Kuuga and Agito are very different shows. The focus is more on the characters and ongoing plot, with the action kind of fit in around the edges, although both shows get more action-packed as they go on (and Agito, in general, has more fights than Kuuga). The shows started putting in more fight scenes and less story as they went on, leading us up to shows like Fourze and Wizard where it sometimes feels like there's large stretches with no plot advancement at all. I can't lie and say I don't prefer the older style.

That and The Grongi. They were the only Kr villian that actually looked like something that could exist. They were menacing, they were perfect.

I always thought that the Makamou looked pretty believable (in design if not in execution) - at least the big CG ones that are mostly just slightly mutated animals.

I just recently got back around to watching W again and wow I forgot how good this show is. Just finish the arc were Accel comes in and man I didn't think he would be that big of friggin' butt hole. Although I was very sad to see Kirihiko get offed by his own wife wow talk about cruel.

All I'll say is YES. Otherwise I'll ramble for a hour about how awesome the show and it's characters are...even Hojo!

I liked Agito just fine, the pacing is odd for the first half. Gills being off on his own irked me. But it's still a pretty good show. Kuuga however really is boring, especially early on. I mean sure it gets better later but I had to pick it up and drop it more than once to make it through.

I've actually put off Kuuga and Agito not out of disinterest, but simple hype. I'm afraid I won't enjoy them as much I should.

Because in Agito's case the charatcers don't do anything. Souichi has absolutely no motivation for most of the show, then when he randomly get's his memories back he's suddenly all gung-ho about finding out how his sister died. Mind you that's an interesting enough plot, but the problem is it only came about after twenty or so episodes, before which we had a completely roundabout nonsense plot revolving around some chick who decieves Agito and Gills and then just dies to fuck with Agito's head. (And even that took a while to happen) Before that he had literally no drive, no motivation, and really not much character to him. Same goes for Gills, who hasn't really done a damn thing, but at least seems like he wants to know what's happening. Even G3, the best character, is completely reactionary. Literally everyone just sits around doing little if anything until a monster shows up, then they fight, then maybe, maybe something happens.

It really baffles me when people say Agito has such a great story and great characters when that's practically a lie. The story has barely advanced, the characters have remained almost exactly the same since the beginning, and nothing is explained. I'm tempted to go back and finish it in one night just so I can see if something amazing happens that just distracts people from the first 60% of teh show being an utter non-event.

The only problem with the whole "more focus on story and characters" is that if the story isn't good, it feels very boring. Agito is slow as sludge because nothing really happens. The "story" drags and advancements and changes are so spaced apart.

And in Agito where the action is "packed around the edges" leads to the action being almost completely disconnected from the story. The fight scenes are so random and badly integrated. There's no flow, fights just happen whenever.

They may have added more action as series go on, but it doesn't seem like the amount of story changed at all. They just spend less time sitting around and talking about things we already know.

He mellows out pretty quick, especially once his backstory comes to light.

This Hojo is far more interesting than that lame mad scientist.
