So I just checked out the opening two parter for SPD for like the 100th time in two years, I certainly enjoyed it a lot more this time around, it gets really dark in places and doesn't seem to rely on the sentai too heavily. Although the pacing was kinda off and their morph is kinda weird, with them blocking their faces with their arms and stuff.

I really enjoyed SPD. |
SPD is definitely underrated. There were a few too many issues with it that stopped me from REALLY enjoying it, but I certainly believe it doesn't deserve the scorn it often gets.

It does a pretty great job at convincing us that this future, and SPD are real, at least better than when Power Rangers tried this in the past. I also like the unconventional use of zords and the chemistry between the team.
One complaint - more a missed opportunity - is it seems odd in a franchise with alien and robot rangers that in the series that opens with something like 'this is the future where humans and aliens live together, bad aliens are the reason SPD exists'. And yet this is the team with a core, human team... I think Z and Jack should have been aliens and Jack and Sky's tension should be built around the fact that he thinks it should be a human leading the team. |
I've been watching In Space this week as that was the last series I watched as a kid and after that I didn't really pay much attention. I caught a few episodes of Lightspeed and Lost Galaxy but I had moved on at that point. Did catch some of Ninja Storm and Dino Thunder and enjoyed what I saw so I think I will watch those next since they are all on Netflix.
I have a question about Lightspeed. I watched the first few episodes the other day and I think it was the first show where the Rangers aren't chosen by fate or some mythical force, right? If Lightspeed had the tech to make rangers/zords and they knew a threat was coming how come they waited you until there was an attack to grab the people they wanted? They picked people for odd reasons like being a rock climber, fire fighter, pilot, the bosses daughter, but didn't think these people should be trained beforehand? Seems odd for an organization like that. When Zordon says to get him some healthy teenagers with "attitude" it's an unexpected emergency and him and Alpha have just been chilling in the power chamber for who knows how long. It's really a complaint or anything but the set up just seems weird. Yes yes, I know I am talking about a Power Rangers show. |
Yeah. For Lightspeed, it really was odd for this huge organization with hundreds of staff on hand to pick people outside said organization.

I mean, even Lightspeed Pink had no idea she was going to be a ranger and no training for it. She was like an office manager or something it looks like.
