I’m a sucker for retro gaming so the new 2D Sonic game hits home for me, and the 3D Sonic game is at least a sequel or a similar idea to Sonic Generations. As far as I’m concerned Sonic fans have some cool stuff to look forward to.

Sonic Mania gave me tingles, and the 2017 project looks promising too. Exciting times ahead.

They have been working on the game for a while now, so I have hope that it will be good. I see people upset that it's Generations 2 than Adventure 3, Heroes 2 or Colors 2.

Lost World was Colors 2.

Shadow was pretty much Heroes, or rather, Heroes was the prequel to Shadow. Also it doesn't need a sequel.

And 06 was pretty much Adventure 3.

Yet if you say Sonic 06 was Adventure 3, fans will get angry at you. A lot of people still want Adventure 3.

They don't want to accept reality.

It has all the makings of an adventure title, it was just rushed to store shelves, it f*cking Adventure 3, i am a sonic fanboy and i will admit this.

That depends entirely on which fans you talk to.

Case in point.

Adventure 3 had been in demand since Adventure 2. 06 was, in a lot of ways, an attempt to merge Adventure and Heroes-style gameplay ( the Amigos system), and was for all intents and purposes, Adventure 3 by a different name. The same applies to Unleashed. I don't think we'll ever see another actual Adventure title, but we've had parts of it mixed in with other games as of late. The only thing really unique to them was the hub worlds, which- yep, 06, Unleashed, and Generations all had.

Sonic Mania looks great too. Mania looks like what Sonic 4 should have been (A real 16 bit sequel).

A look at the man behind the hedgehog.

I loved the Dreamcast game the most, liked the old Sega games but, my most vivid Sonic memory sprang not from the creative minds of the people behind the games or the comics (which were huge, weirdly enough), but from the twisted imagination of a thirteen year old customer of mine (record store) circa 1995...

His nickname was "Krull" and, before this day, Krull never seemed to be anything but a normal, everyday American kid. This day, however, Krull came in the store excited about a drawing he made.

In one corner of an otherwise blank piece of paper and colored with color pencils was a crude image of Sonic the Hedgehog, holding an equally crudely executed, bleeding severed penis and testicles, telling the reader to "Eat Your Yum-Yums!" I believe my response was "What the fuck is wrong with you?".

Well, to his credit, thanks to that little drawing, every time I think of Sonic the Hedgehog, I don't immediately think of the character shooting for rings, but rather goading me into potentially eating a presumably dead person's genitalia.

Now you must also live with this!

I don't... I don't see how one relates to the other. It's absolutely possible to enjoy Mania without thinking of that story. Trust me, in my lifelong career as a Sonic fan, I have seen, and been partially responsible for, some questionable content. Doesn't affect the games in my mind one bit.

They just went all out for the animations here. I love this game already.

Kinda surprised no one mentioned this Sonic fan project yet, Sonic Utopia. Doesn't look like much more than a tech demo, and the level design is overly large and more of a testing ground. But it does look quite promising for what it is, and the physics look really great.

Detailed sprite animations are always great to gawk over.
Also like how they're sort of re-imagining unused stages like dust hill zone. Wouldn't be surprised if we saw something like Wood Zone in the coming months. Good set pieces too. Using piano keys as bumpers is quite clever, while still fitting in with the old west/saloon theme.

Oh, and there's gameplay of solo Tails, solo Knuckles and Knuckles with Tails. No idea if Sonic & Knuckles is possible. Also couldn't find anything on an online co-op mode, though local is possible.
