Guys, it isn't confirmed Jenna is leaving the show just yet. The media is in a flurry that she is, Capaldi is denying it and Jenna is just sitting there amused by the whole thing.
The episode itself was excellent. I really like the new introduction sequence and theme (so glad they didn't use the Rassilon symbols from the fan version, because that's the one aspect I really didn't like from it). Calling out Clara on all her flaws has humanised her a lot from her rather rocky entrance to the show, and it sent out a very good message to all the shallow fans watching the series as well. It was great seeing the Paternoster Gang again (although the "LOOK WE'RE MARRIED AND LESBIANS" reminder every 30 seconds was RTD levels of shoehorned), and I liked that it had a greater focus on Vastra and Jenny rather than Strax. As much as I like Strax he was really beginning to ruin the Sontarans for me. The clockword droids were also about a billion times better than they were in The Girl in the Fireplace. They gave off a very Phillip Hinchcliffe vibe which worked well with Capaldi's Doctor. And Capaldi himself, well he was just fantastic. He has the presence and authority of the old Doctors but still that childish glee and energy of the newer ones. It's the perfect mix for the new series format. I love him already and can't wait for more. Matt's cameo was great too. Not just because it tied everything together nicely but also because it gave him a proper exit that related to Clara and didn't pin on a fanservicy Amy pond cameo. Quote:

Oh god that new theme......
I'm going to be honest, the season premier had crept up on me. I had just gotten home from seeing Let's Be Cops (hilarious movie by the way), so I turned on the TV and BOOM!! Doctor Who premier in 2 hours. And what a premier it was. I enjoyed it once it started to get moving. But oh god that new theme song..... I love the new opening, with all the clock gears and the time motif, but the music is just downright awful for a Doctor Who theme.... Maybe that's just because I'm used to something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WCD_Aw9RXxU |
I felt the theme was very reminiscent of Classic Doctor Who themes, before the New Series. Back when they used strange electronic synthesizers instead of the more orchestral ones nowadays. I like it.

To be fair, I've heard people say the full mix on BBC HD sounded better than the stereo mix on BBC One, though I haven't seen the HD version yet to compare. |
Oh yeah, there's definitely reason to doubt it. I was just pointing out it's not a sure thing yet like everyone thinks :lol

nothing can describe this. I think something in my head snapped. too bad its not an actual game, cause I would play it for the absurdity of it.

I enjoyed the episode mainly because Jenny, Vastra, and Strax are my favorite characters and I love every episode they are in, lol. I loved Vastra and Clara's conversation that was fantastic. The 12th Doctor I didn't like till the end, he has this intensity to him that's good but it makes him better at the serious stuff than the funny parts. Eleven had both the silly side and the intensity to him better. Well still these are just first thoughts, I think he should be pretty fun.
So is it just rumored that Jenna is leaving? and not actually confirmed because that might actually just make my day. lol |
I read it was true. It better be true, the longer we have to suffer her presents the more I am about ready to just give up on the show.

Review: Deep Breath
I'd give this an 8/10. It was good, with a creepy villain, fun side characters (including Clara, for once :) ) and the new Doctor. But there were problems. Mostly with the writing. It felt like Moffat was writing for Sherlock through this show, especially with the Paternoster gang- you know, just in case you forget that they are supposed to be Sherlock Holmes... parodies... something. Also, he can't stop referencing his own damned stories. One or two small links- good. All over the damned episode: Too much Moffat. Too much. And the Matt Smith scene. It bugs me because the whole episode has meant to be testing us with this new Doctor, constantly making us think that he might be different and just as we accept him, Eleven shows up and makes us remember what he used to be like. He reinforces himself as the hero, even when he isn't in it. That's no offence to Matt, but I think it would have been better at the beginning of the episode, when Capaldi's gone on the run. It would have worked with Capaldi, rather than undermining him. That being said, I really enjoyed the side characters, even if their personalities felt a bit over the top and they were there purely for padding. Clara, now that she is being played as a person rather than a mystery, is actually quite engaging, although she still doesn't come close to Donna or Martha as a companion. The theme song sounds good, and the visuals, while different, I like. I'm just a fan of clockwork, I guess. And while I dislike the idea of heaven in Doctor Who, I doubt it's actual heaven. Moffatt would have to hate the fandom to put that in. So, next week... Daleks! Wooh! |

Hell yeah doctor is amazing! Twelve is more eccentric then I thought he'd be.

There's an internet meme that I saw that sums up the scene in the Escape-Balloon where the Clockwork Man 'falls' to his death. (I'm going to get the exact quote wrong, I know)
Ten - I'm not innocent. I've taken lives before. But then I became clever. I talked people into taking their own. And I think that's what happened. The Doctor got clever and talked him into taking his own life. |
I am so excited for tomorrow (for Europe and the Americas, today). I've always loved Dalek episodes and the reviews for this one have been very good.
|
Ugh. I don't know if it's just the BBC One version, but the audio mix is really screwy this episode. The SFX are deafening compared to the relatively quiet voices.
|
I don't think that'll go down as one of the all-time great Dalek stories, but that was certainly one of the better modern ones. Dalek is still miles ahead but this my just edge out my next favourite (Parting of the Ways).
It was nice to have a Dalek story where there was no grand plot for them other than "go in and kill things", and the whole "there is no such thing as a good Dalek" ending was handled especially well. Particularly with how it brought the Doctor into it. That "comrade Dalek" line didn't sit with me well for varying reasons, much like how it didn't when I read the script a month or so ago. The Doctor continues to be unsettlingly short with people, which makes for a really nice change of pace at the moment. His relationship with Clara has also vastly improved, with this episode again providing some really great moments. Not sure what I make of Mr Pink just yet though. His backstory is an overused one in television, but while its still relevant in today's society I guess it deserves its place. Guess I'll just have to see how it pans out. So yeah, approval from me :lol |
I liked it. We got to see some of that "darker" Doctor that we were promised and the whole romp through the Dalek was fun, even if I kept thinking about The Invisible Enemy (this episode looked better, but loses points for having less Leela). Between that and last week's references to The Girl in the Fireplace, I wonder if we'll be getting any more loose callbacks to older episodes.
Interesting debut for Danny Pink; I wonder if there's anything in the similar color-themed last name and former profession with the guest star this week. Could be just a coincidence, but I can't help but wonder if he's in some way a time-displaced deserter. I don't think he's the Master. Not unless something really effed up happened to him. Speaking of possible effed up Masters: did not expect this week's Missy scene. I'm really, really curious to see what her deal is. In any case, Capaldi continues to impress, although I have a little trouble understanding him when he talks really fast. |
Very much enjoyed this Dalek episode, and definitely the best one of Moffat's run, and might even be my favourite of the New Series.
|
Okay, this episode was by far the best one I have seen in a long time. It actually gave me a vibe from the Eccleston episode. I really enjoyed it and I thought Clara was actually good in this episode. I hope the rest of the season goes like this.
|
Well that was good. It still wasn't as good as Dalek (imo), but it was dark and enjoyable. The ending was good as well, even if we have seen good daleks before (kind of in Evil of the Daleks, Caan in Journey's End). The Daleks actually seemed threatening again, with no other goal than kill them all, and Danny seems like a good character. Even if Moffat can't write an unadorkable male companion to save his life. The Doctor was back to his usual, dark form, especially in his hatred of the Daleks, and Clara, while having little to do (again), she continues make me like her slightly more, maybe because she contrasts with the new Doctor so much. I'd give this 7.5/10.
So, next week- robots! Also, are those classic Daleks 3.5 or 5 inch? Because I may start collecting 3.5" if those are in it. |
I honestly, truly, felt horrible when Rusty found the Doctor's hatred and started murdering Daleks. But they also kind of gave away what happened in their promo for the new series. "Divinity, Beauty.. HAAATRED!" Was in that electric promo where we couldn't figure out if it was a Dalek or Davros. I also felt horrible when he turned Journey away there at the end.
I very much though love this Doctor. "Yes, she's my carer. She cares so I don't have to." That statement, right there, that bit of sass sums up exactly what I was hoping 13 would be. "Is Ross in here?!" "I think he might be in the top layer if you want to say a few words." Now to figure out what in the name of holy hell Missy is. She saved the Clockwork from London and brought it to 'Heaven', and then saved the Soldier who's name I forget. I still think she's either The Master reborn or some sort of sadistic Tardis. Still waiting patiently for my Sherlock/Doctor Who episode. Just find some way to add Supernatural. SUPERWHOLOCKIANS UNITE! |

It's revealed in a new poster!
Missy is... The Master! In the new poster "I have waited a very long time for this moment, Doctor." Missy can be seen beside 13 with a TARDIS made to look like an old british phone booth. |

1) Do you have a source for this poster that isn't tumblr (unless its the official DW tumblr)? That's the only place I'm seeing it and I have a very hard time believing the BBC are advertising the finale when its 9-10 weeks away. 2) It doesn't really reveal anything. Even if it is a TARDIS she could be the Rani, another established Time Lord or even a brand new Time Lord. Hell she doesn't even technically have to be a Time Lord to have a TARDIS I guess. 3) Those phone booths aren't actually that old, there's still quite a lot around. :lol |

If that's a photoshopped poster though, it's a bloody good one. |

Well... I was not expecting this. Especially since it's only linking to Ebay. Can anyone see what that QR code is, because I have nothing that can read them? |
The QR code seems to link to a commercial for the Character Building Dalek spaceship on YouTube.

That was my favourite actual-season (so discounting Day of the Doctor) episode in YEARS. Wonderfully campy and a huge amount of fun. I knew Gatiss wouldn't let me down!
