I really liked the first episode for it's structure.
It baits you in by showing the typical goody-two shoes everyman Tanaka Taro getting involved in the supernatural and brings the assorted set of personalities, the first casualty, the love interest, the bad dude, and the cool dude and then it pulls the rug by showing that he isbthe secondary character. The cool dude is the main character. Also, the cool dude might have wished for the game to continue. Also side note, the purple Bull Kamen Rider's suit reminds me of Chaos Space Marines from Warhammer 40k. Skull with horn helmet? Check. Spikes on armor? Check. Chainsaw for a sword? Check. Lightning Claws on the other hand? Check. I like the bad dude already. |
A real nice first look at our four main characters and really good set up for the DGP and what Ace's motivation is. The action was what I expect for an episode 1 which is is still real good and Geats main weapon being just a gun I think is a first for a main rider I believe and doing stuff with a bike is a novel concept for Rider. R.I.P. Shiro but 3rd place is not bad and with the world being reset at the end we might see him again (maybe no as a rider tho) which it did seem like he had a bit more to show of his character. Tycoon being our POV make me think he might be the proper secondary rider as the series goes on but it is only episode on and Buffa only got to do so much.
Revice fell off for me cause the main villain was boring and the character arcs felt paced weird so hopefully our Riders being rivals might help fix that for the first half since it looks like the DGP might be 6 months again but that is getting ahead of things and right now Geats feels a refreshing with a main character that has a bit more mystery and might not be 100% a good guy because we don't know his motivation is yet unlike well most main riders. Here's to a good Season :) |
All Takeshi had to do was dodge the tentacle…

A very fun, action-packed episode, unusual in how it's a prologue to the main game. We don't drop into the start of a game, or add new players to a pre-existing round, Ace wins in episode one. Sure, this definitely seems like a Kagaami situation, where Kaiyo will be our POV at least to start, but it's still bold. Difficult to say anything about character so far for anyone but him, as Ace's motivations and own desires are as mysterious as whoever's running this game (although knowing Takahashi, it'll probably be a CEO parody), so looking forwards to seeing exactly how everyone's morality intertwines with winning the game vs saving lives.
Also Geats and Buffa look cool but Panda-Rider is literally just a Panda mask someone give that firefighter guy enough Fortnite gacha pulls to get an A tier buckle. |
Just Saw it with Subs. Have to say great Start. I'm thinking Ace has to keep playing the game to insure his World remains.

Kabuto, another series with a cool ace main rider, basically had it's story revolve around Kagami, the more blundering secondary rider, until the final quarter. |
I'm thinking the point where we'd normally get a secondary rider introduction, we'll instead get Kamen Rider Tycoon's and Kamen Rider Naago's unique gear. Looking at the group shot of the "Blank" forms you'll notice only our four "Main" riders have accents to their suits, which to m means all four will have signature gear sooner or later.

Good opening to the new season. I liked the focus being on Keiwa instead of on Ace. It reminded me of what Donbrothers has been doing with Haruka being more of the POV character there. It also reminded me of Kabuto, as did Ace's whole attitude. I'll be curious to see if the show can pull that off well; characters like this can be either really enjoyable or completely insufferable (aka the Tendou/Tsukasa divide) and it's way too early to tell where this will end up.
Really liked the action scene. I loved Geats's armor from the first time I saw it and it looks even better in action. We even got some stuff with the bike, which was nice to see before Toei inevitably packs it up in storage for the rest of the series. Obviously still have a lot to learn about the story, but I'm especially curious to see what's up with Keiwa's girlfriend seemingly no longer existing. It looked like he remembered the big battle, but I don't know if that means he's aware that she's not around anymore or not. Quote:

Seems like Excite Subs is in business again, they said they'll enter the "Grand Prix". No date yet as they need time to get back into the game.
I'm happy, they did fantastic work on Ex-Aid IMO. |
Fantastic start to a season I've really been anticipating. I haven't kept up weekly since Gaim, which also was the last time I watched a season start to finish so I really want to keep up with Geats. It's doing everything right so far from excellent suit designs to a good premise (very Ryuki-esque), interesting characters and an intriguing story.
