Updated thoughts on Ryusouger. While I still maintain that coming off Kyuranger and Lupat, Ryusouger seems safe and trying to fall back on old Sentai conventions, by the standards of old Sentai conventions, it does look good. I'm really liking RyuOh and what it can do, the armor gimmick looks neat and I want to see how it evolves through the series. If this came at any other time other than now, I think I would be way more on board with it.

The Better images are defiantly improving my perception of the season, while it it does seem to borrow a lot from Kyoryuger, it has a strong medieval aspect similar to the Age of Extinction Dino Bots.

While I like the RyusouChanger, I don't know why they all have the same red theropod face, especially when the Souls are being inserted inside them and those have animal faces on them. It would've looked nice to see blue, pink, green and black versions of the face with the knight's visor flipped over on top.

A lot of references or rehash to zyu, aba, kyoryuger, ohranger, and even Dino charge with weapon, morpher, plot, and color scheme along with possible dancing. Yes, Dino do well and sentai need saving, but the past years they try to be innovated in the wrong way with crayon train, minecraft, etc. the stories for those are debatable, but they need better designer and I would say dragon would still work like hybrid dragon knight hunters with dual modes for mecha like magiking.

Honesty, the mecha kind of feel like Megaranger where 5 operates it as their own while others are just ohranger helmet accessories. The flat non rotatable head feels cheap, but the Lego provide a lot of swappable parts rather than arm swapping even though the connection ports as well as each other individual mecha design are just arm or leg like rather than distinct look. It's the opposite of lupin. Gaoranger did well hiding it without leaving out parts.

I guess Dino brave, kyouyuger return special thus year, along with Dino charge overseas, etc did really well for nostalgic fans that start to grown out of sentai.
I'm guessing dragon was the original motif or it was something else they plan, but they decide to change it very late causing a delay of toys to march, which would be around hashbro time to release beast morphers.

Kinda off topic here, but assumming Ryusouger does use dragons like originally intended, how can they make each dragons distinctive? I know there are subspecies of dragons, although the most notably different are just Western and Eastern dragons, while others are very similar. Then again, Gekiranger was basically same subspecies of cats.

Perhaps the easiest sources for ideas might be Tolkien or the Harry Potter series. Middle Earth had fire drakes, cold drakes, wingless dragons, stone dragons, and others. HP had Welsh Greens, Hungarian Horntails, Chinese Fireballs, etc. Then of course there are Western vs Eastern dragons. I suppose we could throw in sea serpents and real-life "dragon-like" reptiles, even something resembling Dragon Ceasar or a theropod dinosaur.

Yeah I guess the easiest is to make the dragons elemental.

I couldn't find anything about this when I searched online, but the Wikipedia page for Riku Sanjo lists him as the writer for this show. Is this information correct or incorrect?

The production team has not yet been announced. Probably a few more weeks before we learn who's in charge.

But also shhhhh, that might actually be a future series still. This one's Neo-Zyu for other reasons. The next 3 series after it are going to be all kinds of fun. :D

It seems like a rather obvious hype build up for what's coming. Like a countdown. So sit back and enjoy the ride. These next 4 series(counting this one) are going to be wow!

But going on the "Neo Zyu" theme, we might still get a Burai like analog in a new way. Druidon seems very Zedd element drawing on. So that'd imply potentially something unique for the extra ranger that references that maybe.


At least looking at it from a thematic point of view. Which if that's the case, then next series is something to further the hype build up into the Zyu 30th and PR 30th, and then another hype build one. Then biggest climax that all were building to.


Well, so long as sales support to keep going that way at least with increased revenues and increased hyped licensing, as well as increased revenues from Hasbro's end.


So if that's the case, based on that thematic angle. Next series or one after may be actual winged European fantasy style dragons. So fret not, trust in Toei, and enjoy the ride.

I hope the opening theme song is something akin to Dekaranger or Gekiranger or Shinkenger.

Newspaper article from today confirms a few things:

There was no casting announcement this year, likely because of that delayed start date. Black's dinosaur is ニードルサウルス so like, needlesaurus or something. Green is "tigersaurus".

The head writer is Junpei Yamaoka. He's never done tokusatsu before, he comes from the world of J-Drama. The only thing sorta close to tokusatsu he's done is Kamen Teacher, but other than that, nothing. This is pretty crazy news. This is the sort of thing Kamen Rider likes to do, stunt hiring with a big name writing from beyond the world of tokusatsu. Super Sentai has almost always stuck to its local pen of writers from within Toei.

If they're new to Toku, it does mean it'll have a good chance at being a fresh spin on things. So I'm curious.

Kazuya Kamihoriuchi is directing apparently, and he's the one responsible for all those super fancy shots in Kamen Rider Build

In particular, he did episode 21 of Build, which played a lot with sound and tone. It's an episode almost absent of any background music to focus on what the characters were feeling at the time. He's honestly not someone I ever thought would do sentai, but someone I always hoped for.

Yeah, with this crew of staff, Toei have absolutely made a clear statement of intent.

Head Writer Junpei Yamaoka's notable films he worked on were Funouhan(starred Shinken Red as the protagonist and Kamen Rider Rogue as a victim) and Peach Girl, notable TV shows he worked on were GTO(Great Teacher Onizuka) 2012 adaptation, Kamen Teacher adaptation, and a whole bunch of other manga to live action adaptations if you check his wikipedia page.

It legit sounds like the staff choices this time are gonna be trying to push Sentai in a bit of a different direction. Which would make sense if sales haven't been good this run. The shake-up in story format didn't work, so why not try shaking up the production process?

I just realized. Since the Lupinranger and the Patrangers are considered two separate team and designated 42nd and 43th, thus resulting in Ryusoulger being designated as 44th, the next team will be 45th which would finally align the Sentai teams numbering with the actual anniversary of Gorenger. (Goranger ran from April 5, 1975 to March 26, 1977, so anniversary seasons like Gokaiger and Zyuohger technically aired on the 36th and 41st anniversary of Gorenger respectively)

I remember reading that was a reason for making Lupin and Pat count as seperate teams. Just to actually get on the right team and year count, might be mis-remembering though.

If they really wanted to get the alignment right, wouldn't it have been easier to do two short seasons? Like have Lupinranger and Patoranger as two 24-epsiode seasons then whatever is in 2020 would be the 45th Sentai as the 45th Season on the 45th year.
