I'm probably not going to do full notes for Spy Troops, but I do want to talk about the format experiment I did with it. This was an experiment to see if I could get onto a weekly schedule and also try to get ahead instead dropping a comic all at once whenever it was done. It was also to get myself back into simpler story telling after finally finishing that TAOWAR arc last year.

I think that all of these little experiments have gone well and I plan to continue this new format for now. The only hiccups so far is when I'm in the middle of a different comic and have a short one that I just want to post right that moment. I think resolving it as surprise comics now and then was the best option, at least for now.

So, what's next? Starting new week will be #44 The Grail. This is the last unfinished comic that I didn't get around to last year. I've had all the pictures for years, but like a fool I didn't write a script for it, so it's going to be an odd 8 pages with an ad libbed script.

I realized it's Valentines Day today just like yesterday and didn't have a comic for it. Oh well, instead we're starting an 8 page story today. This will be an odd one. It's the only comic I've made that has every toy is just as sentient toys. This comic comes from back when And Then They Fight was still completely random. It also features only toys I had bought at LexCon 2016. Anyways, enjoy.

Story time because I want to be that guy that talks about finding my grail for way longer than I should knowing it's probably not that interesting. If you don't care, skip to below the line for me rambling about the future of the comic instead.

This comic came about when I got back from LexCon 2016. The Tako Tank had been my grail since Botcon 2006 when I decided I wanted every mold made for Beast Wars, even the wacky stuff. Especially the wacky stuff. After getting pretty much all the US and Neo stuff, the BWII stuff was proving difficult. When prioritizing what I wanted most, the Tako Tank quickly went to the top of my list. It was interesting and unless the Niagara Base, looked like it interacted better with the other toys.

Fast forward to 2016, when I was doing well (at the time, at least) and not sure what I was going to buy at that year's LexCon. I was hanging out at the Captured Prey (CP) booth, having just bought an Astro Megazord from them (came back for the Shockwave and Nightbird used in the comic later), when one of the booth workers returns with a Niagara Base in their arms. My first question to them was where they found that and is there more. He answered that there were no more Niagara Bases, which was fine, but there was a Tako Tank, which was even better.

I'm very thankful for the people working the CP booth that night because not only did they alert me to a Tako Tank, one of them was kind enough to lead me to the booth. Now if you were ever at a Botcon, the dealers room is about the same size most years and Botcon 2006 was in the exact same room that CP's booth was in at LexCon that year. That dealer room was LexCon's secondary dealers room on the 3rd floor. The main dealer room was on the 1st floor and is at least 3 times bigger. It's also about 5 times more crowded.

So they lead me to the booth. I had pass this booth at some point noticing only that they had a case of Transformer prototypes, something I'm not into collecting, but fun to look at. They had the Tako Tank pretty far behind the counter blocked from my view. Mint in box, something I don't care that much about, but in a case like this, it means it's 100% complete. After discussing the price and me rushing back to my hotel room for more money, I got my Tako Tank. I did ask the seller where he got it in such good shape. He said he bought it from a former Kenner employee that was clearing out all his work related toys, including some of the prototypes. Do I believe him? I don't know, but for the purposes of this story I do.

Anyways, that's how I got my Tako Tank, my grail of 10 years. Hope I didn't bore you. Now let's talk about what's next for ATTF.

And Then They Fight 45-49 will be gag strips. 47 was already posted (the Super Bowl one). 48 is special, but I'm not saying how. After that, ATTF 50 will be a return to the TAOWAR storyline. Few notes about that.

I'm reducing "T.A.O.W.A.R.: The Adventures of W. and Raider" to just "TAOWAR." I thought about dropping it completely, but it notes that it's part of a storyline for easier reading, similar to The Grail or Spy Troops (which I do plan to continue).

This will be the Land of Summons story I've always wanted to get around to, but never could. Aside from being a continuation of the TAOWAR storyline, this will be a mostly shelf contained story meant to tie up loose ends and have some fun in the Land of Summons aka TÃ*r na nÓg.

Main cast is a much smaller group this time. There's still plenty of new and old faces to see though. Also, I originally had an entire comic planned before this point where Blade recruits everyone and they get a space ship. My goal was to make things more simple and that created needing a lot of new sets that I didn't have. I dropped all of that and just used Gates again as a teleporter.

So, slight change of plans. Starting next week, two pages a week. Why the change? I've been thinking about doing this for awhile and now seems like a good time. Part of it is that I think this story is better paced for two pages a week and part of it was me getting far enough ahead in story comics that I felt comfortable doing so.

In an earlier scripted Claw Jaw was the guide character at the beginning. That role ended up going to Nega-Gnome. Brought in Claw Jaw here because I saw a place to bring him into the story for the things I wanted to do with him.

Cliffhanger! You all probably saw this coming, but this is a multiparter. The rest of the story is already completed. The next part will be 27 pages long (not including cover or recap) and will be posted 2 pages a week like the first part.

I mentioned that I suddenly added a page earlier in the week. Originally page 13 was the first panel of the current page 13 and the last panel of the current page 14. I added the extra page because I realized I glossed over some minor things I shouldn't have and this was the best place to fix it.

The story will continue in August in ATTF #55 TAOWAR: War For TÃ*r na nÓg Siege. In the meantime, July will be a month of one off random silliness. It's going to be a fun time.

I finally finished Kamen Rider Ryuki this year on my 3rd attempt. Seeing as it was the 3rd attempt, you might guessed I'm not big on the show. I enjoyed things about it, but as a whole it just doesn't work for me. Ouji is cool. Anyways, I just wanted to poke some fun at it. I might make a comic of my grievances with this show if I can ever find a punchline for it.

All of Blade's past summons appear in this comic except 2. Shortround is actually there, but got cropped out. He's on the top level of the castle. Seaspray isn't present for reasons.

Why yes, the first thing I did with Weaponizers was attempt a battle wheelchair. Because I had no ideas for a name and it was a hodgepodge to begin with, I just made up a file name that reflects some of my nonsensical file names.

Back in the old TAOWAR comics Empp would cast spells in Latin through a Predacon font. Now it's English instead of Latin, but I believe it's the same font (the Pred font on the TFWiki). Hoping the visuals are 3nough to guess what the spells are.
