Mobile Suit Gundam :The Origin Volume I
Can I be honest? I don't care much for first Gundam(at least the compilation trilogy). I think it gets out shined by a lot of its sequels/ sucessors. The Gundam looked super campy and I don't care for Amuro. But this Manga however, has gotten my interest a lot more. It takes the shitty original art style and remakes it for manga pages and it looks beautiful. I love the fight scenes, just so beautiful. I like the fact that there was multiple prototypes and the RX-78-01 tried to stop the Zakus. Of course, I don't like First Gundam Char so his changed scenes don't get much love from me. My only problem with the manga is that outside the color pages the Rx-78 look super bland. I know it's manga and it's supposed to be black and white, but couldn't they have some shading at the midsection to make it look interesting? Something else to note is that these releases are really nice. All of the pages are super high quality and the hard covers are very good. |
Sorry for the double post...
Gundam: The origin volume II I'm not a big fan of the Garma arc in MSG. But I do like a lot of the character nuances in the story. Like Char's hatred of the Zabi family, Sayla's distance from everyone else, especially the rise of Zeon's full power at the end of the volume. Garma's death was beautifully done with the beautiful watercolor style. Another thing I love about this manga is how it plays with shades of black. I mainly read Shonen Jump manga and usually those drawings have the black be used to define lines and features. Its great to see how you can tell its night just by the way the surroundings of the white base and the people are shaded, despite the fact most of it is in black and white. |
Up to me again?
Founding Brothers Its a book for school, so shut up. This book is about the people behind the American Revolution and the formation and solidification of the U.S. government's power and policies. I'm only part way thorugh chapter 2. And this book is ridiculously wordy too. I feeling like I'm tripping every time I read a paragraph because its not something I'm used to reading. In the first Chapter, you learn about the most famous American duel and how everyone that wasn't the participants had to look away so they couldn't give any details to a court. They even tried not to look at the damaged duelist's body. If this happened today, the politicains would bring machine guns, kill the fuck out of each other and everybody watched, observers would hide the bodies and claimed they never saw anything and would get a slap on the wrist from the government and if they were politicians get reelected 5 more times. |

I am #341 on the waiting list out of who nows how many. And that's just the OverDrive eBook. :lol Right now, though, I'm reading The Green Lantern Chronicles, Volume III. They're good stories... but then you get to the very insensitive nickname for Thomas Kalmaku. It really doesn't help that you hear that nickname more often than "Thomas Kalmaku." The fact that it's usually bolded doesn't make things any better. |
Akame Ga Kill, Akame Ga Kill Zero, and SAO light novels.

Just finished the first volume of Gantz. Kinda disappointed that it didn't give an overall good summary to the reader of what the plot is and while the small little explanation is nice, it isn't full easy to get the full idea of what the series is. Other then that I thought it wasn't all that bad. The characters acted as they probably would in the same situation and came off as real people, the artwork was very nice, and it's got a good sci-fi/gore/echi theme which is pretty cool (not gonna lie, ultraviolence and nudity is kinda cool to see in comics every so often).
It's a series I've been meaning to read and have known about for years and it's nice that I'm finally getting around to it. I'll definitely read the second volume to see how things progress and from there I'll probably end up keep reading. |
I sat down and revisited the Silver saga.

RG Veda, enjoying it too.
|
After finishing the anime for Rave Master, I'm picking up where it left off at with the manga.
|
I'm currently working my way through Fear Itself and most of it's tie-ins. Personally, I like the stories, but there are a few too many tie-ins.
|
I'm reading this Magic The Gathering comic from IDW. It's pretty good it stars Dack Fayden, my friends want me to get into Magic but I can't really afford to but the stories and characters intrigue me.
Also I just finished catching up with Infinity Man and the Forever People which has been interesting so far. |
Founding Brothers
Had to finish it for school. Its a really interesting look at the Founding Fathers and deconstructing 6 major events from the people that caused the Revolution to happen. Its very itellectually worded so its not the easiest thing to read, but I recommend it if you're familiar with the subject material. Grapes of Wrath On Chapter 5. The two characters I've met so are a pedophile preacher and a murderer lol. |
Wandering Son: I'm pretty sure this is the first manga I've read that hasn't used transgendered characters for comedy. That aside, I've really enjoyed it and it's characters.
Bokura no Hentai: This one too. It's surprisingly mature despite its cutesy art-style. |
Grapes of Wrath chapter 6
Why are the characters I am encountering all terrible people in some form or another?!?!?! I lol at the idea of people bringing out guns to the person who is trying to take thier house away. I get that it was the 30s and people in that area didn't have the brightest idea but that sounds like some hardcore Southern shit right there lol. |
The Life of Lazarillo de Tormes and of His Fortunes and Adversities:
Lazarillo de Tormes is a really fun read, as the founder of the picaresque novel genre, you have a simple story about the tricks and resourcefulness of Lazaro a young boy that in each chapter serves a new master and ahs to struggle to survive. While the character is obviously flawed his cleverness and creativity make it so easy to root for him, his plans are fun and unique and you can't help but love the little rascal. It's a pretty short book too, I should be able to finish it tomorrow. Which is good, because the copy is so old and badly treated it is literally falling part as I read it. |

Are Northstar and Kyle Jinadu still married or did one of the get devoured by and ethereal hellbeast or some other stupid ass reason used to end superhero couples? I mean, ignoring the controversy surrounding gay marriage, the two ARE a married couple in the Marvel Universe and I'm curious if Mephisto tried buying their marriage in exchange for the life of Aurora's pet gerbil or something.

Oh, and Aunt May and J. Jonah Jameson, Sr., are still married. And Black Bolt has five wives. And I don't think that Bruce and Betty got divorced, so there's that. |

Grapes of Wrath
Well someone just died. Here's a random gas station and a guy trying to buy bread. SYMBOL1SM! |
I'm slowly reading through the updated Sailor Moon manga Kodonosha released last year. I'm in Chapter 11 where Endymion is now under Beryl's control.
I'm also slowly reading through Saga of the Swamp Thing (up to Volume 4), One Piece, and Attack on Titan. |
Grapes of Wrath
Finally! Shit just got real! The corrupt ass cops took Casy to coer for Tom who was trying to protect that guy trying to stand up against that shady employer dude. |
Me again?
Grapes of Wrath Finished the book before school started and it was okay. The ending was really fuckin' weird. That dude's life is never going uphill at that point. The Crucible I also had to read this for school. It was a play about the Salem witch trials, written in the 1950s as commentary on the Communist scare and McCarthyism at the time. Its really short, but its interesting and has a lot of underlying themes to it. |
Currently reading Dragonball. I'm at the tower of the Red Ribbon Army and so far, this series is quite awesome. I have to say that kid Goku is far more interesting than his adult counterpart.
|
Now reading "Percy Jackson's Greek Gods", I'm only on Chapter 3 and I'm hooked. Literally hooked.
|
I've been reading the Knights of Sidonia manga recently after watching the anime, I'm really enjoying it. I'm currently on vol. 8, it's probably my favorite one yet. I only have one chapter left tough, I better go ahead and order the remaining two volumes!
|
Well, I read the House of Hades (Percy Jackson Series 2 B4) and it was very good. Lots of drama, tension, humour, other stuff. Now, I have to wonder why I haven't read it since I got it at Xmas
|
Well I just finished the final chapter of the original Dragonball series and overall, it was utterly fantastic. The adventure of watching Goku go from isolated child to a badass adult was pretty damn awesome, but in some ways, I wish he had stayed a kid. I just find him to be far more interesting as a child than an adult. Nevertheless, the adventures within the series were great and there were a lot of hilarity throughout the series. The Chi Chi fight at the tournament is one of the funniest moments for me. Goku's reaction was great. I also loved the introduction to Pilaf and the breaking the fourth wall bits, along with his disgust over Bulma's vulgarity. However, there seems to be two details missing from the manga and now I'm curious where they came from. The first being why is Pilaf and gang stuck as children? When did that happen for it to be a plot point in both GT and Battle of Gods? Secondly, in the Z anime they said Goku trained in the Room of Space and Time, was that an anime invention? If so, how do they train in the manga during the Cell saga to get stronger? Wait, don't tell me, I'll get there soon enough. My favorite arcs include the first two Tenkai'ichi Bodoukais and the Red Ribbon Army.
Overall, I am glad I have finally had the chance to read through the original series so I now know where everything is in the Z anime. Of course, I've also started watching the DB anime (up to episode 32), but I can't say the anime has grasp me as much as the manga. Nevertheless, I give this series a great 9/10 stars and look forward to reading through the Z portion now. |
