After I wake up from my nap, (I'm old, we nap!), I plan on watching the first three episodes of Juukou B-Fighter. So we'll see how that goes.
|
Watching Juukou B-Fighter.. and everything was going pretty normal. Insects were swarming, they introduced the three main heroes, devoloping backstory for the story. ... Then one of them stumbled on a giantass beetle furby. And now I don't know wtf is happening anymore. I kid, I like Sage Guru's design.. Just it was a moment of wtf :lol
I may've chuckled when I saw the villians. I love Schwartz, and Jera, Gigaro, and Gaohm. But I had a serious Big Bad Beetleborg flashback, I couldn't help it. I absolutely love their Flying Rockhand Fortess of Doom, though. That thing is kickass. And it looks like they stole the fighters from Voltron. Not that I'm complaining, I loved those things. That building they use for Jamahl's Frontline Base on Earth, is there anything that building isn't it? I can't remember an anime or Live Action show from Japan that didn't have that building in it somewhere. The best example I have is season 02 of Digimon. And now the return of Guru Furby! I do like the Henshin, also like they call out Juukou instead of Hension. But the coolass Henshin was followed by.. I don't know what you'd call that. More Crucify Fetish? And the weirdest ass dancing I've ever seen :lol I take that back. The weird disco bubble room "Gaohm Zone" is the weirdest ass thing I've ever seen. The fight itself was awesome. Makes me hate Big Bad Beetleborgs even more for ruining the concept. I love the weapons, I love the Henshin, I love the villians. If you can find it? Absolutely watch it. |

There are! Tv-Nihon, Over-Time, and some other Fan Groups have subbed alot of that. There's a thread called "Where to find your Fansubs", it might help you out alot in finding them!

Thanks! :)

I'm watching episode two of JuuKou B-Fighter.. And I had to stop to post this. Rei is infiltrating Jamahl brainwashing people into 'violent bacteria' so she's donning a disguise. The most dumbass lazyass design I've ever seen in my 32 years of life on this Planet. It's a suit, a hat, glasses, and a mastache she drew on with a sharpee. She didn't even hide her hair! Dem some dumbass villians. |

B-Fighters in particular only has 5 episodes subbed I know. |

But I guess it's better than nothing, I suppose. Like I said, it is a stupid question. |
So I just watched the opening episode of Tomica Hero Rescue Force, man this is so sweet, it's like Toku Thunderbirds.

What are the other two, the sequel to Rescue Force and the spiritual prequel? |
Quote:
As for Rescue Fire, I guess it's more of a sequel than RyuKenDo is a prequel, but that's not saying much. It has more similar themes, as well as some returning characters(the Director of the UFDA/the guy in charge of all the good things is actually played by the original Kamen Rider), but I still won't call it a sequel on the pure fact that it's not a continuation of a plot. And, for what it's worth, the toys of Gridman, aka Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad, were designed by Takara. But not the show. |

So I checked out the opening episode of RyuKenDo and I really wasn't impressed. Whereas Rescue Force is huge and epic and tries to make every moment awesome with what seems to be a surprisingly big budget, RyuKenDo just felt like a cheap Kamen Rider knockoff. And like when the guy finally morphed and fought the demon, there were some extremely cool moments but it was undermined, at least for me, by the majority of the fight being CGI and CGI that wouldn't have looked out of place on an early PS2 game cutscene. |

But yeah a troubled production really does show in RyuKenDo, which is a shame because it had some good ideas. Still watching, and loving, Rescue Force. I don't want this to be misconstrued as shipping because that isn't what I mean, but I love the chemistry between Kyosuke and Hikaru. Usually in Toku the rookie is placed with a harsh male team member who treats the rookie like shit, makes the rookie feel worthless and the rookie basically has to land himself in a hospital bed to prove himself, you know the cliché, it's tiresome. However rightly so Hikaru proves himself very quickly and Kyosuke quickly develops a respect for him, even with his hot headed nature and so I like the friendship that forms between them. And I dunno, I appreciate a series that doesn't think goofball comedy and feel good is the same thing. |
So I've started watching the Gransazer series. It's interesting, definitely. I'm worried, because they're throwing so much stuff into the beginning of the series(there were nine Gransazers by episode 6!), that it's all gonna slow to a crawl by the time all 12 are introduced. Which will probably happen by the 15th episode, tops.
I don't understand the Wind Tribe. They say they're supposed to be peaceful, and that the Fire Tribe are warmongers, but, there's none of that at all. It's the Wind Tribe that are the cause of the conflict between the other Gransazers, and they destroyed a dam and burned a forest! Not very peaceful if you ask me... The Fire Tribe is pretty standard. Hot head hero, quieter soft-spoken hero, and the tsundere. SazerLion(quieter soft-spoken hero) is my favorite so far. And then the Earth Tribe. I quite like the leader guy of the Earth Tribe(don't remember his name(s)), but the other two are... eh? There's a policeman and a hip hop dancer. The most notable thing I can say about either is that the name of the hip hop dancer's weapon is, I'm not making this up, the Lady Claw. From the fathers of Tokusatsu, ladies and gents! But I still like this show. Obviously characters aren't gonna be the best since there has to be 12 of them + a few others, but I enjoy what I've seen so far, and the plot is something I want to see fully evolve. |
I'm so glad you're here to indirectly introduce me to these shows I'd never have heard of, I'm gonna go away and check out this series as well.

Did I mention Gransazer and it's two sequels are made by Toho? You know, Godzilla and stuff. |

There's also apparently a big buff robot down the line that combines all of them into a great big dragon, so I look forward to that. They're also mostly physical models instead of CGI, which is nice(there's some CGI for transformation and stuff, but I can live with it). |
I'm not really sure how I feel about that opening episode, I mean on the one hand, that has to be one of the cheapest looking productions I've ever seen, I've seen youtube student VFX films that look better.
HOWEVER the suit design was really, really cool, I loved the opening space battle and it's nice to have a blend of men and women again after Kamen Rider Sausagefest. I'll give it a few more episodes. |

Also, Gransazer has the shame of having one of, if not the worst endings I've heard in a Tokusatsu show. |

The second episode was a vast improvement over the first, it stumbled here and there but all in all I really enjoyed it.

Yeah man, all the Earth warriors have been introduced now. The mech fighting is awesome and the one on one fights have gotten a lot better. The general plot is a lot better as well.

I don't really know the correct thread for this, so I guess this will do. I just checked out Ultraman Tiga's opening episode and it was glorious, in a sort of so terrible it's awesome kind of way. Tiga really made me want to grab the popcorn and kick back ready for some lols. |
Since for some reason Ultra falls under "Other" on this board, this is the correct forum for it, yes.
What exactly was terrible about the first episode of Tiga? What version did you watch? The Foxbox dub is awful, but the episode itself is pretty good I think. |

CG never looks good in tokusatsu save for "big budget" features like the Millenium Godzilla movies and the little CG we get in the Hesai Gamera movies.
I lean the other way -- I find the rubber suits to be substantially better looking than the spandex used in Super Sentai, but that's just me. Anyway, stick with Tiga if you are not too busy with Nexus, because Tiga is a good show. |

Well, I just finished the first episode of Super Robot Red Baron. And I'd have to say, it was pretty nice. It seems a bit slow (who knows if it picks up in the later episodes), but overall it's pretty entertaining.

So I checked out another episode of Tiga as I want to get into Ultraman once I'm done with Kamen Rider OOO.
So Tiga is an Ultraman with Kuuga's Mighty and Dragon forms then, basically? They have the barely able to differentiate the power between the two style like Kuuga did as well. Between some interesting world building and some gloriously shitty effects I had a lot of fun with this episode. I checked out the opening episode of that Indonesian Toku series, 'Bima Satria Garuda' the quality of this rip and translation was terrible by the way. In terms of the show itself? It was...okay. The fight where Ray first transforms into Bima is FANTASTIC, Bima looks cool as all hell and the fight is extremely well done. Everything else though...felt like someone's web series, rather than an actual toku show, it wasn't cheap feeling...exactly but more just amateurish. It had lots of cool designs and cool ideas but the whole thing was put together in a really clunky fashion and as a film student especially I found myself constantly going 'why would you construct the scene like that?' |

Episode 2 of Bima practically jumped straight into the suit fighting which actually made me appreciate the suit action less and notice the generally poor production values more. Plus it's odd, it seems to, of all things, rip off Gransazer quite often. Still Helios was pretty cool and I love Bima's design so much, so I want to want to watch more.
Also we got more plot focus this episode as well but it isn't worth talking about as it's so generic. Really it is sorta all the Saban era plots jumbled together. There is some mystic dude with a connection to the villains, a bunch of stones which grant superpowers, the stones come together will mean the end of the world, space pirate war empire people who want to take over the Earth etc etc Just checked out the opening episode of Cutie Honey...because it stared Mikie Hara, :lol I actually knew nothing else about it going in other than that. And...dafuq did I just watch? I never expected an almost scene for scene split of a school girl check up and incest. As a huge Mikie Hara fan though...I enjoyed this...like a lot. Checked out another episode Bima, this was their attempt at an of the week episode. And it was fantastic! Lizardo or whatever his name was was rubbish though. It's weird that in these cheaper series the hand to hand and stunts are always way more impressive than the weapon or power fighting but what is most impressive is this is actually some of the best hand to hand stuff I've seen in Toku since Meteor, Bima moves with such fluidity and grace and I love how they convince the audience he has super human speed and strength, he just feels effortless and natural. I love it. |
We watched the first two episodes of Lion Maru G and we had enough. Well, I kind of wanted to give it one more episode before quitting, but my g/f and all of our friends were pretty much after the first episode. The series has some interesting editing, but at the same time, it is annoying and the main character is just down right abnoxious. Plus, the entire thing was just stupid. The only thing I did enjoy was seeing KakuRanger's Junior in it (Kenichi Endo) playing a man named Junior.
|
Saw the first two episodes of BIMA yesterday, and I liked it. Its not supposed to be complex, this series is meant for taking breaks from toku shows with complex plots and Ryuki endings that will piss you off.
I like BIMA's design, reminds me of both the Phoenix phantom and Kamen Rider OOO Tajador. |
