I've considered picking up the Blue Frame MG to go for a "Sengoku Unit 2" custom. I don't do custom work often though. I really tend to prefer stock builds unless I'm creating something original. But I have a good idea that'll require a Blue Frame and 1/100 Mirage Astray.

Hardest part of customs is deciding what colour scheme to do.

I'm thinking for my sengoku I might go with the Gold frame colours. But do I go with the default or the Amatu custom? Hmmm...

Looking good, I'm thinking of something a bit more radical though. My skills are well, non-existent, when it comes to painting. So I need better parts to work with at a base level.

I feel your pain with Hobbytown, I have three around my workday commute, but I get in there and the prices demoralize me. It used to no be as bad, equaling about the price per kit plus shipping, and then one day it up and became extortion. Been an online shopper ever since.

I would go with the Amatsu Custom colorscheme. It differs enough from the base color scheme to differentiate it from its white armored cousins. Personally, I have the notion of coral blue frame, predominately light grey armor and lilac accents/secondary armor color.

Playing around with my Sengoku Astray still, I finished building the Caletwiches tonight.

Couldn't figure out how I would mount them without altering the kit but then I got the idea to mount them on the for arms to have them act as a giant pair of tonfa:

And I wish I still had the picture, but I've managed to equip the Astrea F Type with every single weapon that's included in the kit all at once, even the extra ones you get left over from the Exia.

It's one of my favrioute high grade kits due to the huge amount of accessories that comes pack in for a kit that's gonna run you about 25-30. It's one of the best bang for your buck kits(Pun unintended)

There's also a 1/100 Astrae that I'd really like to have. I don't have any experience building non-grade 1/100 kits though, no clue how good/bad it would be.

If scale isn't an issue for you, I'd personally say get the HG just due to the ludicrous amount of accessories and the fact that you can change it between three different suits.

Eh. I actually don't really care for 1/144. I prefer more bang for my buck in the scale department. Master Grade's are almost exclusively what I work with these days. The group build last year is the last time I built an HG.

Tossed the idea around with Sentai Tamashii & ZeoRangerV to do another group build. But with MG's. Figured we could get together and have everyone chip in to buy some dirt cheap old master grade in quantity. Like an old GM or Zaku. And then let people build/customize them like crazy.

Now should I start out with high grade or immediately go to Master grade?

Hmmm, well build a couple of cheap small kits first before moving onto the big stuff.

Though they make Gunpla incredibly simple to build. If you can manage with lego you should do fine with Gunpla.

As stated above, 1/144 HG kits are a good entry into the hobby. Just enough complexity to show off the engineering, but not the monetary investment if a master grade. Some of the more recent No Grade 1/100 scale kits, particularly those from 00, play the line between size and price fairly well.

I adore the Astrea kits, especially the F.brimming with weapons and dead smexy in its menacing red schemw.

Anybody messed around with any of the older non-grade 1/100 Turn A kits? Found the Sumo (Harry colors) for $20 and for that price at that scale it's tough for me to pass it up.

Haven't built them but I'm pretty sure it's gonna be like the older No Grades from Wing and Gundam X.

I've handled the Wing kits and they actually aren't that bad. Sweet. Then the Sumo shall be mine :D

I actually have that kit and the Turn A no grade 1/100. Both were a step up from the X and Wing 1/100 HG's. The only caveat I have with the Sumo is the strength of the knees. Mine ended up rather weak, but then again I've owned it for over a decade. The mekki coating has stood up very well to the test of time and honestly, that gold chrome will always catch your eye.

Come to think of it, it's taken quite a few falls from on high and still holds together remarkably well.

Unfortunately the price has gone up on the Amazon listing I was eyeing. No more free shipping and the price went up. But I do want one and it appears to be in stock at HLJ. So I'm gonna do it!

I have a pre-order in for the MG Turn X but I still need a Turn A if someone feels like pointing me the right way.

I wish the Exia would just go away.I have no problems with the suit itself,but we've seen sooo many different versions of it already,why not give that slot to something we haven't seen in a while,something custom from an older series.

I started with the HG 00 Raiser, but the problem with that is it's one of the best HG kits out there, so everything I've built since seems kinda meh. I recommend the 2014 ver. of the HG Aile Strike Gundam, personally.

I'm happy that the success of the show has warranted the release of some new kits. The Renascita is far enough removed in detail elements from the Wing that it has to merit an original kit.

As a casual Gundam fan, I'm excited for the series' 35th anniversary but does anyone else feel kinda awkward about it? I know the whole Bandai entertainment thing has been over for like 2 years now but I feel like it's sorta awkward for your western fans to not be treated with courtesy during an anniversary year. Even though the new stuff looks great, the malicious actions of the coporate heads at Bandai are still in the back of my head.

I'm not really sure what they could do for the west, maybe HGUC Wing Gundam and Wing Zero releases stateside?

In all of the hubub going around, I almost missed the announcement of a HG Airmaster coming out. It's hopefully only a matter a time before the Leopard gets announced, maybe a year or two.
