That's thing I never like how the anime changed thing

Eh, like I said, the anime and PGSM are far more enjoyable then the manga. The changes are almost always justified.

Aren't manga and anime supposed to be different?

Not really when it comes to manga adaption normally they need to follow the manga plot full metal alchemist ened up getting two different anime serise due the first drifting away from the manga source where as brother hood was true faithful adaption

But wasn't the difference there was that the FMA manga was better then the anime? I've never seen either but from what I've gathered Brotherhood was born due to the anime having an unsatisfactory ending.

That was not the case for Sailor Moon. I really think its safe to say a faithful adaption of the manga would never have had such a big lasting effect on the anime world as Sailor Moon did. Deviating from the manga was a good decision on their part. It ended up both more enjoyable and more accessible and better for a weekly serial.

They didn't make the anime series different from the manga because they thought it would be better or successful. The manga just was behind writing-wise. When they made new anime episodes, the storyarcs in the manga weren't finished, so they had no choice but come up with their own stories for the anime version.

Yea that's whst I thought the was the same reason for dragon ball as well. So in some ways I'm happy crystal being manga faithful.

I think sailor moon was a monthly chapter realse manga. So instead of bi weekly each chapter came out each month

Sorry, but I didn't care for Sailor Naked in the last episode. There was simply no excuse for that, especially since she was barely 16. That is just gross.

I hate to tell you this, but when was the last time you watched the original Sailor Moon anime? I ask because it hasn't aged that well. It also doesn't help that the audio sounds like it came out of a garbage can these days.

Yesterday actually :) Just finished re-watching episodes 1-8.

The anime has aged incredibly well, I have absolutely no idea what your coming from besides giving up the actual discussion and trying to make a case through nitpicks.

In Japan, being naked isn't sexual. It represents purity and innocence.
So that "Sailor Naked" thing is justified.

In the end it's always Japan's positive outlook on nakedness vs western's negativity about nakedness.

I kind of prefer the former... not so much the latter. :(

Well, that's because America and Japan have different beliefs. Look past what you see and think of the meaning behind it. She wasn't naked for any sexual reason, it was to represent her innocence and purity.

As for the talk about the ending to Stars from earlier, to be fair, I have not read the manga since TokyoPop first finished it, so my mind is probably faulty in parts. I plan to reread it this summer sometime after I am done with Yu-Gi-Oh! since the whole series has been completed by Kodoncha.

And of course, compared to One Piece and Yu-Gi-Oh!, this manga is short.

I cannot wait for them! I hope they're a two pack or at least released on the same day. Having one without the other is weird, even if only for a short time. I still think the release order should've been Pluto then Uranus + Neptune then Saturn, but I'll take what I can get!

And yet scenes where Tuxedo Mask gets a nosebleed and lifts the skirts of 11 year olds are totally fine? Because that's the kind of crap that she put in the short stories. Pedos are so funny! The anime scene in question was not meant to be sexual in any way shape of form, the same cannot be said about those scenes in the manga.

I know this is a super late reply, but I was flicking through the short stories trying to remember if they were worth the purchase and those scenes caught me by surprise. Pedophile Mamoru was not worth my money.

EDIT: I think you found what you were referring to. But seriously, judging the quality of a manga by a bonus parody that has only 8 panels and has nothing to do with the actual canon? Besides, just because the guy said he was Tuxedo Kamen, it doesn't mean he is- either he's OOC, because it's a parody or, which is also likely as it happens often in the Manga, he was someone pretending to be Tuxedo Kamen. We can't even recognize exactly who he is because the facial features are simplified- but due to Chibiusa's reaction, it is pretty likely it isn't even Mamoru.

Judging a whole manga by a small comic-strip is pretty weak. If you don't have arguments to undermine your opinion of the manga being bad that do actually take place in the main storyline, you shouldn't wonder why people say that you are wrong.

Excuse me? I've been giving points throughout the entire debate to do with the main story, where the heck are you coming from? I was just pointing out that Dr. Kain's objection to Usagi's nakedness in the final battle is hypocritical compared to that scene in the manga.

And don't even bother trying jumping through loop holes; it was DEFINITELY Mamoru. Chibiusa says "Mamoru you're awful" and previously in the chapter Mamoru got a nose-bleed at the sight of these super sexy 11 year olds. Or was Usagi on a date with someone who might not have been Mamoru because of the art? Despite the fact that the main story also frequently changes to "chibified" if it suits to mood.

So your argument is "Yes, this official story had Mamoru getting a nose-bleed at the sight of 11 year olds and then later lifted the skirts of those said 11 Year olds but its totally OK because its position in canon is debatable". No, its still awful.

But yes, comparatively the manga is worse then the anime for the reasons I've detailed earlier including the confused story telling, the under developed or entirely undeveloped characters, the absolutely terrible action scenes and the characterisation of some characters, especially Princess Serenity and that the StarS arc was one long over complex, bleak, trying too hard to be dark, boring trudge. This was just an extra tidbit due to the "Naked Angel Usagi is SO WRONG" when the manga was fine with much worse.

Is the Manga awful? No. Is it necessarily bad? Not always. But compared to the anime, I think the anime's a clear winner. It had a far better grasp on its characters and, in my opinion, was far better at giving a satisfactory story outside of SuperS's fillers. That's why I'm hoping the new anime is not super accurate like has been claimed and instead does its own thing with the source material as the anime and PGSM did.

I have never watched Sailor Moon before, what can I expect from this new one?

If it is like the manga, no filler, lots of crap going on right from the get go.

I hope the Blu-rays are subbed as well as dubbed. I'm assuming they are.

Continuing my rereading of the manga and my rewatching of the anime, just ugh, sometimes the writing in the manga is just unacceptably awful.

-One chapter we have Usagi, in her bed. The Dark Kingdom make their move, so Tuxedo Mask arrives at Usagi's house, wakes her up and then the two go to the bad guys together.
-Next chapter (different battle), Tuxedo Mask tells Usagi to transform. "OMG TUXEDO MASK KNOWS I'M SAILOR MOON!?"
... Ugh. I refuse to believe that the editors didn't pick this up.

The ending of the Dark Kingdom arc is still absolutely awful though. How can Usagi be so brave and strong when her reaction to any hump in the road is suicide? The scene where the other soldiers are crying over Usagi stabbing herself is just awful. Awful. But then, once Usagi is saved, its never mentioned again. Such a great hero to doom the planet and only save it because her suicide attempt failed.

I'm hoping the manga series improves during R and through to SuperS. I remember hating the Sailor Stars manga version, but we'll see if I prefer the middle sections. I can't remember much about the manga version of S and especially SuperS.

I'm still enjoying the anime though. I love Mamoru before they discover their pasts. Its so sad that becoming Usagi's boyfriend all but obliterated his personality.
