As someone who doesn't give a rat's ass about either Jaden Smith or Static, I'm totally fine with this.
|
I just hope Will gets Jaden some acting lessons first.

How exactly does Batman not kill anyone with his Batgadgets?
http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/...path-prefix=es I mean, that looks kinda... Deadly. |

I need to watch all the CW shows before next years "Legends of Tomorrow". It looks so good, and all I've seen so far are two episodes of The Flash...

So with the end of Convergence can anyone explain to me how it doesnt result in the destruction of pretty much all major universes?
I know what they are trying to do with it but it somehow just leaves me confused. And just a heads up I havent read it myself yet. |

In returning them the way he did, as in to the exact points in time they originated from, he not only saved their various worlds from destruction but also rebooted those other 51 Earths and simultaneously kept the natural progression of time on New Earth. As though history had not occurred any differently, reboot events and all. While the New 52 was a reboot that only affected the New Earth world, we had previously seen characters from Earth-3 (Crime Syndicate) & Earth-2 (JSA) make appearances as part of New 52 publishing as well. With no explanation for why those worlds were so different from the previous versions of them we had seen before. Convergence explains that when the characters were placed back where they were meant to go at the end of Convergence that these worlds evolved or rebooted themselves. Giving us the newer dark Crime Syndicate we saw in Forever Evil & the new youthful JSA characters we saw in the ongoing Earth 2 title. Essentially rather than being a reboot of the New 52 New Earth as people imagined we instead got a full on reboot of the rest of the multiverse allowing for a huge huge number of new storytelling possibilities in those freshly changed worlds. |
Aaaah thanks that makes much more sense. The way people were talking about it it just sounded like they prevented COIE from happening which should have just revert everything back to Pre-Crisis status.

Are you telling me that Convergence actually did something?

So while it had some sort of ramifications for the wider universe it didnt amount to a whole lot. |

The event was a huge letdown at least for me who didnt got any of the tie-ins. The main book was filled with alot of missed potential for cool story ideas and boiled down to an overblown epilogue for Earth-2 Worlds End. Filled with some mediocre artwork, overwritten dialogue and unfocused storytelling. |
Makes me glad I was only in it for the tie-ins.
|
Making it a weekly book really hurt that one in my opinion. Especially in those early issues when everything boiled down to the Earth-2 characters just standing around a bunch talking about what to do.

I only read the first four issues (plus the zero issue and the Batgirl and Nightwing/Oracle tie-ins). I really only enjoyed Nightwing/Oracle and Issue 0.

Now I have to find a buyer. Who wants four issues of a mediocre event comic plus two of its more lackluster tie-ins? :lol

So I just finished Convergence and here are my thoughts. First, there will be spoilers, so don't read if you haven't finished it.
For the stand alone titles, I read most of the Pre-Crisis ones. All of them were really good, especially the New Teen Titans, Batman and the Outsiders, and Flash books. It was also nice to see the old Abby and Swamp Thing again and the Legion and Superman/Supergirl stories were awesome too. Crime Syndicate was good too, but it contradicts things that happen in the main title. Oh yeah, and the JLA one was great because it had characters that aren't always focused on. For Pre-Flashpoint I only read Speed Force, The Question, and Harley Quinn. I enjoyed Speed Force, but Harley was a mixed bag. In fact, that one is my least favorite of the stand alone stories. The Question was pretty good, but I have no idea what the purpose was. The main story was a mess though. It made very little sense at times and the writing was inconsistent. Owlman is killed in the CSA comic, but he is somehow alive again in the main series. WTF? Then we have straight up heroes like Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel that side with Deimos, and that goes against their character. I just don't understand what the point of this whole event was. It didn't fix any of the N52 issues and all it did was show how bad the current incarnations of the characters are. I wish we could just have Pre-Crisis comics for characters all of the time because they were by far the best comics I have read from DC since the Retroactive line in 2011. Overall, Convergence itself was a joke and pointless, so I give it a 5/10. The stand alone titles I read all get a range from 7-10/10. |
My Local Comic shop gave me one of their new DCYou Promo posters they got from DC when I asked. I got Black Canary since it's also one of the new comics I plan on buying once it releases. I was hoping for Starfire, but they dont' even know if they're going to get her or get more at all. But here's hoping they do in the future. Still this promo poster is wicked, really digging it.

Awesome. My comic store has got one waiting for me with my monthly order, just need to go pick it up at some point :D

Has anyone checked out that Bruce Timm Gods & Monsters thing that premiered today yet?

Sadly I think he's trying to cash in on some form of Crime Syndicate/Justice Lords wannabe characters. The movie looks pretty boring and plain, the clip that came out today with Harley was fine I guess. Though she was needlessly deranged and they throw the occasional "screw" or "bitch" into the dialogue to adult it up. She was also practically wearing nothing and almost killed herself with a chainsaw before "Batman" just did it for her. |
That's disappointing to hear. I hadn't actually had the chance to watch it in the office today and I was curious. Thanks for all the info!

At the very least, Sonny Liew's artwork will be something to admire. https://cbsmancave.files.wordpress.c...?w=1240&h=1994 |
Dr. Fate, Black Canary, and Starfire is what I'm looking forward to the most, and with Starfire for me starting off pretty good I'm pumped for Black Canary and Dr. Fate.
On that note is anyone reading the new Batman Beyond? I'm still iffy about Tim Drake taking up the Beyond mantle to be honest. |
Oh god, now I'm glad I did not ask my shop to put Fate on my hold list. That looks awful.

On a separate note, I also bought Bizarro, Constantine the Hellblazer, Earth-2: Society, Red Hood/Arsenal, and Starfire. I enjoyed Starfire, Red Hood/Arsenal, and Earth-2: Society. Bizarro was okay. I really enjoyed Constantine the Hellblazer. The artwork is a great fit for the comic and John himself kind of seems like a mix of N52 and Vertigo in my opinion. Can't wait to read more. Gonna go and buy Black Canary, Dr. Fate, Justice League of America, Martian Manhunter, and Robin: Son of Batman tomorrow morning. |
