So, those leaks were correct then, which means...
Captain Marvelous mini series Ryuusouger starts in March Ryuusouger will be the last Sentai if it doesn't perform to at least ToQger levels. I like the designs but they look very, very safe. There's hints of older Sentai everywhere. Dekaranger, Kyoryuger, Abaranger, Gekiranger, Gokaiger. Probably more I'm missing. This is really going to be the safest attempt at a success Bandai's ever done with Sentai and that's a shame. With Jetman they tried a brand new theme, Kyoryuger was the total opposite of Go-Busters, and now we've got...something that just feels so coordinated that it feels like a mess. Quote:
Also it's Bandai that decides the themes, not Toei. |
Cool! Looks fun!
Kind glad dragons are pushed back for now. Those concepts were definitely not ready to go forward yet. But the new locking system is a definite plus, and going to lead to some interesting toys. And some very curious potential on the extra ranger later. Not too surprising they went dinosaurs either with the Hasbro purchase. That's usually the go to "new era" start over theme. |
Mecha looks pretty cool but otherwise it’s one big meh from me. I’ll give it a shot, but honestly as long as they keep making the Space Squad movies that’s all the Super Sentai I’ll need.

I'm pretty confident Hasbro was not involved in this decision; Toei just cares about their own sales.

Kind of curious on the measurements of the new locking system.

Bandai Japan is the one that cares about domestic sales. Toei cares about licensing. Two different things. Toei does care about Hasbro because abroad licensing is money in their pocket. The system is a little more complicated than what you seem to think it is. Revenue sources are a more scattered thing per area. Toei makes bank off of the various abroad markets too. That's why they global outreach their properties. Won't be the last Sentai either. Though they may take a break for a year depending on factors. But they're still prepping other material for later. I think people need to cool their jets a bit on overreactions. Lets wait and see how the material does. This was the last batch of other material. Newer material is still on the way after it. But certain outlets and areas did need the design rest for a bit for other things to get restructured first. With literally the 50th of sentai around the corner, the 30th for Zyu, let's not start this entire "The sky is falling, the sky is falling, everything sucks!" shtick. It's not healthy. |
I'm always on board for whatever the new Sentai is. This one is no exception. I would have loved dragons instead of dinosaurs, the zords don't really stand out to me, but the suits are alright. My favorite part of this is the helmets. They're really cool at first glance. Crossing my fingers a bit that Power Rangers doesn't adapt this one right away.

This is...awkward!
I hate to see Toei and Bandai struggling like this! I'll admit, there are some good ideas with the designs, but this feels uncertain. It's clear that they are banking on a tried-and-true theme to pull themselves out of the fire, but this feels like a "make-it-good-or-take-the-money-and-make-a-break-for-goodness-sake" kinda move! It's too high a gamble to assume that a successful theme will pull them out of the fire! The idea that Sentai could just...END is a little frightening!!! This needs support even if it's just a flaming turd! Who cares? Love it enough so they can find themselves again! If this bombs, what happens? Total erasure of the franchise? Toei breaks with Bandai and goes to Takara for designs and ideas? Toei and Bandai stop coming-up with ideas and wait for Hasbro to do something ingenious with P.R. and wait to port that over instead, thereby reversing over 25 years of standard practice!?!? |
Is it just me or does the Triceratops zord here look like the from the Power Rangers movie.
|
I think you people have your worries reversed. Either this show really goes against the mold and surprise us, but also causes Sentai to go on a break for a bit. Or it sticks to as tried-and-true to formula as possible to make an unremarkable show, but ensuring that Sentai keeps going on.
It's my own selfishness that wishes for the former, as someone who really enjoyed the ambitions that Kyuranger and LuPat had, despite the flaws both those shows have. Wouldn't it just be more exciting or cooler in the long run to see how Sentai would come back after being quiet for a while, like the the beginning of Heisei Riders or New Generation Ultraman? Well, it's just a fantasy in my head for now. |
Wow. I hope to god Hasbro gets to exert some influence, sooner rather than later. Super Sentai desperately needs some new ideas.
