I liked this one a lot. The story had a good hook (although I saw the Architect's identity coming miles ahead), the guest characters were really likable, and Capaldi almost felt like the main character at times.
|
I mostly enjoyed this week's episode and it's the closest thing I've seen in a long time to something that could have been slotted easily into the classic series. The major issues I had were the guest cast. I'm not sure if the blame rests with the actors themselves or the director, but most everyone seemed to be overacting something fierce this week.
|
Sorry about the mistake, Zeo. When I responded I thought you were talking about Family of Blood. I goofed.
I loved this episode. I could guess what was happening and was still surprised when it happened. |
Well, I've watched too much Who. I compalined about the shredders being killers when "teleports would have been a better idea". Twenty minutes later...`
Anyway, I liked the episode. The monster was brilliant (hooray for not-CGI!), the architect twist was obvious enough to detract from the other twist (you know the one), and Capaldi finally gets to play a full hero role. Kind of. He's still robbing a bank. Anyway, next week: The Doctor works at a school. Again. But he's not a teacher, he's a caretaker. And there's no Sarah-Jane... And now I'm sad. Especially after the article in DWM about her show. |
So my 50 anniversary set came today and it's a. Ice little set on blu Ray.i will post pics later
|
Everything up until the first confrontation with the monster was nearly perfect. The banter was brilliant and Peter/Jenna are awesome together and, in nearly every aspect, Capaldi was as brilliant as ever. There was a solid attempt to have some real personal drama in the episode. I think, for the most part, it was better written than most of the interpersonal drama we see on the show but I'm just not feeling it for some reason.
The primary thing the episode did was make me dislike Danny Pink even more. The romance angle seems awkward and forced and it's saddening that, most likely, he'll be the cause of Clara's departure. The creature was meh, but as it wasn't the focus of the episode it was easy to ignore. I was amused somewhat by the Matt look-a-like confusion, though. The 'big mystery' continuing scene at the end felt a bit out-of-place, but that's to be expected. I have to say, though, that in the 'Next Time' trailer, Jenna looked good in the spacesuit. :D Still, all in all, I'd say this was the most completely satisfying episode thus far. Or, really, more accurately, the one I felt the need to nitpick the least, despite having too much Pink. |
I'm glad the lookalike thing was addressed, because I saw it right away and wondered if it was just a coincidence :lol
|
I liked that one. I like Pink and Osald being together (or, in the words or Courtney, Ozzie loves the Squaddie :) ). The monster sucked (destroy the world my ass. It couldn't even destroy a school. As for the ending scene , I'm liking the continuation of the mystery, but I swear to god, if they give Doctor Who an afterlife, I'm gonna have some complaining to do.
So, next time: Let's kill Hitler... I mean the moon! |
Hey Romana fans, you might wanna come visit me in Cardiff...

Well, this one was... meh. The first half, with the horror-y stuff, I really liked. The spiders were a fairly scary enemy, with what's-his-name's death seeming like aliens.
But then we had the ending. I thought it would be like children of Earth, with the humans doing the wrong thing and the Doctor turning his back. That would have been an ending, especially one that changed the status quo. But instead we get Clara's break down. I'd rather have Handles than this. It's not that I see problems with the Doctor and his companion disagreeing, and I don't know why I didn't lie it, but I still feel nothing for Clara Seriously, I Felt more for Handles the robot head than Clara. Hmmm... she's a control freak yet she doesn't lke being left on her own... Anyway, next week, Mummies and Frank Skinner! |
The best episode of the series so far. It had Silence in the Library, it had The Beast Below, it had Clara breaking type. An episode so good I actually went outside, saw the moon, and said "Good Egg".

This episode was super dumb and completely unrealistic...
...there's no way that girl is the kind of person who would use Tumblr :p |

In all seriousness though, I'm a bit mixed on how I feel about it. To start the addition of Courtney was completely unnecessary, and I hope that's her pretty much over and done with. Kids do not work in the TARDIS and they aren't needed to get kids to enjoy it either, so I don't know why they keep trying to shoehorn it in.
The first half of the episode was decent Who horror, but it was all a bit too by the books to be truly scary. You could pretty much tick off all the tropes as you went along. The second half was a lot better, but I'm really beginning to lose steam with the whole "The Doctor isn't just dark, he's an asshole" thing. I get that it's probably building up to something and I found his assessment of the whole situation agreeable, but the way he went about it was just downright horrible. I'm really beginning to feel for Clara now because a moment doesn't seem to go by where he isn't breaking her down in some way, and this just took it to new lengths. That said, I am looking forward to see how Capaldi goes in a non-Clara ep. Should be interesting. |
I think I've figured out why I didn't like this episode, after reading your guy's reactions and some guys on fanfic.net. This new Doctor and Clara, for all their good interactions, don't work well together, or something like that. He needs someone to listen to him, and Clara needs someone to keep out of her emotional side. Neither are good at that. This new Doctor needs to do something nice for her, and Clara needs to... I don't know, maybe stop being so emotional. I don't hate either of them- I just hate this episode's ending, and that's it.
Also, no Clara this episode. The previews for it mention Clara, don't they? |
I personally found yesterday's to be the worst episode of the season so far...
|
I liked the ending and I think Clara gave the Doctor a well deserved talking to. In my opinion, Clara is thus far is one of the most assertive companions of the New Series, and is something the Doctor needs a bit more of. In that respect she feels a lot like Martha, someone who calls the Doctor out. The moment that stood out the most from this episode was when Clara left the TARDIS, leaving the Doctor stunned, unable to come up with a retort like he always has.
As for the emotional aspect, I feel that the Doctor has done worse for companions in the New Series. Clara is at least more reasonable than say, Amy, and so far, while they don't get along well with each other, it makes for a good watch. Further, a disagreeable Doctor brings out way more in Clara and her personality than Matt Smith's Doctor did, because with Smith they usually got along. Capaldi's Doctor is extremely interesting. He's a mighty big jerk, the kind of character I'd usually steer far away from, but I do find him very entertaining to watch. He's a likable jerk, and while I wouldn't say he's my favourite Doctor, I do enjoy his series so far. Hopefully he'll find his heroic footing once again, that someone will show him that emphatic side he once had. |

So first, we have a weird looking plushes. Seriously, they're freaking me out. Second, (go shameless self-promotion!) I finished my regeneration/debut story for an OC Doctor. I don't know how many people have fanfic.net accounts, but some reviews would be really appreciated. Seriously. I have the opinion that my opinions and other stuff is terrible. Here it is:https://www.fanfiction.net/s/10698571/3/His-Final-Days |
Robert Downey Jr has expressed interest in being on the new Who series. Needs to happen. Just an hour of 13 and RDJ trying to out-sass each other.

Bit of an abrupt conclusion, to be sure. It might have fared better as a two-parter as a number of the developments seemed a little rushed. (I wish those would come back from time to time). Capaldi really had that Hartnell vibe going, especially echoing the times when the First Doctor started softening a little. The atmosphere was nicely built upon, for the most part. Hard to avoid with the settings I suppose, but some of it echoed Voyage of the Damned a bit much. Still, a mostly enjoyable episode with plenty of Jenna looking amazing for the Dads, and similarly inclined Moms. Her eyes seemed enormous in this one! The expanded scene of Foxes' Queen cover was worth a look, too.
Two mostly good weeks in a row, in my opinion. Let's hope things continue in that vein with Flatline! |
Well, this one was good. Frank Skinner was good, the mains were good (even if the conclusion from last week felt very sudden at the beginning of the episode), Foxes cover of Queen was good. Seriously, this episode was very good.
So, next week, dimension-y stuff happens... Can we get to in the Forest of the Night? I'm looking forwards to that one, and this weeks looks... different. I don't know why... |
Another mostly enjoyable episode. The SFX of the creatures were done well. It's a shame that most of the other digital shots in it suffered so horribly. (TARDIS shots excepted.) Clara was brilliant and, hands down, the MVP of the episode. Capaldi really shone in the material he had and the Ten-style speech was well-played. Pretty solid overall, until the end. Clara finally gets to be a character on her own and we jettison all of that out the window to shoehorn another mystery into her. Damn you Steven Moffat!
It's sad that considering how much he's been in, I recognized the crotchety old guy (I plan to sue for them using my personality without recompense :D) from Batman '89 before anything else. This series sure has gone fast, eh? Three episodes left. Edit: The Doctor moving the TARDIS thing-style was a great scene. I also enjoyed, for some odd reason, the baby Pandorica the TARDIS became (visually, I mean) in siege-mode. As the Doctor, Clara didn't waste time finding a companion, did she? :D |
Absolutely loved that episode. Not sure if as much as last week's and definitely not as much as Robot of Sherwood but its definitely top 3 territory.
|
Great episode and I love what looks to be a the toy tar dies you can buy as a prop when it shrunk even more.
|
I didn't think it would happen, this episode being Clara-focused and all, but I really liked it. Maybe its because it feels like classic, basic Who rater than huge moral issue which only Clara can solve Who. The side characters were nice (or, at least, acted well. You can't really call what's his face a nice guy), the mini-TARDIS makes me glad I own the toy of that, because it's freaking adorable, and I'm glad it's not just me for who that Missy scene seemed tacked on. Plus, she's using an I-Pad. Now we know she's evil :D
Anyway, next week: Foresty stuff. With Danny. Yay! |
Flatline might be the first, and only, Doctor Who episode that truly creeped me right out. But there was also so much to love. The TARDIS' Siege Mode looking like the Pandorica was a nice Easter Egg of sorts. Clara learning first hand being the Doctor isn't all sunshine and lollipops. And the Doctor seeing what she truly thinks of him. And Missy being deliciously wicked without doing much.
I love 13. He reminds me so much of 3. Which I really love because I hope Missy ends up being the Master, because 3's best episodes involved him. Hope! |

Well, in Doctor Who related stuff, there was a Doctor Who round on Pointless today. It was A) Actors who played "The Master"; B) Companions of the Fourth Doctor; C)Titles of episodes from 2005
I got at least 3 answers, and not I feel like a massive nerd. I don't care, but now I'm ready for In the Forest of the Night. |

Double post but...
Hands down the worst episode of the season for me. The plot was decent but minuscule, the kids were mostly awful and the dialogue completely cringeworthy. Not impressed at all. Next week however should be VERY interesting. |
Not sure how to feel about that episode. It was well acted, for the most part, and Capaldi really seems to do well around children. But the feel good, unexplained reappearance of the elder sister seemed like pointless, tacked on sentimentality. It wasn't unexpected, though I sort of expected the Doctor to fetch her. Next week's episode looks kind of awful. It seems to harken back to the tone of stories like The Wedding of River Song and some of the more bombastic crap Moffat has put out in the last couple of years. The effects looked a bit off as well. In particular, the falling Doctor looked horrible! I don't know. I think the glory days of series 8 may be behind us already.
Edit: Also, STOP ADDING MYSTERIES TO CLARA'S BACKGROUND. Enough is enough. She finally started being a character this series and now it looks like we're regressed into this usual Moffat garbage. |
It was ok this weeks but the only thing that I hated with this episode was child's they where really annoying evry thing else I enjoyed but God thoes kids. Next we'd I am curious about it.
|
I really enjoyed the latest episode and I thought the kids were hilarious. The remarks they made, I think I laughed more than most episodes this series so far. :D
