I feel neutral on the whole sub issue that is going on. It sucks that we can get fan subs for the shows that are currently airing, but this was going to happen eventually.
On the plus side, Toei is actually releasing stuff with English subs on Youtube, Tubi, and PlutoTV. Not to mention, the Kamen Rider 1971 manga and the W anime are getting released in the states. We also have full episodes of Kamen Rider 1971 and Kamen Rider Kuuga on Tubi. It will take a while before we have everything subbed, but I do feel like it will be worth the wait. A decade ago, no one would believe that Kamen Rider would get any type of release in the West given how niche Japanese special effect shows and movies are. |
TV-N and OT have been my go-to for the last 15 years, so from a fan perspective of Toku and SHT, I have appreciated it, but also respected how much effort goes into the process. And that these groups have come so far in how the series have been translated and offered made it feel like I could be included in something more global.
But it is a luxury, and one that also now brings back memories of having to purchase fan subbed episodes of Ranma 1/2 on VHS back in the day. You would think that in our current age, studios would understand the nature of desiring programming. SHT and most Tokusatsu shows are literally light years beyond what is offered in the US. I get that they're finally after 20 years coming into digital infancy with offerings through online broadcast, but seriously, offering a small sampling compared to 45 + years of material is a drop in the bucket. And obviously money makes the world go round, so if a subscription was required (which look at PBS Masterpieces, or any of the other niche for sale type services) it could garner money if offered at the right cost. I also always considered it a mutual respect on the part of Toei to understand that we love their shows, but that love is because of the hard work of fans bringing their materials to the states quicker than their turtle like pace. But in the meantime, I'm back to the digital equivalent of bootleg Ranma 1/2. |
Hey so how to I download from Mega? Do I need to install the desktop app?

Hey so um, on Nyaa, if your longing for the good old days of Tv-Nihon, there's this anonymous source that put out a a thing called Kamen_Rider_Saber that'll make you feel as if you were back in the good old days of two weeks ago.
I say this vaguely as a desperate plea for help, I need Seeds on the 1080p version, I have been stuck at 63.1% for like a while now... |
Kind of late to the party here, but I just caught wind of the whole fansub fiasco. This was probably unavoidable, but nonetheless unfortunate. I hope this means we will see far more official options appear sooner rather than later, because the current snails pace of official releases just isn’t going to cut it.

Agony Subs recently did a scrub of TV-N's' subs for Faiz, including the HBV and movie. Haven't cross checked its quality myself yet, but I've been reading good things.

TV-Nihon has decided to end their Saber translation in light of the recent brouhaha. Master list has been updated to reflect this.
