Oh, I have nothing against the new Star Trek films. I liked them both a lot; probably the best Star Trek media we've gotten since DS9 ended (:().

A lot of die hard Trekkies are really upset about what they perceive as a "dumbing down" of Star Trek into big, mindless action flicks instead of thought-provoking character drama. Orci seems to get most of the blame for this, something that he didn't help by going into an expletive-laden rant in response to a critical blog post.

I think I'm being realistic. One can bury his head in the sand and hope for the best, despite overwhelming evidence that the project is doomed to, at best, mediocrity. It's just... given my feelings about the fucktard who's spearheading it, it's hard for me to give this movie the benefit of the doubt.

And those TV shows you mention? Orci and Kurtzman aren't involved in the storytelling, at least not on a daily basis. Their names were attached to each of those show's pilots as producers... so other creators could get their series picked up in a system that favors those with previous credits, regardless of quality. It's standard operating procedure in the TV biz.

Make no mistake: The assembly of 5-12 writers on each of those TV writing staffs were responsible for those shows being good-- in spite of Bob Orci's tangential involvement.

I don't think any of your comments have been realistic quite honestly. The guy is going to be an exec producer, not a writer, and NOBODY on that production is going to let one man derail it all. And what does him being a but have to do with anything? He still gets tons of work!!!

Will it suck? Probably.

Will butthurt fanboys go insane criticising the film? Definitely.

I hope we can agree on one point, as long as Damon Lindeloff isn't involved there is hope. If he in any way goes near that script I'm out immediately.

As much as I want to give it the benefit of the doubt a part of me says I would rather be better off watching a live action Turbo Teen written produced and directed by Joss Whedon.

as long as Michael Bay stays out of the picture as director I think this has real promise!
