Why didn't they let PLEX do the design work?
Why didn't they let PLEX do the design work? WHY DIDN'T THEY LET PLEX DO THE DESIGN WORK??? |

it looks ok It looks better than the majority of the Zyohger mech but I feel like it's trying to be Grim and Bleak like HOLLYWOOD IT'S OK TO PUT COLOR ON ACTION MOVIES OTHER THAN TRANSFORMERS(which are so bad they're good movies) AND MARVEL
|
honestly this looks more like a batilizer or a Kamen Rider upgrade than it does an actual mech I am going to joke that this is going to be Ex-Aid's final form

God, the design's growing on me. From the glimpses I got the bigger version has more color at least. All I still want are images of the actual megazord in the movie, not the toy versions.
|
WOW First off they are going for a new look when it comes to the Megazord second Remember the Mighty Morphan Power Rangers Movie Ninja Megazord http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OOmceU8Hhb...50381864_n.jpg you know how UGLY THAT WAS compared to the TV Shows what they are trying to do is create something new and different that will look good in CGI but at the same time trying to kept the sprite of Power Rangers alive So FANBOYS Shut the F up This is a different Power Rangers Movie all to gather this is not the 90s we grown up on I personally like it its a nice update plus they are trying something different then going back to the original design
|
I love how "They're trying something different!" is the new go-to defense when it comes to Hollywood making shitty redesigns of things. You know they can try something new an not be shitty, right? Power Rangers tried something new with the Megazords year after year and they weren't terrible.
Also, if they were really trying to be different, why reboot MMPR? Why have the same names for the rangers, bring back Zordon Rita and Alpha, have the same animals and power coins? Clearly they're not all that keen on actually being different, otherwise they would've just made it a brand new series like PR always does. So yeah, the criticisms of this atrocious design are all still valid. |

How many 100% American original Megazords have actually been good? That in no way disproves your opinion of this design, and I don't mean it to. It's just something worth bringing up, I think. |
Um yeah... How can Saban allow this? That THING looks like an evil robot more than a megazord.

Alright, finally made an account!
Anyway just wanted to say that I really like the Megazord! I haven't liked any of the movie designs so far (well the morpher is okay) and I tend to really dislike hollywood redesigns, but this I really dig! I find the design itself ascetically pleasing, I think the concept is pretty interesting with it basically being a giant ranger and it makes it feel very "Power Rangers" and certainly Tokusatsu even if it isn't what you'd expect from a "zord", and although I can compare it to things if I think about it it doesn't immediately make me think of anything or come across as just piggybacking on popular hollywood trends the way the suits did for me. Only things I would change is the pointless detailing/groves 'n stuff on the chest and knees/feet ect. and that it definitely needs more Blue and black. And maybe something that lends at least a little bit more to the prehistoric theme, all it's got going for as is is that the midsection vaguely resembles a fur pelt and that that the leg cockpits are claws(and I guess the "scales" and feet are supposed to be dinosaurish?). But overall two thumbs up, vastly better than I was expecting. I think it helps a bunch that it has that wire mesh spandex going on because that prevents them from putting ugly pointless protrusions and the like over most of the body. I'm not gonna go saying "how dare you not like this design" and I can easily see why it wouldn't be what a lot of people were wanting, but I really can't agree with the severity of the negative reaction it's been getting. Ok I just want to say one thing that's been touched on but never been directly said this is a toy by BANDAI OF AMERICA and they are going to cut costs wherever they can like paint apps for example that being said I don't hate the design I hate the toy. I've never been a big fan of a non combining mech figure unless it at the 5 to 7 inch scale. With all that being said I will definitely get the big one and wait for the official movie image of the megazord which hope will be with a trailer some time soon

Trying to keep the spirit of Power Rangers alive? By removing everything that makes it recognizable as the Megazord or even a robot? Compare this to the rebooted Voltron design: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-w...29/voltron.jpg or heck even Bayformer Optimus: http://livedoor.blogimg.jp/henshinhe...4/0490bf33.jpg Both are updated and in the case of Optimus radically redesigned but are still recognizable as the characters they're supposed to be. |

TLDR: You can criticize it all you want, but complaining about a reboot using old things from the thing it's rebooting is dumb |
Quote:
But yes, it is ultimately SS that's come up with the new designs. (leaving PR at the mercy of whatever goofy gimmick they come up with, whether it translates to Western audiences or not :lol) Quote:

This is where context is a very important thing. You just ran off a huge rant on me without realising that that I only "criticised" the use of old concepts in response to someone saying that this was supposed to be a new take of PR. I then gave examples all all the things that aren't new. I was not saying at all that referencing MMPR was a bad thing, but that you then can't say this is a totally new iteration of PR if it takes so much from MMPR specifically. So yeah, you look a bit foolish. :lol |

I'm perfectly fine with "new takes". This thing could have looked absolutely nothing like Daizyujin and still turned out brilliantly. But not only does it look like a mess, but it doesn't even look like a combining robot. The huge difference between the combining toy (or hell, the t-rex alone if you haven't seen that pic) and this one revealed illustrates that.
That needed to be the one thing they got right when doing this, and it doesn't even look like they managed that. |
I agree with Zeo here. Just because it's a new take does not mean it needs to be not even remotely accurate to the source material. What's the point of making a Power Rangers movie if it isn't going to even feel like Power Rangers? Hell, the new Ninja Turtles movies might be bad to awful, but they at least felt like Ninja Turtles.
Regardless of what you think of the Marvel Cinematic Universe at this point, all of the movies still feel like their comic counterparts. This feels more like, "Hey, we're going to take the name of a hugely success brand and put its title over a movie that has nothing to do with that brand, but we'll pretend its that brand." |
Example: For all the abuse ROTF Devastator gets at least I can tell that's made up of six construction vehicles. I can barely make out 5 dinosaurs here.
|
Those weren't the argument though. The argument was 'If you want a new spin on things, why reuse the characters and change other things?' This megazord CLEARLY is absolute wank when it comes to being a combination of vehicles, but as a giant robot it looks pretty nifty. Just not the right style

"New take" implie sit is taking the original and making it new. But this didn't take anything from the original. It is an entirely different thing, not even vaguely resembling the original. Quote:

This literally looks like a guy in a suit with doofy wings stuck on the back. Quote:
My counter-arguement was "you can't claim this is a new and different take on it when it takes so much from MMPR specifically." Quote:
It doesn't look like a robot at all, it looks like a guy in a bodysuit. |
Quote:
EDIT: Didn't notice your second point about the mech. Dude, this whole site is dedicated to fans of franchises in which spandex is good armour and literally everyone worth their salt in a fight is in a suit |
I'm trying hard to be positive about this movie. I like the weapons, I liked the zord teaser shots they released with their respective actors/rangers sitting on their respective zords. I was even okay with the strange organic suits they decided to go with. But this.. What the actual f-bomb am I supposed to do with this? I realize it's just the interactive toy, but I saw the photos we can't post here too and I'm having real trouble trying to see how five dinosaurs become that. And my real overwhelming thought? "Oh, I didn't know Power Rangers was a sequel to Pacific Rim. I hope he combines with Gypsy Danger!"
It's not a bad looking mech. It's sleek, it's stylized. Just absolutely nothing in that picture says Power Rangers. And it should. You should look at that and instantly go "Yea, I see what they were doing. Going for something new, keeping in some of the old." Not "What is that from?" |
Quote:
My point is, the Megazord seems like far more a radical departure than anything else in the movie. When so much is directly taken from MMPR, the Megazord being so out there and un-Megazord-y, on top of looking awful, sticks out. |
Quote:
In that case all criticisms are valid, even if I like the design |
I not making judgement over toy of a design that did not translate well for being a toy I'll wait to see proper in film CGI.model then toy.

This is such a bummer. Thus could've really been something cool.
Well, it is cool looking but it absolutely looks NOTHING like a megazord. I don't understand why they feel the need to drastically change things. I understand improvements, I can totally get behind that. But change for the sake of change is just annoying. |
I like the design.

It's a fuckin' discussion, dude. I only respond to people who either directly reply to me, or address "haters" in general. I'm not pouncing on people who just say "I like it" or stuff like that. Quote:
Classy. 'Least I haven't done that. Also, holy shit can anything I have even said so far be called any of that? "Hate spewing." I think it's a bad design and I'm not happy with how it turned out. That's "hate spewing?" Quote:
