@Sentai: Omniverse is sort of a hit or miss show with some people. Personally I love it after Ultimate Alien fell flat with me. The return to lighter story telling plus having a soft reboot via a device I cannot spell the name of really helped breath new life into the Ben 10 saga.
I will be honest and admit I miss the Ultimates at times but the new aliens plus the return of ALL the old favorites is an awesome tradeoff. In short it could be 2nd best or better than the first one or Alien Force.* *The first two seasons of AF. The 3rd had a few of the problems that UA had; namely trying too hard to force both Alien Force's serious tone with the brattier character tracts of the first Ben 10. |
I just found Alien Force and Ultimate Alien to be dull because Ben was so boring. I know the malfunctioning Omnitrix could get old, but because Ben had perfect control, his alien arsenal pretty much boiled down to Jetray and Humongosaur. Fights were lame, Ben was a smartass who always won (And knew it), and they were just boring to watch. He didn't have to fight smarter because he just overpowered his enemies instead...
Omniverse is a lot more fun, with more interesting interactions, better alien variation, and it just seemed a lot wittier with it's humor. Being a big cartoon fan, I don't have much problem with it's design. |
Honestly, I think the first season of Alien Force is the best Ben 10 cartoon out there. The original was awesome, but Alien Force had, in my opinion, the better story. Everything that I saw afterward, though, was just annoying. Granted, I haven't watched more than a few seconds of Omniverse, but I think that it won't be much better than the original series.

It's a very dumbed down show that's cashing in on the popularly of the marvel cinematic universe and just feels like a story made up by a kid playing with toys. There are some cool moments but trust me when I say that you aren't missing much. |

But aside from that little nitpick I really liked it. |

What actually do we have to watch?
Green Lantern, Star Wars TCW, Young Justice, DONE! Batman done until 2014. What do we actually have to watch? Another incarnation of Ben-10 :rolleyes The Legend Of Korra :rolleyes My god the kids nowadays have ZERO good hero shows. :( Who thought it was a good ideal to bring Teen Titans back? Instead of progressing with Young Justice they decided on that move huh. :thumbdown |

Saturday mornings are a straight joke now. I remember waking up at 6 a.m. and watching cartoons clear to 12 noon. Every station had them on too, NBC, ABC, CBS, your local T.V. broadcasters. Straight action/adventure themed cartoons. None of this goofy sh*t. Are they trying to turn our children into idiots now? When we use to watch He-Man or G.I. Joe. We wanted to be heroes like those guys. Some of us grew-up and took jobs where we can help people because of that. So what message is these goofy cartoons sending to our children now? This why I buy DVD's of all of the past great cartoons. So that my boys can see what real cartoons were like. |
I just saw a comcerical for Uncle Grandpa. So, that's what Cartoon Network has come to.

"This is a stupid childrens activity playmat!" Not sure why that line got me laughing. |
It's simple. Action/adventure cartoons aren't raking in the money or ratings anymore. I think the only ones that seem to not be flopping are TMNT and Adventure Time, possibly Legend of Korra, too.
Meanwhile, you have Spongebob airing for over a decade, and that tells networks that stupid ass stuff like that is what the people will want to tune in for. It doesn't necessarily mean a change in tastes, it just means that action/adventure shows have to be higher quality than what we accepted in the 90's (I loved them, but the only one that holds up is Batman: TAS. Supes, X-Men, Tick, and etc are not as good as I remembered). |

Remember Cartoon's original cartoons that were actually good? Dexter's Lab, Powerpuff Girls (Which I still think they marketed wrong, I know more guys that watch it than girls). I'd rather sit down and watch a marathon of Cow and Chicken (Which I didn't get either) than watch anything they show now. Even Adult Swim is on my last nerve. Bumps that are suppossed to be clever written by college drop-outs who think sarcasm is the only form of humor. Robot Chicken was one of their best shows, simple as it is. But I think they're that show that's been on so long that it's occasionally funny but is like that old dog with the anal leak and the crippling arthritis no one has the heart to put down because he's always been a loyal and loving friend. Family Guy has been on so long I've seen every episode more times than I care to remember, American Dad has a few episodes that still make me laugh (Roy Rogers McFreely for some reason cracks me up), The Cleveland Show just isn't funny. Bob's Burgers I've never really seen but a few times. Aqua Teen in it's various incarnations is like my opinion on Robot Chicken. Their live action shows never once caught my attention. Metalacolypse was one of my favorite shows. It was funny, the music was better than some bands out out these days, but they cancelled that to. And even on the night they show anime they still show an hour or two of their idiotic comedy shows. And Cartoon Network isn't the only one. The Hub cancelled Gi Joe: Renegades without warning, Disney XD cancelled Tron and changes airtimes without warning. And Nick.. Yea, that's how to get a show ratings. Six episodes, nine months off, six episodes. And then you have network Saturday Morning TV which has gone from being three channels to just Vortexx. And all Vortexx is are reruns of shows that aired on other networks. Justice League Unlimited, and Transformers Prime, and Qubex. Do they even have original programming? .. I miss the 90's. Freakazoid, Animaniacs, Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: The Animated Series. ... Okay I miss KidsWb. |

And why do you dislike Regular Show and Gumball? It's the same kind of obtuse humor as Ren and Stimpy or Cow and Chicken except it can't have as many penis innuendo jokes. Trying to praise Cow and Chicken (Which I do know you said you didn't get) when Gumball is basically that with more current humor seems hypocritical and just screaming "I don't like change." |

Gumball is the only show that makes me laugh out loud.

FOUR new episodes of The Legend of Korra are up tonight; two at the usual airdate and then the season finale is being made available online early.
http://www.hypable.com/2013/11/15/th...nline-tonight/ Could Nick be dumping the show? I know the ratings took a dive this year. |

The reason that I think that we're getting so many comedy shows is because of the advent of the Internet. For the most part, the visual media on the Internet is oriented towards comedy, especially videos. Since more and more kids are logging in instead of tuning in, I would think that studios are trying to evoke the Internet with their programs. The cost: less action and adventure. Studios, sadly, are in the business for the money. The money flows towards goofy comedy, so they begin to produce goofy comedy. It's sad, but it will (hopefully) come to pass. |

Then again kids these days must be dumb if Zord Builder and BH 2014 passes as "acceptable ideas" Our only hope is to support good shows like Adventure Time, Ben 10 Omniverse (despite what our resident Candi fanboy says) and one show I'm really loving so far Steven Universe. |
hey, I like ZordBuilder :lol

I don't mean to be snippy' it's just that we shouldn't be using the Internet to shape what our kids watch all the time. I hope that soon we'll be getting actions show back. At least that's what I hope will happen. |
I miss action cartoons, but this generation of kids has found their action heroes in other sources, be it games, movies, etc.
And honestly if the kids are enjoying all those comedy shows and having a childhood as fun as the one we had, then everything is ok. All generations tend to think that new things are worse, while they are simply different. |

Mine are pretty positive. Had some problems with some parts but it wasn't deal-breaking for me as it was for some other people. To me the show suffered from 2 main problems: - A very divided fanbase - A transition between 2 animation studios (MiR and Pierrot) The storyline itself was solid. It was at its core a Good Vs Evil storyline with some grey areas like the underscored question of Segregation Vs. Tolerance regarding the Spirits. The vocal parts of the fanbase feels like the Dark Avatar concept was poorly conceived and that the finale was layered in "Deus Ex" but that phrase gets thrown around so much, especially in the Avatar fandom which has become rather...divided. Its essentially G1 vs everything after all over again so I expected it. The animation for the finale was top-notch, the fight sequences were excellent, the music was inspiring and the stakes had never been higher. But for every good the show delivered "fans" or viewers chose to see what they perceived as bad. Yes, the giant Kaiju-esque battle seemed a little out there, yes Jinora showing up with the solution seemed kind of like a cop-out but Jinora's role was being built up since episode 2. I also feel the camps are being further divided with the setting. Some people want to see the series return to Republic City. Others feel it should continue this worldwide scope of adventure. Then there are the writing snobs who feel the writers/creators don't know what they are doing...ruining the franchise...etc...etc. I liked this season. I preferred the edgier more grounded 1st season more but the creators were trying to please as many fans as possible with this: - More of the Avatar World. Check. -Spirit World shennanigans. Check. -A definitive origin to the Avatar legacy. Check. -More beautiful fight scenes. Check. -****ing Verrick. Check! But the more "discerning fans" choose to focus on: - "Deus ex machina" moments - ATLA fanwank. - "Hating" on that "cheesy love triangle". I think its safe to say they care more about that than they let on. It's sad really that a show with so much love and effort put into it, get so over-analyzed and dished on because the show didn't go the way some fans wanted. |
So I caught the Hulked out Heroes episode of Avengers Assemble.
I did enjoy the episode, more so than Gamma World but…I've found another thing about this series that bugs me: It seems like every episode they're looking for a new excuse for the Avengers to fight one another, it gets kinda annoying that they're trying to look for this conflict every episode. |

Sp, apparently, Family Guy Sunday night killed off Brian. So that happened. I wasn't watching, I was watching the truely excellent Sunday Night Football game.
|
Yeah I watched it literally just now.
Pretty much the definition of jumping the shark, right? And I'm not crazy about it. |

If Seth MacFarlene is genuinely trying to kill Family Guy because he's sick of making it and wants it to stop being so popular then I say good on him I guess.
Not really got an opinion myself, I went off the show a good few seasons ago. |
Well Seth Macfarlane says he wants to shake things up, so... But I did read somewhere that Brain well be back in the next season. Not sure if they meant bringing him back or just having him appear as a ghost or something.
I'm liking the new dog Vinnie, he's voiced by one of my favorite The Sopranos character,Paulie. |
I came up with a brilliant idea after staring at a doodle I drew of Doctor Fate (which you can find in the "How is everyone today?" thread). Said idea is a Doctor Fate cartoon series with the same tone and feel as Batman: The Brave and the Bold. It would be a simple hero vs. villain cartoon, perhaps with a story regarding a magical artifact or a famous Doctor Fate storyline, filled with campy fun and good, old-fashioned magical beatdowns.
I will, however, settle for a Doctor Fate plushie/squeaky doll. |
