Here's some pics I took a while back https://i.imgur.com/1fcOHHT.jpg https://i.imgur.com/oAULfiT.jpg I feel like I should change the name of this thread to something like ShiShiLeo's Custom Toku stuff. |

Painted up the Doubutsu Sentai Zyuohger ZyuohKing!
https://i.imgur.com/3zKqsOZ.jpg I've been a Gunpla builder for many years but in the past year I think I've built more Minipla kits than Gundam. I can't say I love the ZyuohKing design but as always happens with these kits, building them makes me more fond of the designs. Minipla uses some clever engineering and sometimes compromises. But the end result is something that has the potential to look like the DX toy but with much more articulation. Perhaps the biggest culprit of bad design in the ZyuohKing is found in the Cube Lion. First it does the cardinal sin of using a sticker in a place where a color coded part could have easily gone- but to make it even worse, the surface beneath the sticker is not molded at all. So even if you decide to paint it, you'll lose out on some detail. Second, the entire "face" of the cube with the 3 side is completely hollow using a giant sticker to cover up the area. Basically a sticker sits on top of a grid of plastic. This means no potential to paint and its possible to the sticker will fail or get punctured because its not holding onto a large surface. https://i.imgur.com/FVm5K7x.jpg https://i.imgur.com/ZLYGvm2.jpg https://i.imgur.com/JaviOSY.jpg I didn't bother painting up the Giraffe. It still looks cool with the foil stickers and I do not wish to paint more brown! One last nitpick about the Zyohger Robo is that the video game theme requires very very straight paint. You're essentially painting geometric pixels and even I struggled to hit that mark. Overall ZyuohKing has really grown on me. I generally like the chunky aesthetics of the older Sentai mecha, but ZyuohKing takes blocky to a new level! |
These are really cool ShiShiLeo

Painted up and assembled X Emperor from Kaitou Sentai Lupinranger VS Keisatsu Sentai Patranger.
https://i.imgur.com/4yqK9y2.jpg https://i.imgur.com/DJRzj5r.jpg https://i.imgur.com/SSwO30d.jpg I mostly only used the robot face stickers. I used all metallic markers from the Gundam Marker 121 Set, as well as XM White and Silver, and flat black GM10 for the dials. You can see I messed up a little and painted the "Claw" of X Train Thunder completely blue, but it almost looks better that way. The LuPat robot designs have a lot of detail which make the mecha look a little messy at this scale. The gold used for this plastic is not my favorite but it does line up with the DX toy. Also the trains have a bunch of random pegs on it which I assume are to facilitate the combined Good Cool Kaiser VSX mode. They detract from the overall design. Otherwise, I like the concept of X Emperor as a cartwheeling robot with a humongous Gatling gun on its chest. As a fan of train-themed robots, I was obligated to buy this set. |
Shotrise! Lightning Hornet! Piercing needle with incredible force.
Kamen Rider Lightning Hornet. A gorgeous suit, a pain to paint. https://i.imgur.com/5XKn31A.jpg https://i.imgur.com/69Qzdr3.jpg https://i.imgur.com/YIbZQs8.jpg https://i.imgur.com/PcxGEf8.jpg Once again, painted using Gundam markers. Gold all over the place and in lots of thin lines. Metallic black and then some metallic blue and pain white on the chest. Wings were painted with metallic blue. I really love this suit and SO-DO comes through again filling in the gaps were SHF may never go. This should wrap up my Zero-One SO-DO collection. Up next is another Mini-pla set! |
Cant complain. Good work on the hornet.

Looks beautiful!

Found some time to paint up RKF Kamen Rider Saber.
I had this figure sitting in my to-do bin for the longest time. https://i.imgur.com/YbmxS2z.jpg https://i.imgur.com/AEfjMXr.jpg Cool figure. I skipped the SHFs for Saber so I'm pretty pleased with this result. The one thing that bothers me is that the sword is such a tight fit in the hand and it's made from a soft plastic so all the paint on the handle just rubs off and leaves traces in the hand. Oh well, I'm just gonna leave it in his hand anyway. The whole right arm was repainted in metallic red which may or may not eat away at the joint. Only time will tell! A couple more picture here: https://imgur.com/a/5ZcPdyO Also, I tried printing some stickers out for the Wonder Ride Book, but because I use a clear sticker and it goes on to a black surface, it didn't turn out good at all. I will have to look at alternatives. |
RKF Saber is already fanastic, but wow - beautiful. I've started painting more RKFs and I don't think I'll ever reach your level because I'm too afraid to mess with the super super tiny details. I just painted up Calibur and Rogue, myself.
You ever thought of using nail polish to paint? Maybe even as a coat? Once it's fully dry it never rubs off. Sadly, I believe every RKF actually has that issue where the weapons are just too big for the hands to hold too well - let alone paint. It's my one gripe, but I still love the line. |

SO-DO Kamen Rider Decade Complete
https://i.imgur.com/oELxJRU.jpg Just a lot of silver paint. The face sticker was awful and I had no luck using paints, so I just used the stickers on top of paint. I cut the stickers up a little to make them sit on the parts better. Love the suit. I don't collect final forms but how can you not love this? |
Shishi! How do I tell if I overthinned into paints? I feel like my citadel black and gray are not adhering, possible due to the addition of air brush thinner (I used it to help transfer the paints from the pots to some bottles).
|
You can tell if paint is too thin if its not adhering!
But first, did you prime your paint subject? Citadel paint is not going to stick well to raw plastic like SO-DO. Adherence is pretty much the big tell. You should always go very easy on the thinner because its easier to add it than remove it. The only real way to reverse the thinner is to get more paint and mix it back in again. |
Noroshi Kaisen!
SO-DO Kamen Rider Sabela appears from a cloud of smoke! https://i.imgur.com/SWozoaK.jpg https://i.imgur.com/HbzwzjU.jpg Quite a lot of paint gold paint for this one. Lots of thin lines without deep grooves to keep the paint in control. Well, it still looks great. If Bandai ever makes a Sabela SHF, it will be outstanding! You may have noticed that I did not paint her hands in the image. Sabela's gloves are all white. I took these images before painting the hands because I knew it was going to take a very long time for the paint to dry. Painting white onto a dark plastic takes a lot of coats and because its on the hands, chipping the paint from inserting the sword into the hand will be unavoidable. They've been painted and I'm letting them dry right now. Once the hands are dry, I'll post more photos with the other Saber SO-DO figures. The boxes for SO-DO Book 8 are comically large due to the King Arthur figure. The King Arthur robot is the biggest SO-DO figure of all time and I am not looking forward to painting that. |
She looks amazing! Impressive work! But I have to ask...

Awesome!! It’s a bit weird to see how few Phase 2s there are, but obviously that’s getting fixed soon…

After than extremely long delay, I finally got the Zenkaiger Minipla kits.
https://i.imgur.com/eoDUM97.jpg https://i.imgur.com/vhEYoSr.jpg https://i.imgur.com/rAuDeu7.png Minipla JuraGaon and VrooMagine with Yu-Do Zenkaiger. I was really hyped for these designs when the show began airing. I immediately ordered both Minipla sets, and then after a package theft, and then a delivery delay, I finally had them 3 months later. My excitement has come down a lot since then but they are still great kits. I will say the Zenkaiger Minipla kits are some of the best value Miniplas. They are big and chunky, have triple transformation, mix & match, and even come with display stands. There was only some painting to be done, but honestly, they still look great with the included stickers. I used stickers on the faces and belts. I have come to accept the way they look like pogo sticks. |
SO-DO Kamen Rider King Lion Daisenki
https://i.imgur.com/KpRDq7C.jpg I just really like the suit because of how mecha it looks. It's almost like something you'd see in Sentai. I also picked up the SO-DO Diagospeedy Rider Machine https://i.imgur.com/PhHOTFE.jpg It seems like SO-DO is our last bastion for rider machines sets. This thing was a pain to paint. It has zero stickers unlike the Rise Hopper which was almost entirely stickers for the signature highlighter colors. I think I'll try to collect all the SO-DO rider machines. Though I'm not looking forward to Revice's hoverbike monstrosity... |
Tiny little Ride Book stickers for the Converge Kamen Rider Saber gang.
https://i.imgur.com/p1eUlCv.jpg I really hope we get the other Saber riders in this line. For some reason we got Durandal before Buster, Kenzan, and Slash. |
A few more SO-DO figures painted up and added to the collection courtesy of Jello Arts. Cross Z Charge!
https://i.imgur.com/0QxpVrU.jpg I keep forgetting that the hands on older SO-DO are molded directly into the arms. SO-DO today have ball joints! We've really come a long way. Cross Z Charge took a bit of masking, but otherwise a little white paint and metallic blue to the gauntlets and boots. I pulled out Grease for a little comparison and wow his joints are super loose. I might have to tighten them up. Kamen Rider Women of Reiwa! https://i.imgur.com/1E2ZnCw.jpg https://i.imgur.com/phX3lH7.jpg I finally acquired a Rushing Cheetah and it looks pretty good. The Valkyrie suit has a lot of extra details and panel lines. I slowed down a lot on my SO-DO collecting, but I'm for sure going to try and pick up all the main female riders. Kamen Rider Jeanne looks amazing and I can't wait to grab her SO-DO. |
Are you going for Zero-Two and Calibur as well or are those too much of a technicality for you?
|
Yeah just looking for the main female riders. Unless I come across those two cheap.
I really like the Calibur suit though. I would definitely get them if they had dedicated female bodies for sure. And especially if Zero Two could do the signature Izu pose. |
Man, great work, truly. Do you only ever use the pens or do you use other paints and airbrushes for your kits?

Kamen Rider Revi
https://i.imgur.com/4u29TtH.jpg https://i.imgur.com/1oPWsnK.jpg My my how SO-DO has improved over the years. Just look at those hidden articulation points in the thigh and knees. The wrist action. The details. The only paint I added was on the hands, the belt, and some detail on the driver. The rest I opted to use the included stickers. The figure feels rather sticker heavy, and because most of the stickers are metallic, it will be easy for them to show scratches. Either way, it's a nice figure and likely my only dip into the Revice toyline other than a SO-DO Jeanne. I also picked up Retro Morphin Yellow Ranger https://i.imgur.com/mzTmcTV.jpg I painted up her weapons with some basic coloring to match the simplicity of the toy. I was surprised at how big this figure is. I had the old flip-head figures and don't remember them being this big. I almost forgot, I also built Zenryoku Eagle https://i.imgur.com/AEkn8Og.jpg Again, I used a combination of stickers and paint. I wasn't really excited for this kit. I mostly picked it up for the all-combined mode. But it is cool to see a tiny gun in the Minipla line. That's gonna be a wrap on 2021. Next project I'm hoping to do Figure Rise Standard OOOs and Moderoid Dynazenon. |
You seem quite familiar with gundam markers, could you help me pick a few out? I'm trying to paint up my SMP Gaoranger sets rather than sticking with the stickers but the pink on Gao Tiger and that light blue on Gao Rhino seem rather unique to them, would you know what pens match them best? Thanks in advanced and good luck on your future projects

Two more Saber SO-DO added to the collection.
https://i.imgur.com/JMPIpzw.jpg Durandal was a lot of work. He has some of the thinnest stickers you'll ever find in SO-DO. But they do a good job and I really understand the suit design now. There are concentric lines and circles all over the suit and really nails the nautical motif. Add to that my favorite Saikou suit. A very simple suit indeed but still benefitted from a little silver paint here and there. I actually think it looks better completely black. And of course now that I'm this close to all the Saber Riders (7/10), I want to get them all. That's how they get you! Here's a shot of the siblings. https://i.imgur.com/80TpNaj.jpg |
Durandal is one of my favorite base forms in the show. Love how it mixes the whale, sonar, and time gimmick around his body. Great work on the siblings as well as their Seikens.
