Ginga's theme is still the goddamn best. Even when you only hear it for 10 seconds. |

Do you guys think they should release the banned Ultra Seven episode one day? I get why it is banned, but I think they could release it to teach people on why this episode was tasteless and we should not do this again.
|
I doubt it will be released anytime soon as long if the WW2 survivors are still alive in Japan. If they do, they should do what Warner Bros did with their old cartoons.

Does the Tri-Squad used their bracelets more than once? Because I think that's my only complaint about Taiga so far, that the bracelets are used only once. At least the rings are a major plot points.

I think so, Titas used the Xlet at least twice, I noticed that. Not sure about others but it could've happened. |
Got my Ultraman Blu-ray set today. Looks like it is region free, because I can watch it on my PS4. So that's cool.

Longest episode so far but it's mostly a breather. Seeing all 7 NG Ultramen assembling felt like Avengers meeting for the first time. I wonder who or what Ribut meant by that another mission. And it feels weird that Yuichi Nakamura doesn't voice X here. X is one of the few Ultra where it really feels like there's 2 people using it so only having Daichi alone feels extremely weird. And damn, Royal Mega-Master really got nerfed ever since Ultimate Final's debut. Also out of topic for a bit, I know it's way too early, but I got a feeling next year we'll get Ultra Fight Tri-Squad that focuses on Titas and Fuma, possibly them gaining new form (since it's obvious Taiga's movie next year will have another fusion form but still has Taiga as base). |
Quick question, what is the entomology for Judar Spectre and Gua Spectre? I think they were first shown/mentioned in an Ultra Fight after Ginga S and finally defeated for good in X!

yes I've been watching it on ps4 as well.
It's a fantastic collection. It's so good I ordered Ultra Q, Ultra Seven, and Ultraman Geed collections. Sadly Geed doesn't come out for another couple weeks and Seven comes out the second week of December. Ultra Q is coming tomorrow though and I'm super excited. I've wanted to watch that show for years. |
Anyone else been following along with Ultraman Taiga now that Genm Corps is back to working on it? They just release episode 16 today, two episodes this week in fact, and it was really great seeing the entire cast work together to bring Hiroki and Taiga back together. Taiga's new power up is fine I suppose but it continues to baffle me as to why they felt the need to give him two upgrades while Titas and Fuma get nothing. I mean, I guess you could argue that Tri-Strium is a kind of a fusion between the three of them but it feels less like an Ultraman Reube situation and more like an Ultraman Orb situation. Did R/B Slugger not sell very well or something? Other then that though I really enjoyed the episode.
|
I have to go back and watch R/B. After the high of Geed which I absolutely loved, I tried watching R/B and after a few episodes I put it on the back burner.
It wasn't bad but Geed is in my top Five I liked it so much, so probably nothing directly following it would've compared for me at the time. Just bought the Geed and Orb boxsets that come out this month and am looking forward to watching Geed again, and checking out Orb. Always heard good things about Orb but still haven't seen it yet. ...I hope they make a boxset of Ultraman Max |
Episode 14 and 15 of Taiga is by far the darkest episodes of the NG Ultramen. Though my complaint is that Taro has yet to react to everything that's happening with Taiga. He'll likely appears in the final episodes though.
Quote:
And idk if they're popular enough in Japan, but if Titas and Fuma does, we might get Ultra Fight with the two obtaining new forms. |
Quote:
... Did anyone hear that? That was the sound of Fish Sandwich twitching in agony without realizing why. He'll soon find out :p For real though, R/B is okay. I really like the first episodes because of Aizen, that nut job is so enjoyable to watch. But after he’s "leaving"... well, I quite like Mitsurugi Saki as character, but I couldn’t get into R/B as a show anymore. Maybe it was because at that point the weekly subs stopped happening and I got too fed up with waiting and moved on in my mind. Quote:

And I gotta say: Among all the great things to witness in Taiga, my absolute favorite is Tregear. They tried to create a new recurring villain like Belial, and they made the best one yet IMO. He's phenomenal. Like, so incredibly evil in such a unique way for this franchise. He doesn't care about having the biggest army, he doesn't need to sit on a throne, he breaks the minds of sentient beings for enjoyment. He lurks in the shadows, manipulating everyone until they slaughter one another. Why simply rule a universe when you can dominate it for fun? Plus, now that we have a rough idea of his initial goal on Earth? Tainting Taiga to pit him against his father so Tregear can get a good laugh out of Taro being murdered by his own son... jesus, that’s terrible. I kind of wish he had a bit more of a chance against Tristrium, but on the other hand: Now he’s finally being called out once more. He has a new goal, a new mind to break. Poor Hiroyuki. Also, this guy had an "Ode an die Freude"-scene, so you know he’s in a villains hobby club with freakin' Evolto. Episode 15 was the Tregear episode and it was great. Episode 16 was the comeback episode for the good guys, and it was also very good. Now: I really, really like the idea behind Taiga Tristrium. Hiroyuki officially joining the Tri-Squad, how the bonds forged a new form in which all members are present, the beautiful rise-sequence were all of their poses are incorporated, the way they reached Taiga through the monster fight and then dropped Hiroyuki like a bomb into Taiga's color timer :lol But... I dislike the Tristrium suit and weapon. The suit isn't bad, but there's nothing really cool about it IMO. Photon Earth was neat with the armor and such, this looks rather generic. And the sword - yeah that’s the first time I'm saying it, this looks way too much like a toy. I was fine with the Orbcalibur, but this is not working for me as a weapon at all. It's rather sad that none of the power-up forms really do anything for me, but oh well, I have Taiga, Titus and Fuma, and all three are fantastic, that’s good enough for me. |

Anyway, the show has been utterly fantastic as always. I didn't expect them to take the angle that Tregear was trying to turn Taiga into a junkie, but I'm extremely happy they did. It kept the plot from feeling like a repeat of Orb's own arc about falling into darkness, and simply on its own merits was super well done. Lots of great little touches in that two-parter, also, from Tregear calling Taro "Number 6", to Titas and Fuma doing the preview narration at the end of episode 15, and Hiroyuki calling back to Taiga's speech before he transformed in the premiere, a golden opportunity I was prepared to be legitimately upset about if they passed it up. Not sure where the decision came from to suddenly introduce subtitles for the monster names, though, or that new shot in all the stock footage (even retroactively inserted into the recap episode's old clips!) that seems to serve no purpose other than to remind you the Taiga Spark is wireless. That's really the only thing I can even kind of nitpick about this show right now, though. And on the other hand, I love the new ending theme, so it all works out! |
Has anyone found the movies of Orb and Geed movies at Wal-Mart yet? The person at my local Wal-Mart was like "WTF is Ultraman?" and the other guy was like "Do you mean Iron Man?".
|
The problem with Tri-Strium is that it felt like the a super form instead of final form. And the fact that it is majorly red which is the main color of Ultra. If you look closely, most of the NG Ultramen's final forms have a few reds with the exception of Ginga Strium. It's not bad, in fact it's really beautiful, but kinda looks bland as a final form.
Btw I'm going to watch Max soon. He's lowkey the most underrated Heisei Ultraman (which is why it's a huge surprise that he gets a guest appearance in X). It's a shame that he doesn't appear in Mebius though (heard that Max's M78 is an alternate one like Neos or something). And speaking of underrated, it's kind of funny how Neos becomes the main Ultra for a tourism commercial and a music video. |
Double post, but yeah I have watched the first episode of Max, in the TOKU dub. The dub is actually.......... pretty good. It's much better than the current Ultra Galaxy Fight dubs that's for sure. Or maybe it just reminded me of watching those dubbed Godzilla movies :P
The only thing that annoyed me about the TOKU dub since it's completely a dub that means there's not edits on the show, and thus all the texts are in Japanese and as a result whenever an episode title or monster name appears the just announced it instead of changing the text to English. |
Finally caught up with Ultra Galaxy Fight NGH. It's been cool so far, I like all the little callbacks to each Ultraman's series (like Geed's catchphrase and him mentioning AIB, or Ginga quoting Zero). There's a pretty sweet "passing of the torch" feeling when Taro stares off wistfully as the NG Ultras charge into battle.
But the standout of this series so far has definitely been Ultraman Ribut. Like SengalBoy said, as a Malaysian it feels awesome to see our country and fanbase acknowledged by TsuPro, and in such an awesome way too. I love how Ribut is portrayed: competent and seasoned, not as a comedic sidekick the way his origins (the children's program Upin & Ipin) might suggest. He definitely reminds me of Captain America too (who fittingly enough is my favorite superhero). I think Ribut might be my favorite NG Ultra after Zero and Geed, and I need a spinoff miniseries now! In other news: I've caught up to Ep 10 of Taiga and boy, is this show grim as hell. It's really reminded me more of Seven than Taro so far, and it's definitely lacking the sense of optimistic camaraderie that's marked most of the NG shows thus far. I'm curious to see how Tregear's machinations pan out, though. On the Showa front, I stopped around Episode 26 of Ace because that's as far as I could find subs for. But hey, with official English releases dropping soon, it looks like I won't have to wait long. |
I'm enjoying Galaxy Fight too. It's nice to see all the new generation Ultras in one place but I kind of wish there was just a bit more of it (yes it's not done yet but the pacing is already clear enough). Seeing all these characters interact and the more Earth-based ones adapting to all the space stuff is fun.
|
Yeah, agreed, they're definitely short snippets. I just watched the latest one and it was fine; basically just the NG Ultras pairing off against their opponents. Cool that the Ginga theme seems to be unofficial NG anthem. It is a pretty badass song, though I'm partial to Zero and Geed's themes as well.
Also, have Color Timer and Genm Corp stopped doing Eng subs for Taiga? I'm watching Ep 17 on the official Ultraman page on YouTube now, but my Chinese is a little rusty. Anyway, the Ep 15-16 two-parter was pretty great. Tregear finally revealed his evil plan of corrupting Taiga (which is...surprisingly heavy for a kids' show, though Taiga has been pretty heavy in tone overall), but of course The Power of Friendship TM prevails, and we get the debut of Taiga's new form. Which is...cool? I don't necessarily hate it, I like that the overall red color scheme is more evocative of Taro-san, but it's definitely not as unique as Photon Earth's samurai-Gundam look. The Tristrium sword does look pretty bad though; not Geed Claw-bad, but it's certainly toyetic. I'm convinced TsuPro has the budget to make more "realistic" weapons, but I'm not sure why they choose to keep them looking just like action figure accessories. Maybe to sell more toys? But I'm enjoying Taiga, overall. The show's at its strongest when it focuses on the relationship between Hiroyuki and the Tri-Squad, and I far prefer focusing on the three Ultras bantering and showcasing each of their own unique personalities, rather than whatever guest star we happen to get that episode (like the sorceress--what was that about?). Which is why I actually enjoyed the clip show episode, it was a very comedic but character-driven way of presenting old clips; I love how the Tri-Squad bickers, just like how you'd expect close friends would. Onward to catching up on the Voice-Dramas! |

Boy, I love the throwback to Ginga S movie where the older Ultraman stay and fight their rivals while the newest ones faced the final boss, only this time it's Ginga and Victory who stayed behind. Though I have to nitpick about the very greenscreen fight. Quote:

Speaking of Taiga, the guest stars are pretty weird but it seems like it's the core part of the show, kinda like Kamen Rider W where they get new clients every bi-episode. I do wish they would change it though, nothing wrong with episodic episodes, but Ultraman has proven that it's at its strongest with serialized plots. ......Then again X's rugby episode and the documentary episodes are my favorite filler episodes :P |

Yeah I really appreciate that Genm Corp is still putting new Taiga eps out, it's the only ongoing Ultraman fix I can get besides the 5-min chunks of Ultra Galaxy NGH. I actually don't mind done-in-one episodes since that's always felt like the bread and butter of most Ultra-shows going back to the OG series, and some of my favorite NG episodes are those with great guest-stars (Tears of Gan Q!). But for some reason, it feels like most of the guest plots in Taiga are kinda mediocre? I'm not sure why...but they seem to lack heart. Like the psychic girl one, the sorceress one etc. The only recent one I enjoyed was the Nackle one, and even that episode didn't spend too much time developing Nackle's abrupt heel-turn. Compare that to the Black Directive episode in Orb, which had a similar concept but a far smoother execution. Anyway, I finished up the Voice Dramas recently, and wow Andro Melos. Seems like they're really building on every chunk of Ultra-lore. Oh, and Fuma continues to be incredibly likeable, much like Titas and Taiga. |
So I've compiled an Ultraman Watch Order, if anyone needs it. Let me know if I'm missing anything!

Thank you for letting me know of that odd Ultraman vs Kamen Rider special, just so I was able to see the part where Ichigou drives a motorcycle straight through a kaiju's head.
|
well,... now I need to hunt that down.
Thanks for the list, I'm sure it will help people. edit: yup, punching the motorcycle through a Kaiju head was totally worth watching for.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qDh4qfcfoRA |
A passing to announce for Showa Era fans!
Jin Nakayama, Captain Kazuki Oyama in Ultraman 80, passed away at 77 back in October due to lung cancer. http://tokusatsunetwork.com/2019/11/...es-away-at-77/ http://ukiyaseed.weebly.com/ukiyasee...ma-passed-away |
Shame about Mr. Nakayama's passing. I haven't got around to 80 yet (since I was a wee lad), but it's sad to hear regardless.
Also, I caught the latest installment of Ultra Galaxy Fight. It's cool, just more of your typical CG Ultra-action, plus we get an evil palette-swap of Zero (which I didn't think was necessary given Darklops Zero, but alright). I can't complain too much since we got Geed Solid Burning too, which is my favorite alt-form of the NG Ultras, but honestly I'm just waiting for the story to jump back to Ribut. |
Ultraman Orb and Geed bluray collections just arrived. They look great. I really like that they also come with the streaming codes for the moviespree.com site, so I can watch the blurays at home, or stream the shows on my phone when I'm away. So far Ultraman, Ultra Q, Ultraman Orb and Ultraman Geed collections have all come with the streaming codes. They're a pretty great deal I think. Really excited to have Geed on bluray, he's one of my favorite Ultras.
...also.... MOA!! https://i.imgur.com/ySCcQ1Z.jpg |
It looks like the transfers for Ultraman 1966 are iffy. From what I was told, Mill Creek was given older transfers and not the same one from the Japanese Blu-Rays. I still want to get this set though.

It's a good set. It looks better than the dvds or harddrive copies i have.
And Ultra Q looks shockingly good for such an old B&W show |
man I am just loving watching Geed again.

I know not many people really cared since it's just basically a recap show, but I wonder what is the next Chronicle series will be?
Not that they are important but these series are meant to fill in the Ultraman timeslot while we're waiting on a proper Ultra series. I'd love for the next Ultra series to be longer than 25 episodes but that'll mean they'll have to sacrifice the quality a bit. Then again 25 episodes are extremely plenty. And while we're at it let's speculate yet again what gimmick they will use next. I think Tsuburaya wanted to use something else than Legacy Ultras, and R/B was criticized for relying on past Ultras even though they ultimately had nothing to do with the actual story. |
I don't speak Japanese so I can't watch properly but I've watched a few clips of Chronicle and they clearly put some effort in. Given that Booska got a turn, not sure anyone would surprise me now. I dunno, Snake Darkness and a random talking Pigmon?
I wouldn't mind a completely independent gimmick. Spark Dolls, Cyber Cards, Ultra Fusion Cards, Ultra Capsules, R/B crystals and Taiga keys/bracelets/rings all use old Ultra and/or kaiju powers. It's kind of cool but they absolutely don't need to do it every time. Ginga billed itself as an anniversary series and Taiga goes heavier than normal on continuity but otherwise it is a little superfluous. While I enjoyed both, it is kind of weird we had two different Ultras who fused previous Ultras. R/B is kind of the worst offender as those absolutely could have just been elemental powers. They could still sell Legend Ultra ones as toy exclusives if they insist. |
I like the Kamen Rider toys (henshin belts) and own a couple, but I never really got the urge for Ultraman stuff. I have about 10 Ultra Vinyls and I plan on getting a couple SHF Ultras, but that's about it.
Wanted to get the Geed Riser but after watching reviews, unlike the Rider belts that actually mimic what happens on the show, the Geed Riser really doesn't. If it lit up with 2 colored DNA coils and made that heartbeat (thumpa/thumpa) sound like we see on the show, I'd want to get it because it would be an actual replica. But it doesn't make the sounds, and the light effect is really weak and lame, it's just a light at the bottom of the coil, it doesn't light up the two colored strands like the show. Pretty disappointing. |
Quote:
I would like them to take a risk, but it would really be divisive and potential franchise killer if they didn't. But if it weren't for Ryuki being so different Kamen Rider would've stayed Karate Bugmen for years (not that that's a bad thing, the opposite actually, but we'll never get the likes of Gaim and Ghost). Then again it would be freaking awesome if next Ultraman would be ghost themed or something. Personally I want them to have another cyber theme, like X but fully digital, and since SSSS Gridman is a huge success it wouldn't be impossible if they didn't want to try and make another cyber-themed Ultra. |
Moa is best girl indeed. I love Geed (as my PFP and handle might imply), it’s the series that brought me back to the franchise as a whole, and I think it’s still the strongest of the NG Ultra shows.
Speaking of the NG Ultras, the new episode of Galaxy Fight dropped. As hinted, we got the spotlight on Zero here with all the Ultras using their Zero-inspired forms while his awesome theme played in the B/G. Also, Ribut’s finally back! And also Tregear...who feels a little overused to me now? Anyway, yeah I would like a different gimmick for the next Ultraman, preferably one that doesn’t rely on past Ultras but tries to build its own mythology. Maybe something more along the lines of Tiga/Gaia, Nexus. |
