So, I just finished W. I think I need to change my favorite toku moment to the entirety of the "Hyper Battle" DVD. The Donburi dopant was great, and the Iron Chef commentary cracked me up.
W, the first Kamen Rider I watched, was great all around. |

I haven't posted here in a good while, but I'll throw my two cents in.
My favorite Toku moment from this year is the community's growth; we've hella chilled out. I've been in the community (starting over at HJU) since about 2006 and at the time, Kabuto had a lot of people thinking that Tokusatsu was this big super serious thing. Then Den-O came along and people were getting so angry they could have an aneurism at any moment. Oh, those days were brutal. Shows came and went for a little while, fans got stupidly and overly aggressive, and eventually we find ourselves at the starting point for the community as it is today, Double and Shinkenger. Both shows brought in new fans, which make up a sizable chunk of the community today. These fans love their shows and don't get too upset if something kiddy or a little floosy happens; thus leveling out more aggressive fans. They, you, me, us all realize that at the end of the day we're watching shows about guys in rubber suits beating the crap out of each other; nothing more, nothing less. And that's the "down to earth" mentality that I've been waiting to see grow in the community for years. After something like that, I should probably mention a show or two. Love Fourze and Akibaranger, but what really stands out in my mind are the opening episodes of Wizard. I honestly can't tell you how much I've rewatched those episodes, it's probably one of the best openers to a rider show I've seen. It sets up who Haruto is, lays out the rules, and gives us a great peek at what we're going to be watching for the next year. Although Wizard has been a slow burn plot-wise, I'm still watching to see how the events set into motion in those episodes pan out... and how the use of the Dragon Styles come back to bite Haruto. |
This has been a good year for Toku. The year began strong with Gokaiger's and Garo's finales. However, most of my year has been spent exploring the past Kamen Riders and Super Sentais. Here's just a few moments I can think of:
Gokaiger: I gave 35 reasons why the finale was awesome back in the episode thread. There's not much else I can say about it other than it was a very strong finale that most Sentais and Kamen Riders I've seen just don't pull off. Garo: There's a moment in many shows (animes more than others) where the final battle is set up and the heroes are hopelessly outnumbered. The only thing to do is summon all your CGI horses, load some JAM Project, and ROCK. Makai Senki had many great moments in it, but I didn't rewind and rewatch any of them nearly as much as that battle charge. Past Rider: Agito. All of it. This is my favorite Kamen Rider series and I do not believe any Rider show will be able to top it. The pacing and tone are close to perfect. However, if I had to pick one single moment, it's when Shouichi punchs the Overload of Darkness with no powers and an assist of Hikawa's BFG. Past Sentai: I saw all of Jetman and I'm still working on Zyuranger. I enjoy them both a great deal, but the best moment of past Sentai belongs to the only epsiode of Fiveman I've seen. It's episode 4. It may be the most hilarious thing I have ever seen in all toku. Other: I've enjoyed the debates I've had with you guys. Some of you know how to hold your ground, that's for sure. I think the tournament debates were probably the best because everyone got in on those. Nothing like an evenly sided debate to make a good tournament match. |
My fave selected Toku moments, watching the entirety of Gokaiger & Kamen Rider Fourze, both shows seemingly did something that made me want to glow from inside with joy. :)
Also for me, saw the end of watching Kamen Rider Black some months back & now in recent times: Chojin Sentai Jetman and man, classic toku like these two showed how much stories like these can never be imitated so easily. :( That and sadly, finaly seeing the demise of Electro Wave Human Tackle in Kamen Rider Stronger episodes #29/30 and to see the horror in Tachibana's face, he was the audiences' eyes & ears & most of all, our hearts, helpless to see Yuriko die, sacrificing herself to save Shigeru so he can defeat the enemy. Both that & seeing the death of Black Condor/Gai Yuuki, who had the most interesting character development alongside his comrade, Red Hawk: Ryu. Explains what had happened in Gokaiger afterwards. Best find: Getting a DX Super Best Double Driver Henshin Belt. And playing with it during 2 days of Collectormania at Milton Keynes & allowing the Fourth Doctor himself, Tom Baker to hold a Gaiamemory! ;) Best Figuarts - Latecomer. it's a triple tie between SHF Akibared, Red Hawk & Kamen Rider Fourze (Base States) I'm now currently working my way through, Chouju Sentai Liveman, Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger, Gosei Sentai Dairanger, Kamen Rider Agito, GoGo Sentai Boukenger, Engine Sentai Go-Onger & Samurai Sentai Shinkenger as best as I can, but also got Go-Busters & KR Wizard to follow too. :p |
My favorite toku moment of the year
Well for me it has to be me finally joining the Toku World & watching the shows from Super Sentai & Kamen Rider & learning the History & seeing all the amazing toys that came from them
I was a big fan of Power Rangers when I was young & collected alot of the old toys & I always heard about that it was taken from a Japanese show but I never knew what they were talking about till years later & now that I know I wish I had found out this stuff out years ago cause I been missing out alot But now I have been enjoying the both the old & new stuff that has come from Toku & the community that is a part of it & how amazing it is & even though I'm still new & young to it I sure have seen alot in a short time & I can't wait to see what next year will bring to us Super Heroes, Giant Robots, Kaiju Monsters, & Action Adventures & For my Favorite Moment will always be Gokaiger with Space Pirates & all past Sentai Warriors coming together & having the Biggest Mech Fest Fighting an Old Enemy of the Past was simply Epic Happy Holidays :) |
I need to get back here more often. (Stupid work firewall blocks TokuNation but allows TFW?)
Anyway, my favorite Toku moment of 2012 is definitely the arrival of Kamen Rider Wizard. Watching that first episode was amazing, and I love the designs from the show. Can't wait to get the SHF's! Here's wishing every one a happy holiday season and great start to the new year! :D |
My favorite memory is in super hero taisen during the final battle. It may not have had a story but that part was really cool.
|
I am not really a Kamen Rider fan, so nothing there
I have just recently started watching sentai, so I would have to say the new Kyoruger anouced Power Ranger wise, the end of samurai, and hearing how awesome Megaforce is gonna be! hope everyone had a great Christmas :D |
Well for me finding this site and finding avenues of watching the original Japanese versions of the Power Rangers stuff is my favorite memory. Being as I haven't watched any of the new series that aired this year in Japan yet, I 'm going to have to go with Power Ranger Samurai, the last episode as being my favorite of this years stuff suitably epic and cheesy at the same time.

The ending of Gokaiger was a pretty big memory for me. I loved that the show was a sentai-themed sentai. It was impressive how they combined all the shows into one continuity, rewarding long-time fans of the series. The whole show, especially the penultimate episode, was a great way to reflect on sentai's history and impact on people.

Oh before I forget.
I really enjoy working on that interactive fic with Destroyman,Sentai/OOO, and Shockercon/ |
I just got my first Figurart of the first rider serise I wached
|
Favorite moment is actually learning about gokaiger (my first sentai show) and watching it from beginning to end.
|
My favorite Toku moment of 2012...... Receiving my Micro Go-Onger Kyuretsuoh for Xmas.
|
I'd have to say the finale to Gokaiger wins my vote in particular using all the sentai powers special attacks to finish Akudos Gill. Though seeing the mmpr homage with the dragon shield was pretty impessive as well.

My best Toku memory was my sophomore year of college (in 1999 to 2000). My roommate was from Malaysia and his parents shipped him dozens of VHS tapes of Super Sentai, Kamen Rider, Ultraman and other Toku. My dorm was mixed gender and had a large atrium on the 2nd floor just outside our room. The atrium also had a 60" DLP tv and VCR setup and we started watching the shows. Neither of us had any idea what was being said as they tapes had no subtitles and we didn't speak japanese. My roommate spoke Chinese but his Dad spoke many languages and was a Toku fan. What started off as just the two of us grew quickly grew into just about the entire dorm watching the shows together on 'Spandex Wednesday'. It got to the point where we started to MST3K the shows and different folks got assigned different roles. Through the year we watched Dynaman through Megaranger, Kamen Rider Black & Black RX, The Metal hero show that Bettleborgs was base on and a few Ultraman and other shows that to this day I don't know what they were. It was a fun time that I will never forget and it cemented my love of Toku.

Just this year right? For Kamen rider either the ooo and fourze move just for Double showing up or the return of Decade (the movie wasn't great, but Decade was the first rider show I got to watch weekly as it aired)
In general though, my favorite rider memories are associated heavily with Agito and Double. Seriously wanted to shed a tear for Ryo and all his misfortunes or for the second to final episode of Double. Special mentions go to the original ending of Decade for being awesome yet annoyingly unresolved and the excellence that is Black and Kuuga. I'm Normally more of a rider guy but sentai had some good stuff this year. With Sentai, either the entirety of Akibarangers (loved that show to death) or Gokaiger. |
It seems silly but only 30 years later I have come to re-enjoy Kamen Rider as a series. When I was very young my dad was stationed in South Korea and we stayed in Japan (don't ask me what city I was 3) but I had developed a yen for Kamen Rider I believe it was V3 didn't understand a word but the action and the henshin did it for me. I had a love for sentai for years and even fondly remembered the dynaman series on USA network in the 80s but thanks to this site I have found myself revisiting the showa series and now the new heisei series too.
|
My toku moment of the year was the entire Fourze series. It's my first ever japanese toku and my first Kamen Rider series. It got me into figuarts. And watching it every week with my little brother made it even better!

My Favorite moment would also be my first.
I'm probably 9 and at a friends house. we're sitting around and he says "OH I wanna show you something" and he pops in a VHS tape. I then watch 2 episodes of "Ultraman: Towards the future" of course I am immediately hooked, I'd watched Godzilla films all my life but this was something new! Jump forward a year of so I see an ad for "MMPR" and think "WOW, that looks like Ultraman!" this led me to watching MMPR....VR Troopers....and god help my 'Super Human Samurai Cyber Squad' I've been in the game ever since, seen the founding of TV-N, worked with Japan-Hero until they shut down, was there at the founding of HJU and modded for a time, and even played the infinity minute' role in the creation of Magiranger. To see where Toku is now 20 some years later is a phenomenal thing to see, and I am so glad there are so many more fans out there. |
My favorite Toku memory this year has got to be the epic fight between Blue Buster and Escape in episode 25 of Tokumei Sentai Go-Buster.
"So no more thinking, Just Fighting!"-Ryuji My first memories of anything Toku was MMPR and a collection of Godzilla VHS at my local Library :D |
My favourite Toku moment was Agaki asserting that no one will ever forget Akibaranger, because nerds never forget anything.
There's meta, and then there's truth. :) |

Hmm my favorite Toku moment would be ep 50 of gokaiger when Gai wanted to use the great treasure but the others disagreed with him.The whole convo was just interesting and it showed how all of them learned from the past sentai members and Gai destroying the treasure was just so sad but what marvelous said to him after that made me laugh.

For me it was being exposed to Super Sentai, Kamen Rider and the whole action-packed universe known as Tokusatsu. For a while i've known about it but never gave it a chance until now and i'm grateful to have found it.
It started with Jetman, Liveman, Agito, OOO, and W then progressed to non-Rider shows such as Garo, Kodai Shoujo Dogu-Chan and Cutie The Honey The Live and i wouldn't trade all the time i've spent discovering and watching these shows for anything in the world. |
My favorite moment? It might as well be the beginning.
Growing up, while most kids watched Barney, Godzilla was my guy running around in a dinosaur costume. I had gotten a Godzilla VHS boxset one year for my birthday, it had Godzilla (1954), Godzilla vs Mothra, Godzilla vs Monster Zero, Terror of Mechagodzilla and Son of Godzilla (ugh). I popped in Terror of Mechagodzilla and the rest was history. I was a fan ever since. |
My favorite toku moment of 2012 has to be when I marathoned a bunch of old sentai from Changeman to GoGoV throughout the whole year, raw and subbed. I also enjoyed all the toku entries from this year.
