So, those last three episodes of Oriemo. They sure happened.
Really didn't expect it to go that far. Certainly brought the drama that's for sure. Manami was the perfect choice to react like that. |
Anime is a wibbly wobbly word. In Japan, it's simply shorthand for animation and is interchangeable with with cartoon. The typical, and very flawed, definition outside of Japan is "animation made in Japan." This is very flawed as half the American cartoons made in the 80's and 90's were animated in Japan making things like Ducktales and Animaniacs into anime.
The best definition I've come across is "animation intended for a Japanese audiences." There's still exceptions to this definition as sometimes it's intended for a different country. As I said, anime is a wibbly wobbly word that's hard to define outside of Japan. ANYWAYS, been watching on Blassreiter. I wanted to see some of Gen the Butcher's work before Gaim started and this is what Netflix had. I'm 9 episodes in and 3 major characters are already dead. I'm glad to see the nickname doesn't lie. It's a Local/Henshin Hero show that's similar to Kamen Rider, but closer to Garo for it's adult content. |

It's a very annoying dilemma. |

Also kind of wish there were alternate endings, just like an eroge, so I can have one where he ends up with Ayase. :lol |

Caught up on Attack on Titan last night. Now I have to deal with waiting week to week for the next episode *sigh*. Think I'll try out that Puella Magi Madoka Magica guncannon109 and ZeoRangerV recommended tonight.

But Ayase would be perfect. |
I've been watching Bakemonogatari season 2. Man, this show takes so much of my attention. I'm surprised at how (relatively) little ecchi there was in the first two episodes.

Shower scene: check Black hanekawa going around semi-naked: actually avoided, that's an improvement. So I guess there's more fanservice but at the same time there's less fanservice. :lol |

Edit: and yes, it's short but oh so sweet... just watch out for Kyubey. :lol |
I had this itch to get back into Vanguard, so I decided to watch the anime starting with season 1 of course.
What is it about this anime that's just…so damned entertaining? I mean, it's about kids playing a freaking card game and yet…I honestly think it's better then Yugioh. Mostly because of the down to earth approach and the fact that it never takes itself too seriously. |
G-Gundam 11. The last episode, before the deciding episode. And eh, it suffered from all the same problems. The Gundam of the week was insanely cool, but put up no fight at all so the action was self contained largely to the final thirty seconds of the episode. Every new story revelation around the Devil Gundam is retarded etc etc

Ok, anyway...it looks cool, it'll be interesting to see what kind of personality they give red. It would be hilarious if they made him like Yu Narukami in Persona 4: The Animation. Anyway, I'm watching Sword Art Online, because my friends keep bothering my to watch it. I saw the first two episode, and they were pretty good. The whole "being trapped in a videogame" story isn't really my thing, but it certainly is interesting so far. Though, I have heard that Asuna's character development goes from: awesome warrior, to damsel in distress. Which disappoints me. |

I hated that arc. I hope it gets a season 2 though because everything else after it sounds like it got better. |
As if .hack and SAO was not enough, you can now get another series that has people getting trapped in an MMO called Log Horizon this fall. To make it stand out, it has a mysterious cat charac... oh wait... we already had that.

Gurren Lagann episode 23:
It was pretty good. I kind of felt a little sorry for Rossiu this episode. I kind of don't get how Simon could forgive Rossiu for doing what he did, but hey Gentarou forgave Ryusei for killing him in Fourze, so who am I to question it? :lol Overall I wasn't much of a fan of this arc. I share the sentiment that others do of "I like Gurren Lagann when it's not trying to be super serious". Episode 24: Suddenly...EVERYONE WAS DEAD!!!!!! Ok, not everyone, but a lot of characters did die. |
Actually just began re-watching Claymore. A very underrated anime in my opinion, it still tops as my #1 favorite anime till date.
|
I watched the OreImo ending a little while ago, and honestly it felt as if it ended in one of the worst ways it possibly could. I wouldn't have minded a Kirino end, even though she's one of my least favorite characters in the show, but them going back to "normal siblings" in the end just bothered me so much. Kyousuke basically broke 4 girls hearts for a temporary relationship. It just bothered me. At least the VN had multiple endings, and I believe someone's translating them through youtube videos, will need to watch those sometime.

Gurren Lagann episode 25.
It was pretty good. Artenbourough still bothers me. How they built up Super Galactic Gurren Lagann was pretty cool. Unfortunately I didn't really get a good look at it. It was pretty cool how Boota was able to use Spiral Power. Kittan also went out like a champ. It kind of bothers me how Kamina died, then the guy who was most similar to him in personality also died. Also, apparently there was a zero percent chance that the plan would work. Did someone not tell Lordgenome that when courageous heart come together, they can turn zero percent into a hundred percent! |

Finished Blassreiter last night. It's...okay. The writing is hit and miss, a completely unnecessary character added into the finale arc that's a complete waste, and there's a lot of unexplained moments in the finale. However, the show kept escalating in a way that made me wonder what was next. There's some cool mecha in the second half that I really wish were the stars rather than the support cast.
Also of note is the animation being done by Gonzo. If you know anything about Gonzo, you know they love to use CGI in animes and it shows. Everyone that can henshin is CGI and it looks awful. However, the mecha I mentioned earlier looks great as CGI. In the end, Blassreiter is just okay and needed more work. |
Episode 9 of Penguindrum was more of a necessary episode than a enjoyable one. This show is all about Himari and yet we barely know a thing about her, so an episode focused on her was exactly what the doctor ordered.
The content of the episode wasn't bad, so much, but I dunno, something always seems to fail to click, I think perhaps due to the cripplingly slow pace but it may also be because the show never seems to pick a tone and stick with it, leaving every aspect of the series feeling half cocked. The episode was absolutely gorgeous though. |
Just started Gundam Wing and its dubbed by these guys called "Ocean". Kniw anything about it?
|
Yeah, most of their dubs suck.

When someone mentioned Blassreiter, I remembered watching it when it first aired, the people subbing it at the time were really unreliable and I gave up in the end. Now I have the whole series, dual audio as well, the dub is okay as far as things go but they still sound pretty robotic and bored as most dubs do.
That CGI though man, fucking AWFUL. It's a real shame as well because all the designs and action are rocking, at least conceptually, and then they are ruined with that CG animation that makes this show look at least fifteen years older than it really is. |
Gundam Wing up to episode 15.
Man, episodes 5 and 10 were real gamechangers for the series so far, I was disappointed that 11-14 pretty much became boring Gundam/Oz politics with the standard Gundam(s) owning all the grunt Mobile suits fight sequence at the end of each episode. This probably has more BS fictional political dialouge then the Star Wars prequels. Its also really annoying when Renna breaks her American accent when saying Herro by emphasizing the R in a very Japanese way. I don't know what the hell the writers are even doing with Renna. I thought she was going to be a peacemaker driving up supports for the Gundams and have to deal with political discrimination. But nope, just a stupid outburst in episode 14. 15 is really interesting with the plot its setting up with the Tallgeese and Zechs but not much else happened other then 003 owning all of the enemy Mobile Suits like usual. |

You are almost to that weird spot with Wing where it slows down for a bit. The Antarctica battle is pretty great but a lot then the show goes through a series of slow downs and quick changes. They all work well enough though. All the political maneuvering early in the show is really essential to why the story is happening in the first place. |
So I dropped Tekka, gonna leave that in the nostalgia vault with a lot of other things. I'm now gonna watch the deciding episode of G-Gundam. If this doesn't impress me, I might need help finding new shows!
And was the episode good? Yes, kinda... You see the problem is, the animation is so insanely dated that a lot of the really badass moments come across as unintentionally goofy and downright hilarious, and I'm pretty sure the one reaction they didn't want was me giggling at it. Master Asia was really cool, I did love his Gundam, but I'm sorry I got real Simon and Kamina vibes from these two, and I love Simon and Kamina way more. Still, the shows age isn't the shows fault, so I feel bad for dropping it for that, especially as everything else was great. So I might stick around until the end of this arc, and take it from there. |
