I have no idea what they're going for with Joker. It just doesn't fit. People are saying "well Heath Ledger's Joker looked stupid at first" but it's not the same thing. Heath Ledger's Joker and his scars and face paint were merely an alternate approach to the Joker's typical defomity. Joker here still has his deformity, plus all the extra stupid shit they tacked-on. It's overdone.

Plus, Joker's supposed to be a hyper-intellectual and a narcissist, and grilled teeth do not in any way say "intellectual." When would he get all this stupid shit done to him, unless it's all from before his chemical mishap? (if that's even the origin) It's why he always wears a suit. He's a clown, a self-styled clown prince no less. Even Ledger's Joker had the oversized shoes, colourful outfit and obvious makeup to offset the missing primary colours and faux-dapper style. Here he's just... completely genericized. Hell, change the hair colour alone and there's not a single Joker-like thing about him. (even with the green hair he's too generic)

I'm all for reinvention, but it has to have a clear purpose and payoff, especially when done to higher profile characters. There's no clear advantage to having the Joker reduced to an everyday psychotic with a shite design. He's no more intimidating, no more clown-like. Much like most of DC's character's, he seems to have been robbed of most of his colour and persoanlity in favour of something blander. And I know most will try and say "but you've only seen him for a few seconds!" Well, a few seconds is all I need to identify literally any other Joker incarnation I am aware of, so it should've worked here, y'now?

At least that's my point of view. pretty much copy/paste the same sentiments for Harley, who is likewise completely unrecognisable for no other advantage than to make her more generic and mass-appealing. Obviously with a character so popular, appeaing to that popularity by changing the character completely is the way to go.

Considering David Ayer's other work, I'm pretty sure that won't be the case. And it's apparent from the trailer that, at the very least, Enchantress will get some development, too.

The grill is there because he's been terrorizing Batman for a decade or so and gets punched in the mouth a lot. Which I think is an interesting touch. Batman in this universe isn't exactly a pushover.

So, I watched Gods and Monster and I was pleasantly surprised, the initial webisode and title made it sound like another Justice Lords/Crime Syndicate kind of deal, but it's not, it's a story about flawed people who are still trying to do their best to be heroes, or at least what they think heroes should be.

The movie focuses on an AU Justice League composed only of Superman (Zod's son) Batman (Kirk Langstrom) and Wonder Woman (Bekka) and their efforts to clean their name when key scientists start getting killed, the mystery is easy to get into, though the resolution isn't that strong, the characters however are pretty great, Superman sums up the ideology of the movie the best, he's rough, he kills, he's had a harsher life than Clark Kent, but he is still doing what he thinks is best, and is still a compassionate human, Batman is kind of amazing, he has a simple but compelling backstory, I'm fond of Man-Bat and it's hard not to like him here, Bekka's story has the least overall impact on the plot, but she has more than enough charisma to make up for that.

Gods and Monsters is a really entertaining film done in that DCAU style we all know and love, is it perfect? Of course not. But it's not the dark and edgy mess many of us expected at first, and it's definitely worth the time.

DC television bothers me. Not the shows themselves, but the weird-ass way they handle continuity. Marvel intertwines everything. Agents and Carter having ties to the movies, so that it's all one expansive universe. While DC just goes "Nope".

They modeled him after Frank Miller's Dark Knight. I like it.

Me and some young people were talking about this earlier. They were sad TV Flash and Arrow weren't going to be in the movies.

Yeah I'm happy the CWverse has been left to do it's own thing because it's been doing great so far. I just worry it'll affect it if certain characters become off-limits due to the movies or whatever.

It seriously bugs me that they announced the actor for the movie Flash the week the CW series started though. That's just a horrible thing to do.

So excited for John Constantine to appear on Arrow. I enjoyed Constantine for what is was worth, and I'm glad to see him appear again.

Also adding to that, apparently, John's appearance will involve Sara Lance and the unforeseen consequences of her resurrection, which John will help deal with. So it seems that John's appearance will tie-in to Legends of Tomorrow.

There's a limit to how much you can do with a dude on jeans and a shirt. :lol
