They look cool enough I guess. It could at least make for an interesting and original story if they haven't been used too much.
Also, is it bad that I really don't like the Daleks? I've only really watched Eccleston and Smith's runs, but even before that I knew about them and thought they were ridiculous... |
You are now on my enemies list ;)
Nah, each to their own. I can see exactly why people would think they're ridiculous. Plus I think Dalek is the only new series story that's done them proper justice. The season 1 and 4 finales came close, but the typical RTD-cop out endings kinda spoilt them. |

What about the Classic series? Which Dalek stories do you recommend, Zeo? I've only watched the Third Doctor ones and while they're okay, I'm not sure they're really amazing in any of them. |
Knowing nothing of the Zygons...
I was about to say "yay?" until I thought about it more. Knowing nothing of the Zygons - this is awesome! We need new alien enemies! It seems every time one of the old species is reintroduced (Cybermen, Daleks, Sontarans, etc.) they get wayyy overused. A new enemy species is most welcome in my book. |
Planet of the Daleks is my favourite (which I guess you've seen if you've watched the third Doctor ones), but its not necessarily one I'd highly recommend. I like it for a lot of nostalgic reasons, but a chunk of the plot is a rehash of the first Dalek story.
I would say the two must-see stories are Genesis of the Daleks and The Dalek Invasion of Earth. The Daleks is a great story too, but can get a little long-winded at times. Once you've seen Genesis, then I recommend Remembrance of the Daleks since Dalek civil wars are always fun to watch :D |

I keep hearing good things about Genesis of the Daleks but I can't find it at the rental store! I guess if it really is the quintessential Dalek story I might just shell out money to import a DVD. :D I have also always been fascinated with the Dalek Invasion of Earth (another Classic I haven't watched) but I haven't really heard much about Remembrance yet. I'm going to have a look at it. Quote:

Don't know about you guys, but this would have been the coolest beans:
http://www.bleedingcool.com/2013/04/...hat-never-was/ Some awesome shots: http://img571.imageshack.us/img571/8...onartd5txe.jpg http://img834.imageshack.us/img834/5...nortonartd.jpg http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/5...nortonartd.jpg http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/9...nortonartd.jpg I just love how all of them are so easily identifiable. It's such a shame this project was abandoned. |
Outside of a brilliant speech from Matt Smith I found the latest episode to be boring as hell. It was great that it wasn't set on Earth, but there's something about the over abundance of aliens that makes me feel like I'm watching Star Wars rather than Doctor Who (though I guess that has more to do with costume design than the plot itself). Seriously not feeling Clara at the moment either. People say Martha was bland but Clara is just so boring to watch.
Oh, and Murray Gold REALLY needs to tone it down. I know people have been complaining about it since day one, but the score was horrifically overpowering this episode. |

I thought todays episode started really strong, nice bit of character building for Clara and explained the leaf in her book. Then it quickly dipped. There was a whole pyramid to explore and an epic break out from an alien... who did nothing...
Speech from Matt was awesome though, and the Leaf thing was kind of neat with the infinite possibilities of the universe angle... just a shame it was so anti-climatic... More importantly, the doctor just destroyed a sun that seemingly gave power and light to 7 planets (unless I'm just misunderstanding something there?) and returned clara home like nothing had happened. Still intrigued to see where the series goes, and I still adore Jenna =p |
I enjoyed this week's episode. I love Clara, I love his new Purple Coat, I love the references to the First Doctor. I don't get where people said it was boring. It was a very nice first outing for a new companion. The only thing I wish is that they would've done better than Planet'O'Lantern for the Baddie. I was hoping for Galactus and we got Mongo :lol
|
Oooo look fellow Who fans
|
Definitely put me in the camp of people who found this week's episode boring.
|
Episodes okay, but I do understand the sentiments that it lacks a bit of pizazz. I did like the bits of Clara's backstory, as well as the Doctor's epic speech about what he's seen. Plus, the visuals are appropriately gorgeous here, it's always nice to see alien worlds.
There's just something about Who lately, that just doesn't seem so attractive anymore. Can't put my finger on it, but it's just another show I tune in to now, not one that I eagerly anticipate every week. I really think the Moffat/Smith era needs a refresh somehow, but I guess that won't happen anytime soon. |
Well I'm not sure about you all...but one of my favorite aspects of this run is the throwback intro. The music, the background and the slight image of his face. THAT I have missed...but yeah, not the strongest of the "new generation" but...well...ok, Clara can be on screen and grinning and I'll be happy lol.

Last weeks episode was Okay, with a couple of good bits balanced out by some boring bits. But for now (sorry for the delay), the next review!
S1 Ep8: Father's Day- 14/06/05 Rose goes back into time to see her dead father and 'on impulse' saves his life. Which rips open time. Yay! Plot Rose asks the Doctor to take her back in time to see her late father, Pete, whoher mother remnisced about a lot when she was a child. The first time she stands and watches as he gets run over but they go back again, and she saves him. The other Doctor and Rose dissapear. They get to a church where people are getting married, where the car that almost ran Pete down comes close to hitting him again, and then when it misses goes around the building on a repeat. Meanwhile, mysterious creatures (Reapers) come down from the sky and start 'eating' people. After a while, the Doctor goes to the Tardis, finding the inside vanished and just an empty shell. He runs to the church just as the reapers attack. The rest of the episode is spent mainly on exposition until the Doctor is attacked by a reaper after Rose touches a Baby! Rose. Pete then lets himself get run over to save every else on Earth. This makes the Reapers dissapear. The Doctor reapears and him and Rose go off in another adventure in the TARDIS- World War 2! (Which will not be covered in this review). The plot has lots of tension, and while some scenes in the episode feel slow, the overall speed goes quickly. 7/10 Characters This episode is practically all about character. We learn about Rose's backstory, her family, her relationship with the Doctor. It all gets some mention. Emotionally, this episode has strong heartstring pulls, although some of the moments with Jackie and Pete fighting get annoying quick. 9/10 Scare Factor Nothing that scary or disturbing is shown, although someone who who knows a car accident victim may feel disturbed. 5/10 Bad Wolf Watch- Graffiti on a wall Overall This episode isn't necessary to watch if you're only focusing on story, but it is a must watch if you want to focus on Rose. Tune in next time for Aliens in Cardiff! |

i havent got the link but if you search 50th anneversary Doctor who the mail website got on location photos of tennant. by the looks of things he is donning his season 2 doctor costume just by the traousers. this make me think that 10th doctor and rose will be from season 2 time period.
|
Most likely. Its the only time they were ever travelling together.
|
Something about Father's Day got me thinking. When Rose changes time, we get reapers. We get the end of the freaking universe. But when the Doctor changes time (eg: The Christmas Invasion) nothing happens. I know ther was some 'weak point' stuff about there being two of them in one point, but seriously? Two Doctors are allowed to meet together all the time in the past and nothing happened. It could be the Time Lords but what about 'The Two Doctors'. Two Doctors meet up without the Time Lords supervision and nothing bad happens. Someone trys to change the Doctor's past and nothiong bad happens other than Colin Bakes trying to eat a cat. In the new series, Eleven appears twice at a fixed point (Impossible Astronaut) and nothing happened. I know its a bit small, but it bugs me.

The problem with Father's Day was while the whole reaper aspect made for a great story, it opened a whole can of worms with not only events in the classic show, but anything that came after it pretty much ignored it. It's one of those things that's best ignored :lol

So "Dalek on a submarine featuring Ridley Scott's Alien" was pretty good. Definitely the best of this half season so far.
Unmasking the Ice Warrior was a horrible choice though.. Completely ruined the sense of mystery the episode set up. |
Another excellent episode. I'm really enjoying how they're handling this half of the 50th Anniversary season. I love the Time and Place being part of the scenary not just written on the bottom of the screen, I love the retro opening harking back to some of the best of the Doctor including when they show Matt's face and such, And I absolutely love we saw a return of the Ice Warriors. Including What they look like outside of their suits. What I'm really enjoying his Clara, and how she's not Amy or Rory. I love Clare, and everything about her. I think she was an excellent choice for a Companion. ... I just really Hated Amy Pond and Rory. Absoutely Hated them.
Hated. |
I'm still bummed we didn't get Victorian Clara as the companion. At least she had a personality that wasn't smartarse (Oswin) or dull (current Clara) :(

Yep, her character has done absolutely nothing unique or interesting other than having a backstory which was set up by the other two.

Pretty good episode, this one. The Ice Warriors were some of the coolest classic villains, and this update did well in reintroducing them. Not knowing anything about the episode prior to watching I was surprised at the whole out of suit sequence, but it was done pretty well.
Definitely my favorite of the second half and possibly the entire season so far. |

Cold War was the best episode this half of the season. The Angels Take Manhatten still wins it for me. Anyway, to the next review!
S1 E11: Boom Town- 04/06/05 The Doctor travels to Cardiff to refuel the TARDIS, and discovers an old enemy still alive. Plot The Doctor and Rose (and Captain Jack Harkness, a time agent from the future) arrive in Cardiff to refuel from the rift we saw back in episode 3. Mickey shows up because Rose invited him, and they go out to lunch. This is ruined when the Doctor sees Margeret the Slitheen, who somehow survived Downing Street being blown up by teleporting out. They go to confront her, where it's revealed that she is building a nuclear plant to blow up the world and split open the rift so she can use an extrapolator (sufrboard) to escape Earth. They confront her and decide to take her home to be executed. The Doctor takes her out for a last meal (breaking his vegetarianism). While this happens, we get some moral stuff and then The TARDIS starts ripping apart Cardiff. TARDIS's can do that. Margaret caused it, but gets reversed into an egg by the Deus Ex Machina of the TARDIS> They do some technobable and then leave for Raxicoricofalipatorius. Meanwhile, Cardiff has a giant rift running through it which I'm sure will never come up again. The polt is okay, with a couple of interesting bits. It mostly stems from the moral issues and relationship issues it brings. The ending is sorta iffy but, hey, the TARDIS can do that. 6/10 Characters This episode is all about character development, with the moral issues of the Doctor's one man crusade through time. It tries to show you someone can change, but then subverts it to hell by showing that they stay the same. Mickey and Rose's relationship is disected in this episode, showing that, while Rose will never be ther, Mickey will never move on. This episode deals with the characters really well, creating an interesting set up for next episode's Mickey/Rose interaction. 9/20 Scare Factor Barely any scary moments. At least they removed most of the fart humour. 1/10 Bad Wolf Watch- The Blaid Drwg Power Plant (Bad Wolf). Also, the first time they acknowledge the meme. Overall An average episode, with sometruly interesting sequences (the Doctor dining with the enemy), the true reason to watch is to set up the finale, along with a little show called Torchwood 7/10 |
That episode was a just a massive advertisement for Cardiff Bay. It was glorious :lol
