And I'm now done with all of the subbed episodes. |

So while I haven't gotten that far yet (I'm still on episode 5), I saw an opening for the later episodes of Dairanger. And I have just one question...
is White Ranger a kid? |

Yeah don't let his first appearance fool you, Kou is an excellent character.
|
Ah alright. I haven't gotten there yet. I just found it weird seeing a tiny White Ranger in a later opening, as well as one of his first changes. It made me think "Good lord not PR Turbo again!" hahaha.

Finally got around to catching up on Go-Busters (again; something about this show makes it easy for me to fall off of weekly viewings). The last few episodes were really good. Enter has pretty much catapulted himself to being one of the all-time great Sentai villains. The stuff with Escape was good, too; her story took a very dark and tragic turn. I'm almost starting to think I might miss this show when it's all over.

Abaranger episode 3:
It was pretty good. I like the combination sequence (and how it's not fast forwarded like in Dino Thunder). I wish Skewed Studios had more than just up to episode 10 subbed, because they're about on par with TV-Nihon. What is up with that girl? First she has glowing green eyes and talking in a weird voice, then her eyes go normal and she's all like "yay monsters!" Speaking of monsters...what the heck? A lion...explosives...and a dandelion? I...I don't know. Ryouga had some good moments the parts when Tyranno sent him flying and when he was on the huge ball were pretty funny. AbareBlue (I forgot his name)...at first he was like "no, forget you guys. I don't want to be a part of his", then he's like "well...I don't have a choice". It does seem a bit too quick to have him be like "ok, I'm staying" but he's not saying "yeah! Abarangers forever!" So I guess it's alright. To me, the characers seem more interesting than Dino Thunder. Dino Thunder had 3 teenager stereotypes: the nerd, the girls who's in a band, and the jock. Whereas here we have: an dude who adopted his niece, a chiropractor, and a delivery girl? I do like how wacky Ryouga is though. |
Rije (the girl) is the host body for the Evolrians' god Dezumodoria.

Just got down to watching Gaoranger for the first time. Caught episodes 1 and 2 and my thoughts so far are pretty positive. This show is shaping up to be a pretty interesting watch so far. Crazy stuff but I like that it's not pulling punches. I think I'll enjoy this show a lot. Especially since I stumbled across subs of Gaoranger VS Super Sentai :)
|
Well my Gokaiger DVD finally came, so I popped that sucker right in and I'm already up to episode 7. And I loveeeeeeeeee it. Luka is definitely my favorite character next to Doc. And I think I already have a favorite villain, that espionage guy who blasted off again :lol.
|
So I just caught another 2 episodes of Gaoranger. I'm already pretty annoyed by Black & Blue being sort of generic. Red and Yellow are both pretty cool though. White seems like your typical female character so no complaints there. The thing that's bothered me so far though is that they don't have actual names. They just call each other by their colors. To me that really kills the team dynamic, no one acknowledges any one else as a person, only as a warrior. Blue mentions his real name for almost no reason in the middle of Quest 4 but that's it. I don't hate the concept, it just seems really odd to me.
That problem aside I'm finding that I really like the action sequences and the villains actually have really great designs. Yabaibas voice needs a little work but I get serious Bandora vibes from Tsuetsue which is not a bad thing. I think I'm gonna have fun marathoning Gaoranger. And buying every mecha from it :lol |
Oh great, this is going to be fun. My girlfriend just accidentally reformatted our external hard drive and I lost every Sentai, Rider, and every other subbed Toku show I had. Ten years worth of files gone in an instant.
Not to mention all of my photos, songs, files from school, etc. |

Are you gonna try to get them all back or just work on the ones you haven't watched yet? |

How does one accidentally reformat a harddrive?

Anyway, I watched the first volume of Gokaiger tonight. It took me about two episodes to get back into it as this is the first time I watching it since it ended, and the first time I am watching it raw in about 18 months. Plus, I had to get used to my new TV's display of it in 1080P. Once I got through all of those barriers, I enjoyed every second of it. However, I forgot how slow the first several episodes are. |
Decided to start my first Sentai series tonight....
Akibaranger has to be one of the funniest things I have watched in quite some time. I may not be super familiar with Sentai, at least as far as specifics go, but I know my share of tropes, plus I've seen a good chunk of the different Power Rangers shows, and I think being a Kamen Rider fan will help appreciate the humor as well. Also I am absolutely in love with Akiba Yellow. |
Kakuranger 10 is subbed and out. It's predictably crazy. I'm not sure what part amused me more, Sasuke disguised as a baby or the idea that Japanese hospitals have some kind of test that can detect the absence of a person's soul.
|
Kakuranger 10. It had it's moments. The baby cosplay was just silly. The yokai is f**king creepy when it's was a puppet. Shame that didn't last longer. The Kakuranger Ball is just dumb, but I knew about that going in. Hope it's not overused.
Next Week: When pants attack! Starring Narutaki. |
Up to episode thirty four of Gokaiger. I love all of the main characters, but Zeaphoulous (SP? The red and white guy) has to be my favorite character introduced in the show. He's just hilarious.
Also, it was beyond awesome to see Satarakura again. |
Up to episode 6 of Akibaranger. Seriously this show...I love this show.
|
Well I watched the next two volumes of Gokaiger. I absolutely love the CarRanger episode. It is by far one of my favorite episodes of the series, if not my favorite.
Well, I'm now at the part where I need to watch 199 Heroes before I can continue on. |
Just watched Kaku 10.
First, dolls are creepy. Second, the Kakure Ball was dumb. Third, seriously, dolls are freaking creepy. Anyway, I found it hilarious when Sasuke had to dress like a baby. Also, hospitals in Japan: "We don't know what could possibly be wrong with him. So the only explanation is that their soul was stolen." |

Just caught another few Gaoranger Quests. This show continues to intrigue me. The episode with Gao Giraffe was actually pretty brilliant. Since Ship Org appeared at sea and the primary focus was on Blue helping a boy retrieve a letter in a bottle I was a bit confused. But then the construction crane, which the boy had been previously operating, began acting on it's own and turned out to be Gao Giraffe. That was completely unexpected but in a good way. And it's such an epic power up. I mean it just punching a giant hole through the middle of the bad guy :lol
|
Yay, I now hae all of my Sentai files back. Now it is the Kamen Rider files. However, it is going to be a pain in the ass redownloading all of Black since I have to do each episode at a time.
BTW, I was checking them out and holy ****. Nihon's encoding for Deka-Go-On is down right atrocious. The video is so blurry and pixelated. |

Well, I just finished up Gokaiger. And I have to say that I enjoyed it a whole hell of a lot. I do remember IIRC Matrixbeast saying that he didn't like it due to the lack of character development, especially for Joe and Luka.
Well, I agree that it was only mentioned sparely, but I wouldn't say that they had no character development. My personal con with the show was that I think it didn't quite do as much as it could with it's villains and story in general. I found the villains to be good, but I never really felt like they were that big of threat. It wasn't really till the end when they started to gain lead over the Gokaigers, when with all of the power each one had, you would think they would've been able to beat them down even more and earlier on. Hell, Basco was their greatest threat just due to him being able to summon previous rangers. As for the story, I would've enjoyed seeing them travel around more. I know that it was only really shot in Japan, and that it would be expensive to have them travel to different countries and pay off to film there, but it would've been a nice touch. Also, another small con I had was the lack of seeing some of the ultimate powers. I really didn't like the way the Geki one got barely used, and how it worked with Gokai-Oh. Plus, I wanted to see the Gokai-Oh Megaranger power. All in all, it was a great series. It had very little cons to me, which was obviously due to all of the pros it had. I was able to blow through it within sick days, and I could easily pop the discs in and do it anytime, as it's pretty easy to get hooked into it. I'd give Gokaiger a 5/5. |
SO I just watched 199 Heroes. I absolutely love this movie. That is all I am going to say.
XW1n, to be honest, I don't think there is a single Sentai show where every single ranger gets top notch development. It's usually only half of the team that gets the major development while the rest get bits, if that. No matter how you slice it, it really is The Red Ranger and His Servants every time whether red is the leader or not. I do agree that the Zangyack Empire seemed pretty lackluster as far as villains go. I loved their designs, but they could have easily made Warz Gil a Sincline/Lotor type character. His father, the emperor, was absolutely useless. He did nothing at all. Honestly, outside of Basco and Barizorg, the villains were nobodies. This show was definitely about the fanservice with the rangers, and I'm okay with that. They made it work. |
