The main mecha has articulated hands!!! It's a miracle!
|
Hmmm...I see the knight aspect wasn't completely dropped. I'll give this series a shot before I gripe anymore about it.
Also, I just realised that their buckles are freaking dinosaur eggs. That is AWESOME. |

With that in mind - the Saban/Bandai relationship had already been announced as ending (Feb 11th was the premiere of Lupinranger). My speculation is that without the extra income in toys from "Power Rangers", Bandai/Toei decided to go back to dinosaurs to give themselves a boost after what is surely going to be a dismal financial year with Super Ninja Steel and Lupin/Pat. |

Like the story concept. It's definitely very "New age Zyu" in many ways. Which is fitting for the timing of new abroad owners.
And again, I really wouldn't worry so much on the financial side. Revenues coming in from licensing have been the larger emphasis for a bit now. Toei's even said as such years ago. I also really wouldn't trust much of anything BoA says. They tend to be hindered by other factors too, and half truths they aren't telling you. BoA has some great artists, but they are only a little more in the know than an average fan. Comparatively, BoJ to BoA is a really complicated relationship, that's more akin to that relative you only talk to because you had to at family gatherings even if you'd rather avoid them at times. Like TokuChris points out, BoJ doesn't really care what BoA had to say, and BoA had to deal with whatever Toei and BoJ decided unless they were asked to help like in the case of Kyu because BoA was feeling demoralized. Every time this discussion of "financials" by fans comes up, it still makes me eyeroll though. Cause what they seem to talk about and see never reflects the actual data on that from wider royalties and money coming in. Domestic toy sales numbers have been expected to decline for a bit due to other factors(though other domestic royalties forms have increased). But the shows really aren't going away anytime soon as other revenue draws are still sustaining them far more than anyone seems to factor in. Domestic market decline isn't isolated to only Sentai in that regard. But licensing revenues have actively increased as the market reach increased. This doom and gloom is really unneeded, and sadly predictable. To put it to rest, the financials are fine through to the 50th anniversary. Anything after that is what's up for debate. So Sentai will be fine through to the 50th. Save the doom and gloom discussions for then. After 52 is when it might need to formally finally rest to reconfigure. So year 53 might be a skip year. Though other surprises may still be in store too. This "Neo-Zyu" approach is definitely a celebratory move to welcome Hasbro to the family formally now though. I'm really looking forward to how it develops out. And I'm also excited by what they could do with the 6th based on this "neo-zyu" trend. Also expecting a surge in licensing royalties per how Dinos do in other locations like South Korea and other markets. Really looking forward to other series coming up too. Also really looking forward to seeing what concepts come out of the Hasbro integration now that they are directly at the table. Expecting a lot of great things to come for Sentai's future. Definitely love these designs though. The emphasis of teeth for the knight grill, and the thunderstrike tale dividing suit element are excellent touches. The gear looks great too. And the Mecha design has got me excited too. Can't wait to see what else comes from that that. Definitely going to get the mini-plas of those. And really want to see the other integrated aspects and how that evolved in potential or what Hasbro does with it too. This has some potential for a full MMPR revival tbh, which is great timing with other story elements and series coming up. |
Well, I guess like mega ranger they're sharing one mecha. The others are just accessories add on. Even the Morphers shout trex, so I guess the trex might be sentient or some guardian that related to it provide the core five the Morphers,

You know, they could've kept the dragon theme while retaining everything else we see here, even the Kyoryuger color scheme. Perhaps make blue or green female too, just to have another blue female (that's not aquatic-based for once) or a second green one.
EDIT: Have the hero names been confirmed as RyusouRed, Blue, etc? More lameness if that's true. Kyoryuger excepted, Sentai's been on a good streak with variety in names since Go-Busters. (Red Buster, Toq1, Akaninger, ZyuohEagle, ShishiRed, Patren 1) |
Seriously? Another dinosaur themed sentai? I thought there will be knights, mages, etc. But I still hope the story is full of adventures.

The ports on the main robo remind me of the G.I. Joe Built-To-Rule line...

I've begun to accept the suits and the dinosaur themes. But I still hate how they have the exact same lineup as Kyoryuger. At least make Blue or Green female. I hate it when Sentai only has a token female per group.

There aren’t any dragons, but we never really had a reason to suspect there would be. Sentai has almost always used the word dragon to mean dinosaur. We set ourselves up for that gut punch lol. Besides a 4th dino season in 40 plus years is no big deal.
We sure as hell have knights though! Knights riding dinosaurs is just as cool. That cover photo really sold me on these rangers being knights. They captured the knights visor/dino teeth really well. I do wish the suits had a little armor, but the Ryuusoul armor does help make up for it. I still don’t get how the Ryuusouls work with the other gear though. Does it lean into Kyoryuger pretty heavily? Yes, but who cares? I have no issue with Toei taking something they found success with and giving it a new spin. In this case they are taking Kyoryuger ideas and plussing them. They experimented for the past couple years, and I have no issue with Toei wanting to play the classics this time. It’s the writing that will sour this show for me. That, and if they make 6th silver or gold. I’ll die on that hill lol. |
The last Super Sentai season looks pretty cool

RyuuRanger, RyuCommander - it's just a difficult translation out of context.
|
We keep talking about the theme and the team, but what about the enemy faction?
Druidon, eh? How "ancient-looking" would that naturally imply? Also, with Red's "Mecha" taking center stage, what would constitute a "Main Mecha"? Gokaiger Goseiger 199 had 35 Mains all together, but this new idea feels like it would be near impossible to fit it into something like the 199! |

They look really cool but it definitely feels like a retread of Kyoryuger. Same colours, the dino theme, armed on... We'll see how it goes. Definitely screams "safe move" to me.

I really love everything from Ryuusouger. Since Green Ranger are Sabertooth Tiger Ranger, I hope other prehistoric animals will be used so not just dinosaurs.
Anyway, I think Ryuusouger is one of "Dinosaurs Are Dragons" trope |

Comparisons to Zyuranger, Abaranger, and Kyoryuger are inescapable, as is the disappointment that the theme doesn't incorporate dragons!
Zyuranger, the first Dinosaur-themed Sentai, had Dragon Ceaser: The counterpart of Dragonzord from MMPR! Perhaps a Dragon Mecha or Dragon Combination will still make an appearance after the show starts! |

I just wish they make either blue or green to be female so that it wouldn't be blatant Kyoryuger. Plus we have yet to have a Red-Black-Blue-Green-Pink that has two females on the core team. |
Oh no. Dinosaurs are being reused. It'll be identical to the other Dinosaur Sentai that are nothing like each other.
|
Except people have pointed out quite a few more similarities than just 'dinosaurs'?
Most of us seem to be cautiously giving it a chance anyway, which makes sense. A good plot and characters could save worse concepts than this. |
