Oh hey haven't commented on the mecha yet. Kept meaning to.

While the orbs are a little distracting (mostly in the legs, it kind of works in the other body parts) I still really like the look of these. It's a vast improvement over the last two years for my tastes at any rate.

Been years since I watched Sentai beyond a couple of episodes, and with Rider having lost me this year... I genuinely want to give this a chance so I'll be tuning into the first few episodes for sure. Don't want to be completely toku-less for a year.

I'd watch that as a sentai show :D

Jut wondering but reading this thread it seems having 9 characters is pretty huge. But didnt we get that with which had 10 Zyudenryu in Kyoryuger?

That was 10 rangers little by little throughout the show. This is 9 right off the bat, plus, we're getting more, assuming the show follows the usual "introduce a new ranger later."

See i dont think kyuu here is in reference to 9 i think it is more globe or sphere given the kyuutamas and kyurenoh being ballzy and the fact there are 9 or kyuu rangers. With that the kyuutamas are either translated as orb or globe spirits. I just keep seeing 9ranger and im just not convinced the 9 is the theme over the more prevelant globe/sphere theme.

Are you guys worried that having 9 man Sentai can affect the show's format?

I means those 9 Ranger will be the main Characters but it would require Toei and The Writers give each 9 Ranger their own personality and tried to give their own Episode since Super Sentai is usually episodic than Kamen Rider

And plus why they give everything to Red Ranger when you has 8 other Ranger you could give to beside Red one

Really? You're not convinced that a team called Kyuranger, which literally means 9-Ranger and is applied to a team that has nine members from the start for the first time in franchise history, is a reference to the number nine? Really???

Right, and the cuteness of the wordplay vanishes when you remove the "Kyu = both 9 and sphere" pun.

I'm not saying there won't be extra heroes, I just doubt they'll be full-fledged Kyurangers, if only to preserve Toei's predilection for puns.

I mostly just think it's funny/annoying that people can't take a minute to appreciate this crazy initial lineup. Instead of pondering the implications of nine rangers (an astronomical number of heroes to whom the writers will need to attend), they immediately want to know "what's up with the sixth (by which I actually mean 10th, but our fandom has a really strange way of numbering heroes)?" It's just like, this constant gnawing void that can't be satiated for more than a few days before craving more. :lol

Well to be fair it's easy to be curious when there's usually such a strict formula. Bandai likes to have a new changer, weapon, and mecha come summer (or late spring if the mood strikes them).

Now that you mention it, a Signalman-esque character seems the most likely. Or they could just double down on super modes or something. This season is looking crazy enough I wouldn't put it past them.

Yea, I'm stoked to have nine members and what this will mean for this season. Hopefully they'll be able to give each of the members a good amount of focus and character development.

The word super mode reminded me of Saint Seiya.
I would not mind a bangai hero like Signalman since this particular season obviously has 9 rangers to start and looks to be that way. Same foe different motives approach would be nice.

That's what I'd anticipate too. A Bull Black-style "same foe, different motives/approach" bangai hero would be very cool as well.

But I think it's gonna be very hard to make any definite predictions based on precedent because there's just no precedent for a 9-hero team.

For once I'm thrilled by the potential of the unknown here. :lol

Better than the building blocks of this year. More thematic than the kitchen sink of Ninninger. I like ToQger's mecha better, though, since it was more traditional, harking back to the 80's. This seems like a 2000's throwback...which is still not far enough for me, personally.

Yes we have not gotten a new Sentai figuart in two years now.

From the looks of it star wars is selling much better than Sentai was sadly.

From what i could see from the clearer image, Blue has fur around his neck. Could be another Doggie Kruger type character.

And holy mother, i'm loving Black's suit.

Nice! I'm not entirely sold on the stumpy-limbed Robo, but the character suits look pretty sweet. The half-tabard things on the torso make a neat bit of change from simple spandex. This is the first time since I got into Toku that I've been excited about a new Sentai series prior to it airing (though I did have to eat my initial impressions of ToQger because I ended up enjoying that). Bring on the new stuff!

The few bits of story details in the catalog images suggest that Earth has been taken over by another alien force & the KyuRangers are coming to save it and/or acting as a resistance force on-planet.

Also seems to suggest that some, if not all, of the KyuRangers are also aliens.

Adding to the above, it says that they have been selected by the kyutamas to be "saviors".
Also, it seems 2017 is when we see lips on the helmets again Ohranger style.

Story:

All of space has been taken over by an evil lifeform. The nine supreme saviors (kyuunin no kyuukyoku no kyuuseishu) will step forward to fight this evil.

I wonder how much grim dark this show will be based on the basic plot alone.

Also, good eye to whoever called the "starfield visor." I was skeptical, but it's true, and I'm pretty freaking excited to have been wrong. :lol

I like how there's a nice little feature on each of their suits which distinguish them from each other.

Silver has scales on his hips. Pink has wings. Gold has those bolts thingies, made me wonder if he's a robot.

Yeah, I'm thinking Gold is definitely a robot. Jason Bischoff from Saban Brands tweeted a few cryptic teases about Kyuuranger, and one was "Head-to-toe "metal" hero."

The others were "Lips, Fangs, Wings."

That's what I was thinking. Either OokamiBlue or possibly HebitsukaiSilver, since Silver appears to be a snake/snakeman alien.

Maybe one (or both) has fangs as part of their molded helmet lips?

Either way, I freaking love OokamiBlue's helmet -- it's one of the goofiest/coolest things I've ever seen.

ChameleonGreen's helmet is super adorable, too.

I thought Saban only dealt with the Power Rangers stuff. Does this mean that this series will be used for Power Rangers?

AFAIK, Saban is privy to all of the pre-release info for every new series. This doesn't suggest at all that it's gonna be the next Power Rangers.

Hey I was right about the visors having a starfield effect on them. Looks great in HQ. Really digging how almost each ranger has something to separate them, but they still look uniform. These are gorgeous.

The voyagers look cool too, but red being a spaceship and a lion kinda hurt it. I hope it does some kinda of transforming, and isn't just tilt right side up and attach limbs. I do wonder what this means for mecha moving forward. More limbs I'm sure, but I'm also envisioning a larger voyager that this one can fit into or something. I just hope the way the KyuTama are used is consistent. They struggled with this since Go-Onger really.

I'm noticing that the KyuTama in the mechs are doubling as cockpits, and they're in different parts of the body.

Is this gonna be a Sentai without a full-team cockpit in the gattai form? It's been a while since we've had one of those.
