My thoughts on the no national dex in the game just weird. Pokémon is about catching all of them. I angry about no megas in the game that one of my favorite about pokemon now it no more.
I can't help but feel this is the start of a down fall for TPC. They just cutting a lot out from the game that makes these games so much fun. I think sales for swsh will be the lowest ever for a main game release. I don't see myself that big of a pokemon fan anymore like I was years ago. I feel that the rush of the last few games could have been a sign of what to expect in swsh. I found this pic on twitter that would show what I mean. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/D8_R0_QXsAA4W9n.jpg Also with all the backlash and rushing these games out I would not be surprise if this the last gen of pokemon made because of low sales. |
If you think this will be the last generation of Pokemon, or even if this game will have low sales, then please don't invest in stocks :lol
|
Pokemon will probably go on forever and will still be going even after we die of old age.
|
I'm actually not so sure every single Gen 1 Pokémon will be in -- I certainly see some as unlikely, like those who have other-gen evolutions who don't have models from LGPE; like Tangela and Mr. Mime.
I can certainly see a large majority of them though. Almost certainly we'll see Squirtle, Bulbasaur, Pidgey, Geodude, Zubat and Mewtwo again. |

Fallout 76 being that low is surprising

"We're adding NPC's and a BATTLE ROYALE MODE". Like, there’s no way any self conscious being with a set amount of intelligence and awareness of the gaming industry cannot feel utterly insulted by that. Fallout 76 is a garbage fire that keeps on burning and the more fuel Bethesda pours into it the more disgusted I am as a person who casually enjoys videogames as a medium in general. Pokémon doing a no-no and Battletoads looking like garbage has nothing on Fallout 76 being a living, breathing caricature of what's fundamentally wrong in modern gaming. It being this low is positive on one hand as it indicates that the people who would be angry at it have just moved on, on the other hand, it really deserves being hated much more than Pokémon or Battletoads. |

The entitlement of the Pokemon fanbase is staggering.

I never filled a national dex because I just don't see any reason. So why are people making this huge of a fucking deal? I must be missing something because this all just doesn't make sense to me that people might not get the game over this and no megas or z moves. Also onto the no megas it sucks but it already seemed like they didn't care much about them anymore with the fact how annoying it was to get them in Sun and Moon and that they were a post game thing.
Out of all problems with main Pokemon games and these are the ones people got so upset about? Damn. |

So a good amount of past Pokémon will not be available in Sword & Shield. Which sucks. If your favorite Pokémon didn’t make it into the new regional dex then you're screwed basically. |
And what difference does that make?
No complete dex of Pokemon has ever been available in one game. What if Sw/Sh had a full national dex, but there was no method to obtain, say, any Gen 5 Pokemon? There was no method to transfer them across, there was no area in the game where they would appear, and no trainers offered them for trade. There would be literally no possible way to get any of the 151 Unova Pokemon, even if their data was present. Then what? We don't know if they would make them available. Kalos came and went, with the "Obvious" Z version never showing up, so it's not like Pokemon is predictable even when the clear pattern is present. So just because a national dex would be in the game, doesn't mean they would have any intention of shoveling all 900 critters into it. Which would be better? Having hope that characters might become available down the line, with absolutely no promise or even hinting towards them even doing so, or just knowing what your options are from the get go? This issue is just where the line has to be drawn for by the devs. My all time favorite Pokemon is currently Primarina. A starter. Unless it's X/Y giving you a Kanto starter for free, you only get one, and unless there's some post game content that allows it, that's your lot. Primarina isn't going to be in Sw/Sh. And even with a nat dex, she wouldn't become available unless there's some stupid ass gamestop event. How do you think I feel, knowing that my current all time favorite Pokemon will never be available for some time, and a national dex won't change that? I'm shit out of luck regardless. We all can't get what we want, but battering down Gamefreak's social media and attacking them on all fronts comes across as the most petty and entitled this fanbase has ever been. Pokemon is just trying to be fun, and if I can come to grips with never seeing my favorite Pokemon again, then I'm sure you lot can handle perhaps learning to love other Pokemon, too. |
From my perspecitve, it's not that they're not available, it's that they'll never be available. Unless GameFreak pulls a DLC for something that's always been in previous games, which is a scummy tactic anyway, they just won't exist. Even if they were to release, say, a Sinnoh remake, you couldn't trade/battle across games properly because the models just wouldn't exist in Sw/Sh. And when those models don't even look that different to S/M, it seems odd. Doubly so when they've kept every pokemon useable for literally every game in the past, including the big upscale to 3D in X/Y.
Plus, I don't think this is just a "Wah wah Sword and Shield won't let me play as Mothim" problem, as some of you sem to think it is. It's indicative of people getting slightly sick of Game Freak's practises as a whole. They introduce a feature, only to remove it two games later, and this is the ultimate form of that. Replacing Mega-Evolutions with Z-Moves, and then both entirely with Dynamaxing is just punishing people who've played the games for longer, as what they might enjoy is phased out for something which itself is gonna be replaced by something else in a couple of years. And now deciding that, unless you mod the games (and I have no idea how hard it is to mod a Switch), you just won't be able to transfer Pokemon and play as them, full stop. Want to see, say, Volcarona on the big screen? Maybe not, even if its one you've been transferring forwards for 10 years now. Plus, we all secretly know it's gonna be the enteirety of Gen1 kept, and a sprinkling of everything else, because that's how GameFreak works, which might annoy me more than anything else. Does this mean you shouldn't buy Sword and Shield? No, do what you want, and some bits of this game do look good. I want to like it, but at this point, I'm tired of games just throwing out features that have been around for years. I'm not even angry, just kinda sad and resigned to it. But calling fans "entitled" for wanting something that's been in literally every previous game, in a game that's gonna make millions no matter when it releases, is a bit snide. |
Being disappointed that the national dex is gone is not being entitled. The extent to which the fans have been taking it to, from harassing employees, to the nonstop petitions, to the boycotts, however, is.
Concerning the removal of features, I'm not defending it. I'm just as bothered. However, I do feel it's being blown out of proportion. Z-Moves were a bad mechanic to begin with, and while losing Mega Evolutions is disappointing, it was inevitable. The common point for Mega Evolutions is that it gives weaker Pokemon a chance at being better, but since they're also giving Mega's to numerous stronger Pokemon as well, it then devolves into "Why run Mega Beedrill when you can use Mega Pinsir instead?" Taking into the consideration of not caring about the meta game, then yeah. It just sucks for everyone, doesn't it? We all want everything to come back. It would make the games for a much more fulfilling experience, but Pokemon does things differently. We've all known this. Sometimes you can't hold on to everything. 9 year old me had to let go of my original Charizard when I started Ruby. Adult versions of us will have to let go of whomever so we can experience something new. It sucks, but much like bug catching in real life, sometimes you gotta let things go. If Sword and Shield are the straw that broke the camel's back, so be it. If people are so upset that they'd rather see the franchise fail because of it, then let it burn. |

It's kind of obvious that the original Kanto pokemon are returning. There's a reason they exclusively got Alolan forms when the more European Pokemon would've made more sense :lol

Same thing with Primarina. Yeah, maybe the starters wouldn't be available normally in the game, but you wouldn't even have to rely on events or anything of the sort. You could easily transfer them in. Even if you personally wouldn't, anyone else who wanted to could. You could trade with friends, the GTS, anything really. You would be the furthest thing from shit out of luck if you wanted to see Primarina on the Switch. You probably unequivocally are now, though, since nobody could do that even if they wanted. Quote:

To me this points more towards huge problems in Game Freak itself which are just starting to show themselves more as deadlines increase and they're dealing with much larger hardware shifts than the likes of Gameboy Colour to Gameboy Advance, on top of an ever-expanding amount of content. A company which refuses to expand beyond less than 200 employees yet expects them to bring out main games every year to meet a holiday season, including working on a home console game when none of those employees during their time at the company haven't had any experience on something more powerful than a 3DS? Tell me that's not going to implode at some point.
I genuinely feel more and more scared for GF employees the more I think about this situation. Much as I'm sad I likely won't see some of my favourites like Decidueye or Staraptor back; nor great interesting mechanics like Z-moves or Mega Evolutions, at some point I realise that that's the least of my worries with this scenario. |

Borrowed Let's Go Eevee from a friend.
I'm enjoying this way more than I thought. I think it actually might just be a better entry than the 3DS games. |

I really like Gigantamax Corviknight, but it's a real shame they went for that weird aesthetic choice of a way too heavy red aura and those dumb clouds. I'd enjoy these forms a lot more without them.
Either way, while I have heavy reservations about the execution - and that they're obviously too scared of retcons - I like that this is a more intelligent way of doing Megas and Z-Moves while also streamlining the two concepts. It potentially removes the power creep by combining them into one, and also addresses an issue with Megas -- everyone gets it. Obviously only a select few still are the only ones to get new actual forms and such, but even if you're not one of that group; you can still get a power boost from it so you're not really left in the dust. In comparison to the presentation of Megas, it's also cool that while there will be a Gen 1 focus later on as with everything; they're not afraid of applying it to the new guys right away and showing that front and center -- compare this to how it took us an age to get a single Mega each for Unova and Kalos. I have... problems still, many problems; especially when you look at some of the details on the website... but I can at least appreciate a lot of this stuff on paper. Also that new rock-type is a Motobug from Sonic, if it using Tackle doesn't result in your Pokémon exploding with rings, I'll be disappointed |
Oh sweet, Fighter girl has 193 on her shorts.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPgq4cCthaE I may end up picking Sword. Just need more info on exclusive critters. |
As much as I'm disappointed that there isn't going to be a National Pokedex in this game I'm not massively bummed out about it as I stopped transferring my Pokemon between games from Gen 4 onwards so that I actually could have strong Pokemon teams. My goals became to increase them all to Level 100 instead.
The #BringBackNationalDex movement however is not one I am willing to participate in because of what I feel that it represents. People are hijacking absolutely everything that the Pokemon Company and Masuda do in order to push their agenda and the worst part is that movements like the Sonic movie redesign and the Mario Maker 2 friend update are only adding fuel to the fire that continually protesting until you get exactly what you want is exactly the way to go. https://twitter.com/Gigglegloom/stat...88556106121217 I mean, it gets to the point where someone can make a bingo of it: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/D_TPjH3XUAA--Vq.jpg Pokemon-wise I find myself playing the card game again having obtained a modern physical deck and signed up to playing online, though this came about through playing Yu-Gi-Oh again and finding it a bit too complicated with all the new rules that they introduced. It does make me wonder though, the card game works on rotations, theoretically that means there will be Pokemon featuring in the card game that won't be part of the Galar Pokedex by the time the new games come around, which looks especially bad from a marketing perspective when you're pushing Pokemon for a side game (admittedly still one of the biggest in it's market) when most of your fans care about the main video game itself. Also, Dynamaxed Pokemon cards might stand out in the deck a bit too much... |
I feel most of us have moved on, hoping it'll be back in the next game, and are more than a little disgusted by a loud minority constantly harassing and shouting down Game Freak employees and other people. I've also seen a very frustrating attitude from people who are extreme the other way, but they at least don't resort to harassment as stated.
Still, I think we should more or less look away from the controversy; admit both sides are in the wrong here in regards to the loud minorities and move on. It's frustrating seeing it dominating discussion so much and to see each side shout the other down without even bothering to understand the other side; whether it's realistic arguments about game freak or understanding that some people would naturally feel down about it when they were otherwise looking forward to a game. I don't think the game looks very good and I'm not going to get it - at least not for a while - so I'm just gonna sit back and enjoy the new creatures and hope for a Let's Go Johto or something. I'm also at least finding it interesting tracking down new returning creatures found in each new trailer. For instance, a new Japanese trailer today that otherwise showed nothing of note did reveal to us that Lapras, Mawile, Ferroseed/Ferrothorn and Mareanie/Toxapex are in SwSh. So it's kinda fun looking at this little checklist, even if I could have if dexit wasn't a thing. |
I’m still not giving up on #BringBackNationalDex/Mega Evolution/Z-Moves.
After all the time spent since Gen IV getting every Pokémon Shiny, even maxing out the game clocks in all my games since X Version, only for Pokémon to drop these bombshells like that. Completely disrespectful to hardcore trainers like myself. |
|
They actually expanded on a mechanic... Call me surprised

Still no deal because #BringBackNationalDex/#BringBackMegaEvolutions/#BringBackZMoves

New Galarian Zigzagon and Linoone - pretty cool, always had a soft spot for my badger boys, so the get a UK version is neat. The evolution, I like a lot more in concept than in actual design, but I'll take it if it means Oblagoon can stick with me to the Elite 4 this time.
Galarian Weezing - 10/10, what a unit. The mouse thing... is just a slimmer Pikachu. It even has the red cheek things. The form switching doesn't interest me, especially with a name like "Hangry Mode". All the other stuff will probably benefit better from being played through than just glimpsed in a trailer, but it looks nice, especially the fully done character models. Quote:
