Cut down on Kamen Rider toys for the sake of story? *Laughs like a mad man* In all honestly though, I wouldn't be surprised if even suggesting something like that after the hell he no doubt puts them through at least once during every show he works on seems like reason enough to fire him on the spot.

I have no real idea what to expect but, I have a suspicion we will be getting some sort of cyborg. The gears and the potential of building lend to this being a possible direction. Of course, this would be somewhat dark (the Showa Riders are all pretty tragic, really) - but we've had a bleak show about fruit and soft drink samurai so...

We also had a fairly lighthearted show right before that about a wizard who got his powers from some crazy ritual sacrifice in which dozens of people died. Having dark elements isn't the same as actually being dark. Ex-Aid may have "killed" off a main character 12 episodes in, and it can take itself seriously, but the show as a whole is hardly brooding, you know? It's full of over the top gags and goofy neon visuals.

They could easily give us another cyborg (and frankly I think we're long overdue) while still maintaining an upbeat atmosphere.

Yep. I mean technically the Ex-Aid riders are cyborgs with their aptitude surgeries and all but it does not have the weight Showa era riders had.

The aptitude surgery is just an antibody to the Bugster Virus, not any sort of cybernetic augmentation.

Regardless, I do think a cyborg rider is long overdue.

That can't be true - Kamen Riders are the heroes who are enhanced by their modifications. What is there to be offended by? I could see some in America whining as we tend to bellyache over freaking everything but, Japan? Naaah.

That...is really not how the series generally approached these things. The modifications were always treated as signifying a loss of humanity. It signified a transformation into something unnatural and monstrous that prevented them from ever living normal lives again. It was really never a "yay, i'm a cyborg now!" kind of deal (except maybe for Skyrider, who didn't give a shit, and Super-1, who chose the operation himself for a good purpose, but it is generally true for the original riders).

In that case it's not that cyborgs are a bad idea, but rather that the message around it needs to be changed for the sake of the modern era. In this case, I can imagine the show having a subtle "Hey disabled people! You're still people" message or something

Which is all the more reason I want another cyborg Rider. It's super easy! Just have the premise be that, in response to whatever monsters start wrecking up Japan that week, the protagonist chooses to undergo some kind of dangerous, experimental surgery to become the only thing capable of fighting back.

That way the tone can be optimistic, and if you want, you can still squeeze existential drama out of the situation by having a running subplot about the public at large finding them to be some kind of freak, only to of course come around in the end.

But now I'm just pitching fan-fiction. The point is I'd love for them to do a nice, back to basics Showa throwback after the madness of Ex-Aid.

We still have Cyborg theme superheros in Japan like Cyborg 009. So I find it hard to believe that we can't have a superhero theme superhero.

If those rumors aren't true, I suspect we may see a secondary Rider called Kamen Rider Gear, mostly since Toei has a hard time resisting English wordplay, and it'd fit what little iconography we know about.

Yeaah, I realize that Stenchy - that's why in an earlier post I said that Showa Riders were tragic. I think if this rumor become true, Kamen Rider Build Series will be like Kamen Rider Double Series because has earth concept and has various motifs and themes in one series.

Painter Rider as secondary Rider should be interesting and I really want secondary Rider as true hero not as antihero because most of secondary Rider are antihero (usually at beginning).

Build, paint, plant/garden. All acts of creation. If this is true I assume we will have a high rank villain with a god complex somewhere along the way. Heck would not be surprised if there is a chef rider as well.

You know what would be really cool? An anti-hero Primary Rider. I doubt that would happen since kids like bright, cheerful main characters and Anti-hero tend to be quite unlikable, at least at first, but damn has it been a long time since we've had a jerk main rider. Decade/Kabuto 3.0 anyone?

Yeah..I also really want Anti Hero protagonist Rider. I felt I miss badass Kabuto and Decade's fighting style. Hmm..I must re-watch Kabuto and Decade again.......

Well, Build has definitely started filming as this week's Ex-Aid looked pretty sparse compared to the psychedelic overload of a typical episode.

When I translated what it said on trademark bot's account it said "It has been clarified from the publicly trademark bulletin that Toei Corporation has applied for trademark registration "Kamen Rider BUILD". Application number is 2017-67871 to 2017-67892."

I think build might be hobby themes although art might cover it as well. Build himself is based on modeling. What gives me the idea is his antenna. The one on the right is a screw driver the other one has a bit of a odd shape but then I remember my hobby files. I cant seem to get a image to post of some but I have a file that matches the shape of Build's antenna. So the theme could be art based, but hobby, or creative based. If Roots is one of the secondary riders I hope he has a bonzi theme as it could be considered the most active form of gardening. The belt being the wolrd driver is the only thing that has me stumped unless there is some sort of echo/recycling theme blinded in sot of like how ex-aid is doctors using videogames to fight a virus these riders could be scientist fighting pollution and trash with creative hobbies and recyclables? The more I look at that statement the stranger is seems but at the same time, the more strange it looks the more likely it seems to be right.

Wasn't there a pattern, at least in post-Decade seasons, of alternating between sci-fi and fantasy sources for the monsters and Rider powers? W had data, OOO had alchemy, Fourze had alien technology, Wizard had literal magic. Gaim sort of broke the pattern by having both interdimensional travel and weird Biblical stuff about the Forbidden Fruit, but then the next three returned to form with Drive having machines and AIs, Ghost having ghosts (duh) and Ex-Aid having video games and computer viruses. So if the pattern continues, I'd expect Build to have some kind of magic or mysticism as his power source.

I always thought the Plamonsters from Wizard was a good idea for a rider on its own. A rider that gets its armor on a plastic runner type thing would be so dope. Never saw Build Fighters so I can't relate it to that, but this is sounding good.

Wow... That is oblique, yet retro and toyetic to the extreme. Similar to Ex-Aid in that it trades in nostalgia, too. Like most Heisei Riders, it sounds incredibly absurd; let's keep our fingers crossed for a quality writing team.
