Samus looks AMAZING!! It's really cool they're doing an Emmi too; and I do find it funny that it's the first non-Samus figma from the series (even if there's a lot of obvious reasons why that is)

When do pre-orders for Figmas typically go up following full colour reveals like this?

Absolutely no set pattern, varies every single time. Could be next week, could be half a year from now.

Although I personally would guess within the next two months.

Guyver and Samus look great! Haven't played Metroid, but that other one looks neat.

I'm currently considering on picking up the Gridman released a while back.

If so, should you be up for it there's a new metallic paint version coming out next year. Might be cheaper, don't know how the aftermarket prices are. Or you just like the paint on this one better.

Especially considering they seem to be expediting Samus (by GSC standards anyway), so she could go up as soon as this week.

The jump from a jpeg printed on a card to full color prototype alongside a new prototype for another figure from the same game is definitely noteworthy. That doesn't happen too often.

That was, what, half a year turnaround time? Card in February, prototype in May, painted piece in August. I guess being a much simpler body style vs. having a bunch of skirt, cape, w/e to design helped speed things along... as did that Nintendo money.


Hopefully the figure itself doesn't suffer any egregious compromises as a result... I don't think anyone wants another Rikka Takarada.

I think it went straight from card to painted piece; I can't remember a grayscale prototype being shown? But six months regardless, yes.

And yeah, much simpler than the more elaborate pieces, general experience with how a Samus figure should work, and the Yen-signs in their eyes because Dread did very well and people want that merchandise.

Agreed. Although the real wait for the figure will begin after pre-orders anyway, to bring up Pekora once more, I think she was delayed like 3-4 times until I got her. Came out perfect though, it has like one paint splotch that is so unnoticeable in most poses I'm not even bothered to rub it off.

You want to talk about delays, the Styles swimsuit body released last month was supposed to come out in 2020. And don't get me started on the delays and The Wait that's plagued Sentinel's YST figures... Worth it, but still, I want them all and I want them NOW.

I haven't played Dread but I love the suit and I'm still sore over missing out on Prime 3 Sammy. I may need to grab it.

If you do so you can be at rest knowing it's from the best 2D Metroid game ever made. And maybe someone can borrow you a Switch sometime? I would if I could.

I mean I could get one if I really wanted to but I'd have to get over my General Malaise and hesitation to adopt a Switch just because of lack of games I really want to play.

I can relate, I had a similar issue, but when I had the spare money earlier this year I figured "now or never" so I bought one. Aside from the big flagship titles there are actually quite a lot of cool smaller titles that I didn't consider until I actually had a Switch.

Well, there you go; you know what to do now. If the person you could borrow the Switch from, for some unfathomable reason, does not own Metroid Dread, I could make you a PowerPoint presentation real quick, showcasing why buying it would be a sound invested opportunity for them.

What time should I expect pre-orders to open on Tuesday? Same kind of time as retail SHF Riders/Ultras? Do we think Samus'll be at AmiAmi and HLJ?

A little bit earlier I'd say, they go up as soon as the websites update their new pre-orders for the day. Samus will be at both, yes. Every store should have her.

There's no need to stress yourself over securing a pre-order though, figma are made to order basically, they don't sell out. I mean they technically could, but that would mean they arrived at the limit the factories can produce.

I only saw that happen once with a Nendoroid, and they publically apologized for it while promising a second production run which happened soon after.

I have seen it happen with a few of the Hololive figma but I don't think it'll be too big of an issue with Samus, and even if it is, a second run would probably be forthcoming quickly.

No, the worst you have to worry about is the possibility of a Goodsmile Bonus.

I see these flicker from available to order stop and then they are available on release, it's weird.

Thankfully I don't think there is much meaningful they can cut. The Omega Cannon seems to be a standard inclusion, aside from that I don't even think there are many more possible accessories.

It's cute but I don't really care? Clever idea for sure, but why bother with a piece you can only use for one, maybe two poses. Same with the Morph Ball, I think it's practically useless. I would say "better than nothing" but I will wait with that statement until I've seen the price tag :lol

Love the overall look of the figure though; especially the back pieces of the lower legs that collapse when the joint is engaged.

Bandai's been integrating that into a few of the new Robot Spirits releases and it's a neat little trick. I'm interested to see how Max Factory pulls it off with Samus, considering she lacks the bulk that Mobile Suits do.

Yeah and it's some sort of dumb limited release meaning not every shop has it and those who do don't grant a pre-order discount.

Don't care for most of the accessories and at this price point it should be perfect, but it isn't, the hands really need black paint on the fingers.

The price I was prepared for since most Figmas seem to go for that these days, but I wasn't expecting the release date to be October 2023! Geats'll be over by then! We'll be getting leaks for the 48th Sentai! Is this normal for Good Smile?

Sometimes. I pre-ordered Doom Slayer in July 2021; he had a July 2022 release date at the time but was delayed to October 2022.

So yeah, it happens, and also, don't count on this actually being released in October 2023. Every figma I pre-ordered in the last 2 years was delayed at least once.

Very normal for Good Smile. Their bread and butter is the Nendoroid line and now the Pop Up Parade figures are doing very well. This leaves Figma and their model kits as premium items that take much longer.

Also Good Smile works almost exclusively with licensed goods so often the process takes a while because of the licensee.

That's a bit of a shame, but when the figure looks this good I'm very willing to wait a bit

They've been building in (or trying) delays and extended development time since the start of the pandemic so the wait time's gotten a bit longer. Which would be fine if not for most places not allowing you to cancel, and the fact that it means that figures are likely to release long, long after a thing's time in the limelight has come and gone.

All this being said, yeah I'm kinda getting cold feet on Sammy right now even if this is about what I expected. Shin's announcement the other night and the likelihood that Shuu is out the following month, on top of my self-imposed restrictions for next year means that I'll probably skip out on her.
