effective in terms of character morality, threat, and action pieces.
He's a 90's character through and through, but he's infinitely more memorable for reasons unknown to me. Not being a character with teeth constantly grit, always a stern expression across his face, or trying too hard to be cool, I think he can serve as a decent antagonist in a movie if they remember to keep the charisma he has as a gleefully insane killer.

I'm going to disagree with you on X-Men. At least the first 4 seasons. I watched the show over the summer for the first time since the 90s and most of it was still quite strong. They did a fantastic job of adapting comic stories into animated form while having to keep things toned down for kids. It was the later stuff where the show became hit or miss.
