Yeah there's not a lot of options. We're dealing with an extremely large number of goods worth significantly more than 22k. If I were to wait, the shipping cost could go up even more. Manufactured goods are not allowed to just sit at a warehouse or else incur storage fees and potential loss or damage. It also costs money to dispose of goods.

It's a unique situation and when I think about it, it really feels like capital extortion. We take for granted just how much the world economy relies on metal boxes carried on a boat.

22k basically eats into any expected profits for the whole year and I'll be operating at a loss for as long as I can. I feel really bad for all the other small business that are hit by this surcharge. Big companies will be able to swallow this charge and make up for it elsewhere.

If you all are able to, please support small and local business whenever you can.

Oof. Man, I'm so sorry. That is a totally shit hand you got dealt. I've had some weird cost increases happen over the last year due to COVID-related market recalibrations -slash- a whole bunch of people looking out for their piece of the pie at the cost of anyone else in the industry, but nothing on that scale.

It certainly sucks when all you can do is, like, eat it. Shit rolls downhill, and the hill is very very high. Those bigger industry actors will find some way to pass their costs along to you, and the best you can do is try to figure out some way to stay afloat.

While there's maybe nothing else you can do but weather the situation, and there's sadly not much I can do as a guy on the internet, at least let me say that I believe in your ability to weather it. I'm rooting for you!
