It is not based on a canceled Transformers series; its origins are however tied to Transformers. After that Takara sought out a partnership with Sunrise to develop a new franchise to market toys with, that was what would become Brave. It still features transforming robots but is not related to Transformers directly, although since Takara owned the rights they did remold and/or repaint a few Transformers toys and sold them under the Brave banner.

I have only seen two Brave shows; they are pretty good but ultimately a bit more on the generic side. But when you crave for some 90’s super robot anime this hits the spot.

Also, Teknoman Saber is voiced by Bulk from MMPR, and that's just amazing.
