Aww, but where's the fun in that? :( Quote:
I think I'm gonna pull off a Tamashi Nations and hold off on Kiva. That's something we've gotta build up to. |

Faiz 15.
Well, Kusaka's a dick. #confirmed He also got a robot, somehows. |
Faiz 16
I think this is the first episode I didn't really enjoy. I blame Kusaka. What an unlikable little shit. Even outside of him though, stupid drama levels are near or at Kiva levels, which is just unfortunate. Learn to use your words, Takumi, you wolfy shit! |
I'll put this here since the thread for Ex-Aid spin offs is dead, but I finally found and watched the last part of the Genm special.
Thoughts? Confused, mostly. What was that ending? The first part made it seem like Genm having a Ganbarizing machine was a big deal since Emu didn't recognize it (and, you know, it's a game based after the Kamen Rider franchise), but it wasn't explained. It just ends with early-series Dan and Parad looking at their legend rider/game gashat collection and saying it's all going according to plan. What plan? Was that a cliffhanger or just a half-assed, "we'll never speak of this again, it's not canon" style ending? I honestly can't tell. I'd also ask why Parad was pretending to be Doctor Pacman, but like I said in the newest episode thread, I think that may have something to do with next episode's revelations. I'm actually kind of wondering if Ex-Aid's specials are setting up for some big thing, either the summer movie, a final special, or the post-series stuff? Between the Foundation X tease in Brave and the legend gashats apparently having a bigger purpose, I feel like these stories aren't quite over yet. If Snipe Episode Zero and/or the Lazer DVD have similar endings that will really cement the idea in my mind. Speaking of which, I also watched the first part of Snipe Episode Zero, but I can't say I have many thoughts about it yet, other than really hoping that BangBang Tank gets used for more than a finisher. |

It hasn't gotten any better, but it has gotten me to laugh at Ferbus gags on approximately two occasions, so I'm pretty sure it has successfully broken my brain. |

Faiz 19.
I feel bad for poor Chaco. Also it's amazing how quickly I went back to enjoying the show once Kusaka fucked off. I know it won't last but I'll savor it while it does. edit: oh, and Kamen Rider 94. This little Shocker Rider arc was pretty cool, sort of wish they could have kept it going a bit longer, maybe to the very end, but oh well. |
Black 1-5:
Kotaro is a very endearing main character, 5 episodes in and I already think he's significantly more interesting than Shiro, not to mention very sweet. I also like how stylish this show is, I'm getting Kuuga vibes in that sense. I think I'm gonna have a fun time. Loved the random satanic goat cult in episode 5 too. :lol |
Kamen Rider 98.
I have reached the end at long last. I don't know whether I'm happier just to have one more show under my belt or because I never have to watch XIG subs again. I wasn't the biggest fan of this show after I watched the first 43 episodes back in 2015 (time sure flies). But I feel like my opinion on it cooled with time. I still don't think it's that great and it had a lot of the same issues that bothered me about the first part, but eh. Wasn't all that bad either. The ending was...something? Something. Perhaps the most anticlimactic finish to a Rider I've seen. Shocker Rider arc would have been a cool place to wrap things up, honestly. The ending was just weak comparatively. So that just leaves two Showa series to watch. I'll get to V3 and Black RX in due time. For now, I'll be switching gears to some more Sentai alongside Faiz. Should be fun. |
What's wrong with XIG subs?

Worst of all is the way he used to translate familial terms. If someone called Takeshi "Takeshi-niichan" (and someone usually did) that'd be translated as "Brother Takeshi." Same with girls, who'd get turned into "Sister So-and-so." Made it sound like all these characters were in some sort of religious order. I mean, he really should have realized something was wrong with his approach once he released an episode with a line that went "What a weird uncle," but it took until he released the last..20 or so?..episodes of the original show to correct this. His v2s are probably better on the whole, but at this point I just can't be bothered. And this. I still consider this unacceptable: Quote:
What else...oh yeah, he also tended to sub grade schoolers using words like "bastard!" and the like. Usually I really don't care about profanity but at some point you're just being an idiot. But regardless, again, they're not exactly awful or unwatchable or anything, they get the job done, but if I had to do things over I probably would have just saved myself the headaches over stylistic choices and watched these shows raw. |
So I've decided to go with Hibiki for my next watch. I can already tell Hibiki is gonna be one of my favorite primary Riders. He's the type of lovable, laid back character that I love so much.

Black 6-10:
So many good episodes in this bunch, but my favorites were "Tokyo nearly gets destroyed by the population's shitty taste in jewelry" and "Kotaro gets owned by a bunch of violinists". This show manages to be very entertaining on an episode by episode basis. :D |

I'm currently watching Ex-aid right now. Also finished GoRider, which was very cool!

Just rewatched the last episode of Fourze, and man...if you ever need a real tearjerker...this episode will do the trick.

I adore OOO's ending. Satisfying climax, good resolution with a bittersweet note? Loved it~
|
Fourze's finale didn't do much for me. The last minute faceturn for the final boss was really forced and unconvincing, even for a show that was based around friendship. All the stuff with Kengo was also really derivative of Philip's fate in W.
For my money, Blade still has the all-time best Rider finale. I'm also a big fan of Black's downer ending. |

I think my favorite in this bunch was Golgom's evil plan buy all the tuna they could to power up their Kaijin, depriving chefs of this delicious fish! |
Finally finished Gaim. The last few episodes were really... weird, plot-wise, but I was still emotionally engaged, so I still I enjoyed them.
Dammit I would really like to see a sequel series about Micchy as the new hero. As a former villain and a really smart guy he would be a really different kind of main rider. |
It seems nyaa is down :( Some good alternative if this is definitive?

Whoops lol. Just realized wrong thread. Sorry.

Faiz 28.
I'd forgotten all these Faiz characters were actually supposed to be teenagers. Also man, Kitazaki lives up to the hype. That dude is creepy. |
Faiz 30.
You know, Kusaka really hadn't been that big of a shitstain for the past dozen-odd episodes. Things were going ok. But now he's back and shittier than ever, ready to ruin the show for me again. Le sad sigh. And just when I thought Takumi and Kiba could finally be bros. Also this preview has got to be kidding me, was Mio's hilarious death just a reference to Mari protecting Sawada all along? Because damn girl, you sure got a thing for covering dudes who don't really deserve it that much? |

I think to enjoy Faiz, some degree of enjoying the bullshit communication is required. It's a rough ride otherwise, I'm sure, haha.

That being said, the fact that Yuka and Keitaro still don't know each other's names has gone way past dumb to unrealistic levels of contrived though. They don't interact enough lately for it to be a big deal but it is still unbelievably stupid. There's just...the more I think about it, I become increasingly convinced that Faiz really isn't much better than Kiva, even though I'm enjoying it far more than I was Kiva right around this point in the show. It's definitely more consistently written and I think its characters are better, but there's still so many little just...dumb little things and contrivances going on all the time. Maybe I'm just more forgiving because Takumi doesn't feel as stagnant as Wataru. And because romance bullshit isn't taking up so much of the plot. I mean, there's still a fair bit of that going on, I guess, but at least Takumi isn't actually involved in any of it. And for all the crap I give Kusaka, he's so much better written than 753. Also, Kiba is kind of really great. Dude is really making me want to order a horse man shf. |
The key to "enjoying" Faiz is accepting the fact that it's written by Toshiki Inoue - the most bizarre and potentially cynical man in toku. This guy:

I was really enjoying Faiz as I watched it. It was only when I stopped and looked back on the entire experience that the true horror sank in.
