Yeah, back in the day mostly american original toku didn't work well because PR was more popular but now, is more likely to work in these days.

None was able to top Tattooed Teenage Alien Fighters from Beverly Hills. That was the peak of American Tokusatsu. :lolol

Is there a specific service which streams classic Godzilla? Will the upcoming HBO Max have classic Toho Godzilla?

I doubt it with Criterion owning the Showa movies. Sony still has the Godzilla movies from 1991-2004 and you can easily find them cheap as dirt.

I asked that question partly because I thought I had read something to the effect once. None of the more recent library lists for HBO Max confirm it, but there are at least one or two accounts which suggest that the Showa-Era Godzilla films by way of Criterion will be available, though exactly which I cannot say!

Should Hasbro make their own tokusatsu than PR ?

Saban did, and it turned out pretty good, so I don't see why not. Especially since BM shows that Hasbro has far more budget for such things.

Not sure where else to ask this, so I'll do it here.

I haven't really seen any threads where people discuss Toku anime at length, which I find a shame, because a couple of them are some of my favorite anime of all time.

So, would anyone be down for a thread similar to what Die and Fish do, but for Toku anime specifically? I'm not exactly great with words, but I figure I could give it a shot, maybe show atleast one person why it's worth checking other stuff out than the "Holy Trinity" of Toku, so to speak.

Or, nah, should I just keep that stuff in the "Other Toku You're Watching" thread, if we even have one of those?

Yeah, I don't mind posting in the megathreads, but it'd be neat to have more specialized threads to read and post in, especially for older shows (it doesn't even have to follow the 'User X Watches Show A' template, it can just be 'Show A Thoughts & Opinion'. Just saying).

Go for it, but I'd call it "toku-inspired" anime. Otherwise it's going to get bogged down by definitions and semantics.

Oh, I have a bunch that I could talk about really. Ones I've watched like a billion times, ones I've only seen once, and some I've been meaning to watch but haven't had the time.

What would you guys find most interesting? Part of me wants to just put 'em on a list and throw them into Random.org to decide, haha.

Probably more because of my experience. IIRC a place I've been forbids posting a separate threads even if they're detailed. It feels like you're an attention whore to post your own threads for an already established one, showing off your "superior" insights to others and trying to make own threads just so it's known to others.

I agree like I said, older shows are so obscure, not as much as Showa but it's painfully lacking to get to know them on the Internet (apart from Yusuke, and to a lesser extent Ichijou, almost no infos regarding Kuuga are talked about, despite how loved the series is). What I want is for people to complete the pages for older series more, on par with the new ones, like pages such as TVTropes' KR series.

Part of me legitimately worried that Kuuga thread would come off like that! I actually prefer just using the "What are you watching?" threads, but, on top of mirroring what Die does, there are two main things that would push me to make a dedicated thread like that:

- Like Kurona said, they get very in-depth, and after things hit a certain length, I think the massive blocks of text every few posts in one of the bigger threads becomes more of a disruption than having "too many" threads would be.

- In the general threads, I try (not always super successfully) to avoid spoilers to whatever extent I can, because I used to be a huge spoilerphobe myself, and like to respect anyone else in that position. Being able to lay out my policy on that upfront frees me up to go more in-depth and frees anyone reading the thread from having a major revelation dropped on them out of context because "everyone knows that." This point holds extra weight for Die's threads specifically, because having that controlled environment protects him from spoilers too.

But at the end of the day, it really does come down to "Why not?" This is a really nice forum. In my experience, threads around here don't get policed for "significance" that often.

So to those who saw the two Tomica Hero Rescue shows, Rescue Force and Rescue Fire, which do you think was better? For those not aware, Tomica Hero Rescue Force and Rescue Fire were shows that aired a while back created by the same studio behind Ryukendo, Shochiku. It was centered mostly on rescue activities with some combat as well. It was also where most of us were introduced to the man, myth, legend Hiroaki Iwanaga aka Date-san of Kamen Rider OOO and the current Shaider. And some argue that the CGI was probably better than Super Sentai and Kamen Rider combined.

I'm pretty sure we had pinned *Insert series* rewatch threads before you joined, but they just fell by the wayside probably do to lack of interest.

I hate to be the negative one but I'm afraid I have to say I prefer Ryukendo to either Tomica Hero show, Ryukendo was just really fun to watch whereas Tomica Heroes were just a bit of a chore IMO. I suppose if I had to choose then maybe Rescue Force being as what I saw of Rescue Fire had the more annoying characters in my book. The songs were of course still great though. It may be an uncommon opinion, I don't know, but I would have preferred some sort of ''Madan Senki'' franchise!

The postmodernism of Flamenco and Concrete Revolutio would make for very interesting discussion, but I'm also curious about classics like Casshern and Tekkaman. Yeah, too many fascinating options out there, so just go with whatever you want to talk about the most at the moment! I'd probably try to find to some time to watch/rewatch along, whatever it is.

Real reason is because of the sales. They expected to make 4 billion yen but made only 2 billion despite the show being well-received. Fun fact, if the Rescue Force movie is of any indication, Ryukendo and the Tomica Hero shows share the same universe. You will know what I mean when you see the movie. Also Hiroshi Fujioka aka Mr. Kamen Rider Ichigo himself plays Reiji Osakabe, the highest ranking member of the organization that Rescue Force AND Rescue Fire are part of and is R0. He is seen in the Rescue Force movie and certain episodes of Rescue Fire.

This peaks my interest. Zeiram is something that's been on my radar for awhile as a Keita Amemiya fan.

What is Zeiram anyway? It's not something that comes up often.

I don't know a lot about it, but it's about a bounty hunter from space who comes to Earth hunting a monster. There was also an anime spin-off called Iria: Zeiram the Animation.

"Monster-Hunting-Bounty-Hunter" sounds an awful lot like Bangray from Zyuohger :lol !

Zeiram 2 has been available (on DVD at least) for a while now, I bought it in like 2005-6 in a Keita Amemiya 3 pack including the Hakaider movie and Moon over Tao, 3 great Toku movies.

It's a Sci-Fi Horror movie that is directed by Keita Amemiya. It was popular with Toku fans, horror movie fans, and sci-fi movie fans. Sadly, it has faded into obscurity. It's worth checking out. I remember Fangoria (I think) said that the movie is like if John Carpenter directed Power Rangers.

Which is funny considering Amemiya participated in Zyuranger as a director for a couple of the episodes. :lolol

Hey question for you all, is Metalder related to kikaider? and how would you say metalder executes on the themes it has/shares with kikaider?

Metalder is heavily inspired by Kikaider, and as such borrows a lot of stuff from it. You really could get away with calling it the 80s version of Kikaider. That's not to say the shows are the exact same by any means, but the influence is undeniable, nor did they at all seem ashamed by it. I overall liked it.

I think I'll try to give it a watch, especially before I watch the Kikaider anime (also sub or dub for that btw)

Go for it dude. And you can go either way when it comes to the anime. I personally prefer the dub, but many would say the sub is just as good. It's a personal preference type of deal.

But yeah, if you do watch The Animation, feel free to post in the thread and give us your overall thoughts on it. There's no timelimit. (although now that i think about it i should probably state that in the opening post)

If someday Toei decides to make new Metal Heroes, i wish they make new MH based on Machineman and the Bycrosser.

A spiritual successor seems like the appropriate term. Fun fact, while the color placement of red and blue is identical, Metalder's incomplete parts are blue while the completed parts of his body are red, a polar opposite when compared to Kikaider.
