No PSS, no Draining Kiss Mr Mime, no egg hatching circle, no Day Care Level Up.

Man, this gen kinda sucks.

The plus side is you don't have to worry about your Pokemon forgetting some egg move while at the day care. And if you want passive exp gain there's always the Poke Pelago.

Also I heard they increased the egg appearance rate by something like a factor of three. And the oval and shiny charms are a lot easier to get. So that is something.

But yeah, it's not really the most ideal set up.

Gen 7 is kinda good is some changes and kinda bad
no dresses, EV training's made a bit harder SOS mechanics
finally a different story, different game structure, SOS mechanics

I feel the same. It has some good as well as some bad. I love the new story and quest concept, but it being that you don't have to actually/always fight the captain is kind of a bummer. Plus just having random Pokemon given to you to use for surfing and flying while nice is a bit odd.

I just got spoiled on the final battle with this games antagonist.

OOH! By the way, Mareanie can get a 20% chance of being summoned, this happens when you fish in rippling water. Can you get rippling water with repels? Would be very easy to get a Mareanie with it's hidden ability like that

2 Water types, but eh, I think it's fine. Oricorio has also been reverted to Pom-Pom because the Psychic typing was causing more grief than benefits. Only a few more levels 'til Revelation dance, too. FINALLY.

I don't think repels really affect fishing at all. Fishing as a whole is very different from how it's been in the past, and rippling water is common enough. You may need to soft reset to get what you want out of the ripples, but that's not too horrible.

Though even if you're surfing you don't really need repel. The encounter rate when surfing is frankly absurdly low.


On another subject, yeah. While I'm enjoying Sun a fair bit, mechanically it's like three steps backward, two strides forward and four weird shuffles to the left. There's a lot of cool stuff in the game but just as many questionable or even baffling choices.

Like having 20 out of the 81 new Pokemon be legendary/mythical/whatever. Like, that would be a lot in any Generation, but for one this small it's truly bizarre.

But I like them, so I guess I don't really care. But it certainly is weird.

Well, at least it won't be like XY and we'll basically stop talking about it when the other games of this gen come out. Whatever you think of them, they have personality.

Thought, if there's another remake/sequel in this gen, as some elements of this game suggest, especially the regular references to Kanto, is there a chance of new region exclusives? Especially if it's a sequel, either to this game or just to Red and Blue, with Gen 3 and on Pokémon having new forms when moved to Kanto. Johto is right next to Kanto so chances of Gen 2 Pokémon getting new Kantoan forms is slim to none, but Hoenn and Sinnoh are... MAYBE far enough.

That would be neat, or they could add some new megas to this gen, maybe some new Z-moves.

Another day of not really much progress but a hell of a lot of grinding, putting my Pokemon at level 35 and Decidueye at level 40.

I've been chaining Munchlax for something like three hours. At first I was only doing it to find a Snorlax because I was bored, but I found and killed one a while ago because it took so long and been such a pain in the ass I am now too stubborn to walk away without getting the shiny.

But, three god damn hours. And these Munchlaxes barely even call for help, and most of the time when they do nothing comes. Plus they all have Leftovers so I have to keep wasting PP on False Swipe to keep them low.

I have so many regrets and there's no end in sight.

Recenly got a Haunter. I really want to trade it with one of your guys so I can get Gengar; yes I know it has Cursed Body but I still want one.

GTS shenanigans snagged me three of the Ultra Beasts (spoiler tag just in case, don't know how secret it is that they're catchable anymore).

Got Pheromosa and Celesteela, so that's pleasantly the version exclusives out of the way. I also got a Kartana but since I didn't need it I traded it for a Type: Null. I'm gonna be needing a lot of those...


It's gonna be funny having the rest of the characters spend the rest of the story talking about the mystery of the Ultra Beasts when I have two of them in my PC. I haven't even cleared my fifth trial...

It just occured to me that getting the version exclusive UB's is gonna be such a pain.

Not really. You get 2 of one and 4 of the other. Trading will be very easy.

Plus those you get 4 of aren't valued very highly so you can get them off the GTS fairly easily for non-legendaries. I got Pheromosa and Kartana for Passimian and Oranguru.

There's somebody that will trade you one in a Pokemon Center somewhere before then. Can't remember exactly where or what for but he exists.

But then I couldn't call it Kurri, so no way in hell am I doing that

Yeah, it's saying something when the only real complaint I have with them is I wish you encountered them MORE...

Maybe it's just me, but I felt like the main plot was kind of short... not painfully so, but I still feel like I'm waiting for the next point. I like the plot, I just feel like there's something missing... maybe if they had integrated the UB missions into the main story-line rather than shunting them to the post-game... then again, overloading the player with legendary level Pokémon before the league might not be the best idea...

Ah, well, if my biggest criticism of a game is "I want just a little bit more of... everything" than it can't be called a BAD game. Sure, the loss of the convenience features Gen 6 introduced is painful/annoying, but, eh, I'll live. I just hope the Search Dex and PSS don't end up like HGSS's Pokémon following you... Seriously, the Rotomdex is such a letdown. Inferior in almost every way aside from the patch pinpointing.
