I really can't think of other series that I'd call a bad intro series, though. While shows like Jetman and Dekaranger I wouldn't call good for a newcomer, they're not too bad for someone first getting into Sentai to watch...
|
Really, the only reason I could see Jetman not being a great series for a newcomer is the fact that the team constantly seems like they're gonna fall apart. I probably wouldn't recommend it as a starting place, but if somebody wanted to watch it I wouldn't tell them not too.
While I haven't seen it, I've heard lots of people suggest Shinkenger to newbies. Thoughts on that one? |
I dunno about Jetman. People say that, but unless it's a Gai/Black Condor episode, the team is actually super solid.
I can't comment on Shinkenger since that series almost bored me as much as Sun Vulcan...Apparently there is a lot that people like about it, but I just couldn't see it. |
I think it's really something that depends on the person. I mean, an action-filled show is great and stuff, but if a person is more up for an intriguing story or just flat-out comedy, you might recommend different stuff based on that.
I always recommend to people the shows that got me started (Magiranger and Shinkenger), but I do show them some other stuff and let them pick what catches their interest. Because honestly, when I got into Kamen Rider from Sentai, I just couldn't get into W at first despite people recommending it and me liking the show later on. Magiranger and Shinkenger both had themes I was interested in, designs and music that worked well with me and characters I realte to. While I do enjoy the action, I'm more of a story person and that shows had some pretty neat overall plots that drew me in. Granted though, when I watched Shinkenger, I already had a fond memory of Magiranger from some years ago, so I was already used to mech battles and other toku tropes. That made it easier to look over the summer slump (because honestly, the Ushi Origami episodes were pretty boring) and the monsters growing big at the end of every. single. episode. |
Shinkenger was my first series and I loved it. Still my favorite overall. I think it has a story and action that are enjoyable and can catch the attention of a newcomer. Although, Matrixbeast, I will argue that Shinkenger is in no way as boring/terrible/godawful as Sun Vulcan.

Shinkenger's problem is that it packs 90% of its plot into the last 10 episodes, resulting in an interminable middle 30 episodes. But hooboy, what a last ten episodes! That is some of the most dramatic and emotionally intense Sentai I've ever seen, and it is definitely worth marching through the boring stuff to get to. I'd still put Shinkenger high on a "intro series" list because maybe newcomers wouldn't be quite as bored by the filler, having never been previously exposed to the many toku tropes on display. As far as creating an "intro series" list... I don't think that's very productive. I pretty much think that a newcomer is best served by watching the show that sounds most interesting to him/her. Perhaps an "avoid watching these series until you've seen a few" list would be more helpful. |

But I didn't finish it, and perhaps others with more patience would have more to enjoy. Quote:

Shinkenger was also my first sentai(I was out of the fanbase for like three years and it moved to the back of my head, and I literally forgot I watched it until I read something about it. I have a terrible memory :))
I think it was good, but it wasn't the best. There were times when I found it kinda slow paced and boring, but the cast was very enjoyable and the endgame really made it worth watching the series. I agree that a newcomer should watch the series that sounds the most interesting to him/her. |

It may not change your mind on the show as a whole, but you'll understand why so many people sing its praises. |

It really depends on what you're watching it for, I guess. Quote:

Has super sentai feel bad lately with ToQger & Ninninger?
|
I think the problem with ToQ and Ninnin is that the adults know it isn't for them and they may feel a bit betrayed. There are other seasons that are obviously for kids, but are easily enjoyed by adults. Kyoryu walks the line that ToQ and Ninnin exploded over. It is a different direction for this era of the show and that is okay. It may last for another season or two or for the next five or six; there is no way to tell.
Toei is very aware of their Otaku fanbase and these last two years they have basically told them to take a backseat to the target audience. I can't say that is a bad move since the toys are still selling (11 billion JPY is nothing to frown at), but I can see why it has caused some of the adult members of the fandom to be a little peeved. |

Still, I didn't have any trouble grasping the emotional side when I watched Shinkenger finale arc for the first time. I was actually pretty overwhelmed by it, as a matter of fact, and even then thought it was a Sentai franchise highlight. Since Matrix has no interest in watching the whole show, I think this is his best shot at deriving enjoyment from Shinkenger. Having since revisited the episodes I skipped, while some of them are pretty great, I think there's an argument to be made (mind you, it's one I don't necessarily subscribe to) that watching the same character beats hit over and over again in episodes 2-38 could actually detract from the emotional impact of the finale. Cause by the end we've seen so many "Ryunosuke is so in bro-love with Takeru" episodes (just for example) that one's reaction might be like, "UGH, we get it already, these characters are annoying, I don't care about what they do in the finale." Again, not sure how much I support this argument, but it's interesting to think about. In general, I think all Sentai series could drop about 15-20 episodes and be way better. These days I'm too much of an OCD completionist to skip anything, but I always wish the shows were tighter paced. (Although there is probably also a case to be made that fighting your way through the bad episodes gives you a sort of Stockholm Syndrome-esque attachment to the show and its characters. :lol ) Quote:

Well, I love Ninninger because it gave me plenty of what makes me love toku to begin with: great suit action. Though it's quite clear that it's a kids show, it doesn't bother me as much as some of the other series.

Would it be possible for Super Sentai to bring in new colors such as Bronze and Teal for future series?
|
I don't see why not. Kyoryuger had a teal ranger. I think they generally prefer to stick with the standard colors though, they pop well.
|
Teal? Cyan? There was a teal zyudenchi though

Will they do a Goranger Movie like Kamen Rider 1 Movie?
Giving 2016 is 40th Anniversary of Super Sentai It make sense! Since there won't be Super Hero Taisen movie (Thank god!) and Shoji Yonemura won't be writing for Sentai If they did a Goranger movie, It's probably have Akaranger searching for 5 replacement for Goranger because he's getting older and actor who played Kiranger is dead It will be a same team but different people like for example Hank Pym give his Ant-Man Suit to Scott Lang Akaranger is Hank Pym of Goranger They actually did this before when Retsu Ichijouji retires and give the role of Gavan to Geki Jumonji I know Goranger Movie won't happens but if Kamen Rider 1 is a new character, Maybe they did this because Hiroshi Fujioka doesn't want to keep playing Kamen Rider 1 due him being very old Out of Toku Superhero who got a modern redesign, Super Sentai is only one who didn't get a modern redesign! Which is a perfect opportunity to give a modern redesign to Goranger! |

Will Super Sentai ever do a Female Green or Black Ranger? Because some fans are complaining about Super Sentai not having an official Female Green or Black Ranger and what is the reason for that?

Do you all agree that when it comes to Super Sentai, stick to tradition of color and theme ideas?
|
They don't stick to themes...

Nothing. That's why different series bounce from place to place...
What are you trying to ask? |

I think they tend to go with common colors that are bold and have a lot of "pop". The standard Red, Blue, Yellow, Green, Black, White, and Pink all contrast each other well and make for a very vibrant looking team. Orange and Purple both look nice too, but they aren't really as popular. Silver shows up sometimes too, but I personally think Silver rangers usually look kind of bad, so...
The colors I listed are tried and true, so I don't think they'll really be changing it, unless they're purposely trying to try something new. To be honest though, I don't see that happening. As for themes, the suits usually reflect the theme of the show (dinosaurs, ninja, trains, etc.) but that's about it. Each season has its own theme to differentiate it from other seasons. There doesn't really seem to be any sort of pattern when it comes to the themes though, so they likely just go with whatever sounds good or works with the plot they've written. Or something completely different, I don't pretend to know how the writing process works at Toei. |
What is the best software to draw Sentai Rangers of your own for Fan-Fiction?
|
Microsoft Paint
|
Has anyone seen the Dekaranger movie and if so was worth watching?
|
10 years after? I thought it was entertaining. If you liked the season, I think you will like 10 years after.
