I freaking love it if it's real, very Showa. The beige would be very different as a base color but who knows if that's actually true either right now. I'm very interested to see where the everything goes.

I thought the beige was a default color and just replace it with each members color and they would have a red trim (maybe Tokku red will have a different trim) and like megaranger they will all have the same helmet design

Yeah, Beige base suit with trim in the Tokkyugers personal color. That's what I'm talking about. Beige as base suit colors is bizarre and very different.

I'm seeing the word Rainbow a lot. I wonder if we'll get a rainbow themed ranger - kinda like Big One.

That would be epic. Big ones suit has really held up imo, but a new attempt cant hurt.

Someone mentioned this on twitter but what with the whole rainbow theme, perhaps there will be a total of 7 rangers? 1 for each color in the visible spectrum ala ROYGBIV. Then Infrared could be some crazy Tokkyu Ichigo power up? This is also begs the question, will there be an evil black ranger? If the visible colors are the good guys and the "shadows" want to destroy the rainbow track it would make sense to employ their own evil black Tokkyuger. Tokkyu Reigo perhaps?

I'm wondering if the main 5 are going to be modern rail traction like bullet trains, HST and the like. But I am also wondering if the sixth Tokkyuger will be steam based (hoping for an A4 with a gun based on the Rocket.

Still hoping for some sort of CHOO CHOO battle cry.

I get more of a Boukenger vibe from those helmet concepts. And the "beige with color highlights" reminds me of the Mages in Kamen Rider Wizard. it would be an interesting new concept for Sentai to go that way...


Also, if I'm counting right based on the assumed start date, Kyoryuger will have 49 episodes total. And since Super Megaforce is set to start at around the same time, that means Saban will be three full seasons behind Toei.

I tried to cook up a little 3D image on my lunch break based on the sketches, but between being pestered by work people and having not touched Lightwave in a ridiculous amount of time, it came out like crap. :lol

Me either, honestly. But I ran out of non-actual-work time so I lopped the face off a head model I had laying around and slapped it in to just finish it. I'd like to actually render something that didn't suck, but it's not a project to start in the middle of a work day.

Ugh "TokkyuOh" really? I've become utterly bored by how bland the robot naming conventions in super sentai have become. I do like modern mecha design in sentai don't get me wrong its great but honestly I just want them to spread out a bit and not name every main series robot at "insert ranger title*-Oh or in the case of last year -Jin its a very unimportant aspect of the show i know but I would like some creativity.

I'm with you there, man. They can be pretty creative with other terms, why not the mecha names? I get that it's become somewhat of a trope of modern sentai, but COME ON!

Considering "-jin" hadn't been used in some time I was pretty pleased with it. Don't see a problem there. Now the 4 Oh's that followed in Kyoryuger (Pteraiden, Spino Dai, Plezu, and Gigant Bragi) were all very uninspired.

I suppose at some point, retailers want a toy to sell and you just have to copyright ANYTHING...

I'm hoping this is the year the mech stuff doesn't just look like a dude in a box, on a sound stage. I mean Go-Busters was one of the first times the mech stuff really had noticeable improvements beyond novelties but all the good work Go-Busters did was removed by Kyoryuger and its mecha which looked as plastic as the toys did.

Whatever you think of the Kyoryuger mecha aside, the show and Go-Busters are visually similar on the giant scale. Go-Busters was at its best in the first few episodes, but it eventually had to level out to something that was easier and quicker to produce - though that was still above and beyond what Sentai had done in the past. Go-Busters saw a long time Red suit actor become the action director, and he's continued in that position with Kyoryuger and hopefully will with Tokkyuger. I think a lot of the visual difference is thanks to how he frames. The giant fights in Kyoryuger aren't always great, but there is a definite sense of scale and placement of the miniatures to give the set that atmosphere of being a real city.

I'm hopeful this years robot will look good, I mean its a train robot it's kinda hard to screw up 5 rectangular cubes that combine but I not sure we'll get the same complexity and engineering we got with gobusteroh if only because of the low toy sales gobuster got. With 5 separate trains they have a lot of too work with to give nice clean looking and distinct limbs but i'm weary we'll get something with a more complicated combination then victory robo.

(am I right in thinking that gobuster got bad sales, that wasn't just a rumor was it?)

It was no rumor.

During the retailer's conference last year, where the Kyoryuger pictures first came from, Bandai's president went so far as to say the toyline failed because the show was too dark. To me that just sounds like they're trying to place the blame on the show rather than their own toyline.
