Let's Watch Wednesdays is about ANY AND ALL tokusatsu. If it's Godzilla it has to be a specific movie. And it has to follow all of the same rules outlined in the first post, it has to be fully subbed, preferably easily available so we don't exclude people as well. Godzilla is a trickier one than some of these other choices though. The movies aren't as readily available for stream and torrent as your more common toku shows are.

And joke or not, just cut out the attitude.

Would only one movie be allowed or could we watch multiple movies that follow a clear continuity?

One. Again, Godzilla movies are primarily licensed in the west. Making it harder to actually view them without owning them. And it's illegal to download them like we do with the average toku fansubs. Tokunation in no way condones the ripping/streaming/torrenting of licensed material such as that.

If you want to nominate a single move that's fine but Godzilla, while it's on the table, isn't always a viable option.

Bummer. Oh well.

The bright side of being limited to a single film is that it's over so quickly that it's conceivable to hook enough people into voting for another Godzilla movie, especially a tie-in sequel or part of a series of films.

Why would it have to be streamed or torrented though?

Godzilla is officially licensed, so unless users are willing to buy it, there's no other way to watch it but illegally.

I think it's dumb to disqualify something because some people might not go the legal route. There's always going to be someone like that. If it's officially licensed, make a clear statement that there is to be no discussion about where to find such things online and move on as normal.


That said, this should make it easier, there are a handful of Godzilla movies on Netflix.

Quick search tells me the following are on Netflix:
Godzilla: King of the Monsters (aka the original with the add US footage)
Godzilla vs. Mothra
Godzilla's Revenge (aka All Monsters Attack)
Terror of Mechagodzilla
Ghidorah: The Three Headed Monster
and finally not Godzilla but related, Rodan

When in doubt, pick one of those.

The whole legal argument falls down when you forget not everyone lives in the same country.

I'm pretty sure - no offence - no one cares enough about LWW enough to import a region free player, and a set from a specific country that isn't theirs.

Godzilla is not disqualified. I mean, literally, that's just the point Den-O was making. However, voting for Godzilla 1985 specifically is borderline crazy when its last Western home video release was a VHS and watching it on DVD legitimately requires a Hong Kong R3. His very point was about it being better to ensure that such a film is readily available legally one way or another, same as yours.

The Netflix list is quite limited, but it's helpful. There's also Crackle, which has all of the Millennium films. Gotta double-check the other Sony-licensed movies to see if they're still up too.

It doesn't matter one bit how international our membership is, Locke. It matters who runs this site and in which country. The website is not going to encourage activity that would break American copyright laws.

I don't actually know what you're talking about now. The entire point of this discussion thus far has been "you could nominate this thing, but be reasonable about it because we're not linking to downloads". It has no correlation to being a little-viewed LWW and if something got enough votes to win, discussions for a single-week LWW will probably be just fine.

My point is, is that it's all well and good to talk about going the legal route, almost admirable but if you choose a series - not just Godzilla - that isn't readily available outside the US, then you're gonna shrink your audience. And I don't think that is fair, if we are gonna be strict on the legality, I think a new rule should be placed that it has to be a series which is readily available in more countries than just north America.

Just a thought, but since it's come up a few times in the weekly LWW threads, maybe for the first week you should include a link to the where to watch thread for whatever show we end up picking. Alot of new people end up not being too clear on how exactly we all find the episodes, I know initially I was the same way, and everyone likes help when they're new.

I know a lot of people are picking Garo but since ive already seen all of it I'll go with another one of Keita Amemiya's series Tekkouki Mikazuki. Its short with only 6 episodes being each almost a hour long.
