I think I made it clear in my original post what my problem with Ridley was. He just isn't well suited to the game, both because of his design and his appearance. A big purple death monster isn't something anyone expects from a Nintendo party game, he doesn't exactly fit in with the others and his design would lead to all sorts of problems, even if you shrink him down. He's nothing like Charizard or Bowser in that regard, I just don't see how he'd work as a fighter.

And yes, although Dark Samus isn't actually Samus, it'd still be another character that looks and plays exactly the same (and with Samus in the name). We didn't need Wolf either, which is most likely why he's gone, but at least he wasn't just a pallet swapped Fox.

I'm still not sure I believe the rumours about the costumes. This does give them a lot more weight, but after saying he didn't want different characters to be relegated to costumes, why would we suddenly see that happen for the Koopa kids and Alph? Dark Pitt, Dr. Mario and Lucina should have just been costumes if that's the case (and honestly, Dr. Mario isn't a different character anyway).

Wasn't it just the alts that changed their moves in some way, shape, or form were new characters? The Koopa Kids and Alph were said to be purely aesthetic.

That comic makes so little sense it almost seems like it's bullshit.
The notion that it's physically impossible to alter Ridley's size to properly scale him is an outright lie. To say that there is no possible in between, that he's either too big or too small, is too far fetched to believe.
Additionally, it ignores that Ridley doesn't stand in that prone position very often.

Concerning Dark Samus, she shares physical similarities with Samus, but from a power basis, they're completely different. She's not just Samus spray painted black.

Why? She's not just a palette swap like Dark Pit is. Yes, her outfit is very similar, but 2 things 1. She's a totally different character (Yes, I know that kind of applies to Dark Pit as well) 2. She's a different gender. Yes, you could argue "But Female Robin and Female Villiager!" but those are different gender versions of the SAME character, they aren't entirely different characters like Marth and Lucina, that and Lucina plays a huge role in Fire Emblem Awakening (to my understanding)so, to relegate her an alt would be a crime. Should she be more unique in terms of moveset? Yes, I won't disagree with that, but she shouldn't just be an alt costume. Maybe people wouldn't complain as much if she were DLC (Since DLC is rumored to exist) and I would have been ok with that, I wouldn't have minded paying a little extra for her.

Last I heard, the only difference is height and that Lucina's sword doesn't have a "Sweet spot."
That aside, their identical, which is where the issue arises.
We listen to Sakurai making note that we wouldn't have to worry about 'clone' characters, and then we add a character that is almost literally no different from another, but with breasts and a mask?

I meant as characters, not as fighters.

EDIT: and you and I had this conversation before. Sakurai said that a while back, things change. Like Transformers: Prime. It's whole concept changed between when it was first being worked on, and when it came out.
