To give you an idea of what he is like this is him starting persona 4.

So I feel like it's time for me to buckle down and buy a 3DS. I still haven't played any of the Devil Survivor games or Soul Hackers. I'm also starting a playthrough of Kyuuyaku Megami Tensei. It's the SNES remake of the original Megami Tensei I & II and it recently got a translation last fall.
My initial impressions are really positive. It plays almost identically to SMT I and the dungeon music is pretty upbeat in this first area. |
Kinda Funny Games just uploaded this interview with Erin Fitzgerald (the voice of Chie in P4G), and just a discussion of the game in general. Hope you guys like it!

I am so confused as to why fans are expecting Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem to suck because it looks like weaboo shit when the game is being made by Atlus and Nintendo.

Also I find it a bit silly to judge how good or bad a game is when they don't haven;t played the game themselves. |
Quote:
And I agree with you. For Pete's sake, it's being made by Atlus and Nintendo. The two hardly put out bad content. |
Quote:
Of course there is always the problem of it going wrong but no ones know that of course we don't fully know it will be good but I find it good to look over the details of the trailer see what cool stuff I can find instead of "This sucks" from these people who just want to complain. |
they're people who will write off every SMT game that doesn't have Kaneko doing all the art.
trust me, the old school fans are the most fair weather I have ever seen. |
Quote:
I see that is an issue for this and while I can understand that may be a turning off point the artstyle used here is a good and I would bring up the point of not having the game to judge but I made that previously already. In short, there are people who will not even try games because of looks. |

The actual reveal however showed a game that fused ideas from both worlds, yet looked like neither, it seems interesting for sure, but for those who hoped for grid based combat/demon negotiation/etc. it came out of nowhere. It's definitely an overreaction, you can't really judge much from such a short trailer, but the shock was real and people have exploded in the past for lesser reasons. Quote:

I'm all for the old and new stuff, but I feel the old school fans need to get the stick out of their ass for a lot of things. the current team have proved they aren't afraid to tap into the charm the old games had (several remakes of the old school games and SMT4 having that classic feel to it, not to mention some amazing art). I don't even hate Kaneko's art, I just shit on it to shake the pedestal people put him on. and don't get me started on how people are so obsessed with shit like the boobs in Devil Survivor. lemme say this to start, if one of your major complaints about a video game series is how boobs are drawn, TO THE POINT WHERE GRAPHS ARE MADE, I'm sorry, but ease the fuck up. |

I for one miss having a 6 man party in the Main line games since both SMT I and II do interesting things with that party size. It's not something I noticed my first time through SJ, but once I saw how the Law and Chaos aligned characters were actual party members and not these FF III esque attachments to the party it made me realize why I felt the interactions with characters like Jiminez/Zelenin in SJ, and Walter/Johnathan in IV seemed lacking. Leaving fans to stew on that trailer for a couple of years didn't help either. Quote:
There's also the comparisons between the visual styles of the game and the Persona series. For people expecting similar visuals to the mainline SMT games (somewhere between cyberpunk and gothic horror) having a title set in yet another high school is a slap in the face. I'll still play it, but until I can see something more about the gameplay it's the kind of game I'll wait for someone I know to get before I play it. |
you don't need to post the graph. the graph stuff is on a different thing than art rants.
and again, I don't hate the old school stuff. I love the P2 series. I feel they improve everything I hate about P1. the characters look great and more unique from each other, the battle system is VASTLY improved, the layouts of the areas you're in don't have this weird background void (which always felt depressing even when you were in a happy place like that pharmacy in P1). you even mentioned how Kaneko's art style has lifeless human characters, the best way you can compare these is look at the PS1 version of Eternal Punishment, then look at the PSP version of Innocent Sin, the characters have pigmentation and look alive. I love the remakes of P2, and I hope we get the other half of those. also, I will say Soejima can do some symbolic designs when he wants to, my main point for that argument being Izanagi. |

-------------- And I rib on people who diss P1 just to mess with them but honestly I'm playing through Revelations: Persona (not the PSP version) and my goodness is this game a Playstation One RPG. It's really dated and aside from the more atmospheric music the PSP version is proving to be the superior version. If only for speeding up the movement speed in dungeons and giving better indication of character attack ranges. |

Though for all we know, it could be implemented another way, just not as the core of combat. Quote:

But the novels that began te franchise had a high school setting anyways, and many of the protagonists have been young, it's not necessarily persona exclusive. Quote:
B) WHAT!? WHY!? |
So much text to respond to here, so I am going to respond to the graph.
Some people have too much time on their hands. |

P3 and P4 are very much in love with high school drama and living out that sort of life. And when I think of Persona and how it may have influenced the current setting for SMTxFE I'm expecting more high school drama. I want to be wrong though. Quote:

here's a video that Rescue the Princess made about P4's story.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCpspQT8xpY a really good watch if you want to find out more about what P4 does than what most people try to describe. and it's a breath of fresh air compared to a lot of old school SMT fans shrugging it off and saying "hurrdurr, high school dating simulator" |
So I saw this on Greg Miller's twitter. A custom Persona 4 monopoly board!

I don't mind it, nor would I pay/play her, this is obviously a cash cow for Sega... But I don't see why it's such a big deal of hate. Unless you just seriously hate the vocaloid and all vocaloid stuff in general... then... well ok.
I mean shoot it's not like she's in directly involve with Persona 4 story. |
