I watched like, the first 4 episodes of Masked Rider once.

I watched Masked Rider when I was young.
Mercifully, VR Troopers and Beetleborgs left a bigger impression on me, so I don't remember a damn thing :p

Well, it's been a long-time goal for me now to eventually watch everything Kamen Rider. I have been conflicted about what to do about Masked Rider, considering. It's not even technically called Kamen Rider, so for a while I just was planning to ignore it, but I secretly knew I wasn't satisfied with that disqualifying technicality. I'm too much of a damn completionist.

Plus I was kind of curious about how terrible it actually was.

So, I'm doing something a little different. I'm planning to watch one episode of Masked Rider for every ten episodes of real Rider. That way I can get it out of the way, never suffer too much at once, plus it'll only take me 400 episodes to finish.

But yeah. I've had better ideas.

Masked Rider is a double definition... of face palm and cringe.

Maybe I'm just blocking out its horribleness, but I remember it seeming basically on par with pretty much any other Saban adaptation at the time. Which isn't exactly a compliment, but...

Rewatching Ryuki because...it's my all time favorite show so why not?

Up to episode..13 I think. Yeah, still as awesome as I remember it being. Think this is my third time rewatching the whole season start to finish, with a few partial watches or random episodes here and there.

Have I ever mentioned how much I love Zolda and he is the best character in Rider ever? Sure I have. Also Kitaoka and Gorou-chan, best bromance ever.

OMG that is awful, I haven't really bothered much with the newer seasons and just...damn, they really just do not stop fucking talking.

Really makes me appreciate fight scenes in Kamen Rider where there may be a line or two here or there, but for the most part they aren't monologuing the entire damn time.

Also, what a waste that they just call them all "legendary ranger mode" instead of taking half a second to come up with some sort of name/call for them.

I personally wasn't even aware other toku adaptations by Saban like Beetleborgs or Masked Rider existed until the past couple of years that I've been learning more about tokusatsu in general. I'm not even sure that any of them aired in Mexico, so I may not have even had the chance to watch them. Even if they did, I was born in 96, so most of those 90's shows are just before my time. Earliest I can really concretely remember watching Power Rangers is around Lost Galaxy, and not very well at that. My only exposure to adaptations from that era has happened recently, and I certainly can't say I'm a fan. I tried to watch some Mighty Morphin a while ago. Pretty unbearable too.

I really need to re-watch Ryuki. I loved it, but so many of the finer details I can't remember, just the main plot beats.
I might decide to give it a re-watch, too, once I finish Gingaman.

Yeah. When I went back and watched Turbo, In Space, Lost Galaxy, and Time Force, I realized that I wasn't really bothered by bad acting, so I couldn't pin down why current day PR bothered me so much, but that one clip kind of hit the nail on the head and helped me realize what my issue was :lol

I was going to say the same thing. It's like they're afraid the audience will get bored if someone isn't talking every single second of the fight scenes.

Yeah, but that's what's weird about it. MMPR gets a pass for being first and having actual charm, I get that, but stuff like VR Troopers never seems to provoke the same level of instant disgust from people as Masked Rider for some reason.

Oh man, no kidding. Audio is huge part of creating *atmosphere* in film of any kind so the nonstop banter in newer PR really takes me out of the experience. I think it may have genuinely given me a headache at one point or another.

I made an attempt at rewatching Ryuki in full a while ago. I sort of petered out around when Raia showed up (I think?), but it wasn't because I didn't enjoy it. If anything, I was really impressed by just how many early episodes of Ryuki are really good. I think there's a general sentiment that Rider shows usually take a bit to get in gear but Ryuki seemed to know what it was doing almost right away.

FACT: If every one of Super Megaforce's missteps were treated as equivalent to an average human footstep, they would circle the globe roughly 72 times.

Couldn't that be simply because more people are into Kamen Rider? Metal Hero isn't as popular, so there just won't be as many people around to see an old crappy adaption as a personal affront, like there are for Rider.

Also, does VR Troopers have anything like Ferbus? Cause like. That may play a part. Just throwing that out there.

But well, that's just my thought. Who knows.

I just got done listening to a podcast where Igadevil talks about how people reacted to Ryuki and some of the crazy rumors. He rambles on a lot, but his insights during those rambles are uber fascinating.

After listening to that, it made me realize the Rider fandom has always been crazy. Or at least since 2002. Whichever comes first.

I must admit, you've got me on that one. You have my sincerest condolences for even trying to get through all of Masked Rider. Hopefully you haven't gone totally insane by the end.

Better. Also, am I the only one who likes VR Troopers MORE than Masked Rider? I felt like at least the actors cared a little bit (mostly because of their dub over the first episode). But it's true MMPR is a load of nostalgia bull.

I'm gonna go with no. I've at least seen some people who like VR Troopers. You'd probably have an easier time finding a unicorn than a Masked Rider fan.

Speaking of Amazon, there was some really great special effects failure in episode 12. The ant beastman gets decapitated and you can literally see the hand of the person that is shoving the head off his body. Good stuff.

I love Ryuki, but the show couldn't even be bothered to follow through with its entire premise. Having 3 of the riders be special/movie exclusives was down right dumb. It also never made sense why Odin kept coming back.

Amazon Episode 16: The Garanda Empire are seriously dangerous here. Trying to set Tokyo on fire looked pretty nasty even if Amazon took care of the Diving Beetle Beastman with relative ease, the damage was still done. I am enjoying Emperor Zero and the Garanda Empire. The pacing is great that episode just flew by with excitement. Also Amazon is just a kickass fighter right now and it is so much fun to watch. Great Hero vs Deadly Villains. Great series right now.

Black 35.

I can't help but feel like Black has been a little overhyped. I really feel like it's, for the most part, just Showa as usual. But, when it's good, as it was in these latest two episodes, it's really good. I feel like this is the first time I've been able to say that since the first episode, but oh well.

Now that that Birugenia (who I found super dull) is out of the picture and Shadow Moon has awoken I hope the series picks up a little. I've grown to kind of like the High Priests, so I'm interested to see how they perform in this last stretch of the show.

Well, I think that VR Troopers was a better written show, which is crazy seeing as they stitched two different shows together and added some incredibly low budget (albeit well choreographed) local scenes where the guys fight in the lamest spandex outfits ever.

Various video games have left me with the impression that Gatack is the show's main secondary Rider, so I was surprised that he wasn't the first or even second. Since I'm a toy collector and just got the excellent new Shinkocchou Seihou Gatack, I'm already looking forward to Drake and TheBee.

Drake is the first character that's made me cringe. What I've enjoyed about the flavor of Kabuto has been its mix of cool, creepy, and strange. Drake adds "wacky" to the mix, which throws the flavor off. (See what I did right there?) He's the first Rider who feels (initially) wholly disconnected from the fight against the Worms, and wholly out of sync with the show's tone.

Also, we've finally got shadowy villains talking ominously, so... Eh. I guess that was inevitable. Is one of them Goro from Ryuki? It wouldn't surprise me, as Shiro from Ryuki also appears in this episode. I wonder whether the Ryuki nods are coincidental.

Speaking of that show, this show has clearly brought back one of my favorite tropes from multi-Rider shows, which is Rider identities taken on by more than one person. It's only episode 14 and already, we've had three different TheBees. I'm curious as to whether Ex-Aid will do this at some point.

Okay. Second Lamest spandex outfits ever. I've never actually seen it, but the Images are shocking. How did they think that was anyone's idea of cool?

Kabuto is my favorite multi-rider show, but it does get pretty wacky sometimes. Not that I minded personally.

So I found out about OZC-Live and I'm going to rewatch Gaim through them. It will be interesting to watch Gaim once every week instead of binging, but for now I have to catch up on 6 episodes.

1-3: Just Live more hasn't got old, it's still super cool to watch and blast. Anyway, when I first watched Gaim, I hated how silly it was but now I appreciate how this lead to the ending. The future-Mai is a nice touch (although at the end it felt quickly stitched together). Kouta acting childish until his sister tells him to help people just goes perfectly with the ending and truly shows the development. Also, it's kind of hard to picture the snobby Baron now compared to later where they are (kinda) comrades (?), especially considering the HBV. Mitchy also has some subtle character moments that show what he will become.

Black episode 42

Man, late game Black gets weird. Seriously, the last three episodes have all been strange. There was that one in which the moral appeared to be "it's ok to lie to children, as long as you're fake teaching them karate." And then these latest two have just casually thrown in time travel and psychic children. Pretty...strange.

Late Black is pretty awesome. Once you get to the mid-40s or so you've probably hit some of the show's strongest episodes.
