New trailer is up. Looks like Alpha Edge is treated as the main form after all. Even in the opening Z changes into Alpha Edge. Maybe his original form won't be featured in battle as much.

Also, I'm pretty disappointed with the Lance Arrow. It's such a blatant retool of Orb Slugger Lance. Usually retooled weapons are only for the movies, standard weapons are usually original mold.

Yeah, it makes sense though cause Z is next in line to what I call the Ultraseven legacy, which started with Seven and continued on to Leo and then Zero. Maybe next time Z gets his apprentice it will be Leo or Zero's kid maybe? Heck, Astra's kid as an apprentice could work too I think.

I'm a little disappointed that Alpha Edge is Z's "main form" because it just looks too much like Zero. Maybe they'll do an Orb and his normal/original look becomes more important later on? Or anytime? I just like his normal look more than Alpha Edge.

Yeah, Alpha Edge is basically Spacium Zepellion, since thanks to Orb being represented through Origin, Spacium Zepellion is now defunct.

I don’t think so. Judging from the trailer, Z arrives on Earth, fights alongside Haruki in the mecha but both are defeated which prompts Z to fuse with Haruki and give him the Ultra Z Riser with the medals.

So when Haruki transforms he can only access the fusions, not Z's base form? Because it would be kinda weird to transform without any medals. And since Z by himself would be beaten so early and him being a separate entity from Haruki I would doubt they'll pull an Orb.

But who knows really. I'm just conflicted which merchandise I should buy for my main Ultra display - Z's base form or Alpha Edge? :lol

Maybe Z is the Momotaros to Haruki's Ryutaro, and Alpha Edge is Sword Form?

I did recognize him and I'm so happy to see him again. I really enjoyed his performance in Wizard; he's just such a likable looking fellow. He reminds me of my favorite Grandpa who always gave me money to go and buy us ice cream.

Nah, Beta Smash is bought regardless because Beta Smash rules, but for the main form display - I don’t know. I like Alpha Edge better but it isn’t really Z’s base form... I lucked out with Orb Origin because they did it before Spacium Zeperion but – oh well, guess I’ll wait and see.

I mean... honestly, that's a big part of it for me. I don't want an Alpha Edge Figuarts; I do want Z. :V

I got my Ace Blu-Rays a couple of days ago. Now I have a lot of Ultraman to watch; not that that's a bad thing!

When Z officially hits can the forum make a stickied episode threads? It's a bit sad that Ultraman doesn't get enough love. And while it might not really affect anything, having more people watching & disvussing Ultraman would make Tsuburaya's globalization effort worthwile.

Do we have any statement on how we can watch it? Official subs on YouTube or...?

Nothing at the moment. Tsuburaya always post raws on YouTube though.

But it'll be a blast if they decided to sub it on YouTube. Hopefully the feedback from Ultra Galaxy Fight prompts them to do so.

Finally looked at the Ultra Galaxy Fight: New Generation Heroes!

I liked it. Never saw Ultraman R/B, but I got to admit I do have an interest now. That said, I'm trying to resist the urge to find a fan-sub in favor of Mill Creek's releases.

What specifically is Ribut originally from? I thought I saw that he was from the Philippines originally. Was this his first appearance in Tsuburaya canon? Does he have more adventures elsewhere? He was strong and totally deserves not only a new figure, but more inclusion!

He's originally from a crossover between Tsuburaya and the Malaysian animated kids show "Upin & Ipin".

I believe his first appearance in a Japanese fiction was within the final episode of "New Ultraman Retsuden" where he's seen standing in a group with the other Ultraman.

And I think you pretty much saw his entire appearance in live action by now.

What about that "Galaxy Rescue Force" Ribut loved to name-drop constantly?

Unless it is featured in "Upin & Ipin" I believe it's just a name that isn’t really explored yet.

If I had to guess, it's one organization an Ultraman can join, just like the Intergalactic Defense Force. Whereas the latter specializes in combat and defense the former is trained more for rescue operations.

Belial's son this, Taro's son that, Zero's (not really) apprentice here. I want them to reference Mebius again and show off his, I dunno, sibling/nephew/clone or something!

Lol I remember during Taiga's early days some speculated that Tregear is a corrupted Mebius.

Well if it's anything next year is the 55th anniversary as well as Mebius' 15th anniversary. Problem is Mebius' actor has retired, he does have a new voice actor, but it wouldn't be the same if we can't see Mirai because Mirai is literally Mebius.

Personally tho, I really want 80 to get some love. This year is his 30th anniversary dangit.

Perhaps some of the other cast members from Mebius would be willing to appear?

Best Answer: Have Mebius take center stage in a 15th Anniversary Movie with Zett or the Ultraman after Zett in which Mebius joins with a new host and even gains a new power-up, not unlike Zero! I'd even say throw in Geed since Hikari was described as the one behind the Ultra Capsules!

Since Mebius was a love letter to the Showa-Era, perhaps this could be chance to something interesting with them as well? My earlier comments expressed that Ribut needed more inclusion, and since he is obviously inspired by Showa-Era Ultraman, then he too could appear and fight alongside the Ultra Brothers and Mebius and Hikari.

Yup, I'd be down for more Ribut. Though I hope they would make a new suit for him that is closer to his original look, which is more hi-techy than your typical Ultra.

I posted in the Ultraman Z episode thread that I'm new to Ultraman and that was my first episode of it ever, and I really liked it. I was waiting to watch more Z before checking out the older stuff, but I'm already kind of wanting more!

For those who are more well-versed in Ultraman than I am, is there a specific season that's a good starting point? I've read a lot of good things about more recent seasons, but I don't know if there's a specific one that's typically recommended to start with or what. Any recommendations are appreciated!

The best part of Ultraman is that even though it puts an emphasis on legacy stronger than other Toku shows, they are usually beginner friendly.

Generally the best starting point would be original Ultraman, Ultraman Tiga, and Ultraman Mebius. Ultraman Nexus is also recommended if you want mature storytelling.

But if you want to stick to the new generation, X is the one I recommend as it give you the general feel of past Ultra shows, as it is the last one to have fighter jets on attack teams.

Ultraman Orb, despite being the 50th anniversary series, is heavily standalone.

While for Geed, you need to watch the previous Ultraman Zero movies to fully appreciate the series. They did provide an Episode 0 for recap however.

I would only recommend Ultraman Taiga after you watched all the previous New Generation shows. While it is standalone, in terms of visuals it is the best, because Tsuburaya is flexing at the practical affects so much, it puts the previous eras to shame.

Max is a great entry point.

Ultraman X and Max I think are both great back-to-basics + entry point shows. Max may be a tiny bit old by today's standards but really has a good grasp of the essence of a classic Ultraman show so it is worth it as a entry show, and X is just the same but more recent.

There are so many good starting points I don't think you can go wrong, but my particular suggestion is that, if you're curious about the history and lore of Ultraman, Mebius is both a wonderful show in its own right and a great crash course on the Showa era Ultramen while still remaining accessible to new viewers.

To put it simply, it was Gokaiger before Gokaiger, but Mebius makes the guest appearances by past actors a bit more of an occasion, with the early stretch especially focused mostly on Mebius himself, which, again, keeps things accessible. Even more than the guest appearances, I think the show represents Ultraman on a thematic level perfectly. If I had to pick one show in response to being asked "What is Ultraman?", Mebius would be it without a doubt, and as a big anniversary celebration, that's how I know they did their job right.

Still though, don't feel too obligated to pick it if something else seems more interesting to you.

Watching Max and then Mebius right afterwards was how I got back into Ultraman after watching Dyna episode CDs back in the early 2000s, so I can say from experience that you've not picked a bad path!

That was mostly the path I ended up actually taking.

I watched Ultraman X first, then upon recommendation here to start Max afterwards I did that and then watched Mebius. Max and then Mebius seem to be like a good combo of sorts I feel.
