Not really. Second Generation (also translated as 'Phase Two') is what the Japanese call the Kamen Rider shows from W onwards. So '2nd-Generation-based' means he is based on the Riders from W-Build, like Decade was for Kuuga-Kiva.

Any hints as to when Zi-O will start and how many episodes Build will have?

If Build Final episode in episode 48, I think Zi-O will be aired in September.

Here are the rough translations of the spposed form names above and what they are referring to:

Ichigou x Kuuga: The Activation Form(Japan tends to pronounce THE as ZA, Sa- seems like just mere bad translation). This name makes sense cause this probably is the default form and consists of the first riders who kickstarted their respective eras.
Build x Decade: Create Destroy Form. A good contrast of Build who builds, and Decade who destroys.
Ex-Aid x Faiz: Latest Technology Form. It reflects how they are riders using hi-tech gear to fight evil.
Ghost x Kiva: Enigma Form. Probably named like this to reflect the esoteric nature of their motifs, a ghost and a vampire respectively.
Drive x Kabuto: High Speed Form. Them suckers are fast. :lolol
Gaim x Blade: "Noble-like" Form. Makes sense if you consider their final forms. One is a samurai warlord and the other a king.
Wizard x Ryuki: Flame Form. They do have a fire element aspect so makes sense I guess. Surprised they did not go with something like Double Dragon since both are dragon motif riders as well.
Fourze x Hibiki: Teacher Form. Both riders are teachers. Hibiki throughout the show, Fourze after the show.
OOO x Den-O: Geared Motor Unit Form. Maybe how the O medals are aligned like gears + train mechanics reference.
W x Agito: Shining Memory Form. Reference to Agito's light aspect and W's gaia memories.
Ne-O Amazons X Omega: Kill Form. Given their primal aspect makes sense.


And if this rumor is correct the gimmick items for the season will be chess pieces.

The Ippan in Ippan Driver means general or generic just so people do not confuse it with the military rank.

If the new gimmick are chess pieces I think that's pretty cool it has a Nintendo aiimiibo thing going on

Not gonna lie, Kamen Rider chess pieces that fuse like Ultraman doesn't sound very appealing.

Also, one thing that does seem to be a little fake is having a second driver in the first quarter. We've gotten small transformation devices accompanying belts before, but not two belts in the first quarter.


I also heard that on 4chan someone stated that the gimmick might be sticker-based.

If there is one thing I think we can narrow down is that the gimmicks will consist of the powers of two riders that are bundled together under a certain theme. Whatever the end result is, looking forward to this.

Dragonic having Kiva makes me doubt this a lot cause Kiva's not Castle Doran and Agito wasn't really a dragon either imo

Agito is based on a Dragon, that's not arguable.
Kiva, though...is a bat, not a Dragon. Unless they're referring to Tatsulot and Emperor Form, perhaps.

I can see Agito being considered for a draconic combo because Toei has been saying he has a dragon motif ever since, despite not looking as draconic compared to Ryuki, Den-O Gun Form, and Wizard's Dragon forms(heck even Shoichi/Agito's actor thought Agito's motif was a stag beetle like Kuuga a long time ago on some variety show in Japan:lolol). But yeah, the closest Kiva gets to Dragons is that flight mode where he changes into a wyvern, and Castle Dran which seem a bit far-fetched.

One question I have, though, is how good will Zi-O's budget be? From what I've heard, Build's toys are selling well, but the television ratings aren't soaring.

That rumor sounds somewhat cool, but a few things seem pretty fake.

For one, wasn't there a rumor about a "Speed Custom" and other "Custom" forms for Build last year? It seems weird that it pops up again (kind of) with Engine/Create/Trace Custom.

Fairly high, I imagine, unless a project like Amazons cuts into it. I imagine it'll be average with Build's.

The TV ratings are definitely abysmal, but toy sales are at an all-time high, and there is evidence that Japan finally getting catch-up streaming recently is being used so kids can watch, say, Dragon Ball on the day, and Kamen Rider later.

Usually when they want to hide what something is they do the circle. I know Build's silhouette had the bottles but I think Ex-Aid's had the circle too

These release in early August, and the gimmick item appears to light up or something, based on the price.

Also...like how that orb is likely a placeholder, I bet that silhouette is, too.

The silhouette really feels Kamen Rider Meteor-ish.

Remove the blue thing on his shoulder/chest, make the meteor tail on his head disappear to make it round shape and voila.

If the chess gimmick is true chances are this default form could be a pawn motif.

I know the shape is wrong, but I want to call this guy Egghead Rider.

Now I have an idea for a hero that has an egg timer belt and form changes based on hatching. We could birds, insects, fish, and for the movie a platypus form.
