Still waiting to know if Minipla Ninja/Shogun Megafalconzord is compatible with Titanus.
|
I finished building Muketi Shogun the other day.
PROS: - Good GRIEF, the final combined mecha is gorgeous. Since I'm newish to the franchise, I'm simply not accustomed to Sentai mecha design that's this stylish and cohesive. The individual mecha colors don't totally skew the finished form. - Shockingly good articulation, both in the individual component mecha and the final combined form. That both arms are put together so you can fake a convincing two-handed grip on the sword is really satisfying. - The build instructions are clear, and everything fits together nicely. - The vac metal on the sword and the Shogun chest looks great. - Some thoughtful accessories, like swappable hands for two of the component mecha to better hold their weapons. - Mostly really clever engineering. There's movement in the fingers, so it can look like it's gripping, or maybe like a fist. (This is not necessary to get the sword to stay put. It just looks nice.) CONS: - The articulation in combined form comes at the cost of stability. My attempts to get it into some dynamic poses involved a lot of stuff popping off, especially the skirt armor. - Transforming the red mecha's legs is just a miserable experience, as the rotating connection is so tight, the plastic (a) barely budges, and (b) is clearly risking breakage just trying to get the back and front to turn in tandem. While that tightness is great for posing the legs in its individual robot form, it's a nightmare to transform. I'm not sure I'm even willing to try transforming it again. It's a shame, since the basic design of the legs' transformation is so clever. - The many tight connections means you often have to manhandle the moving parts, which is hell on any stickers you've applied. - I can't tell whether I made a build error, or if the blue mecha's shoulders, when in arm mode, are just built to have a somewhat-unsightly gap. By comparison, the lack of a gap on the white mecha is awesome. - The face stickers for the individual mecha are hideously easy to misalign, leaving their eyes lopsided forever; I can't figure out why they were included to begin with, since most of the faces have sufficient paint. - The plastic connections on the sprues are really thick. You'll end up with nastier plastic flash than if they'd used cheaper plastic with smaller connection points. My build time was probably doubled because I had to use an exacto knife on nearly every piece. - I keep wishing they'd found a way to put the red mecha's (and thus Muketi Shogun's) head on a ball joint. - Another wishlist item that didn't happen: someplace to put the heads of the black and yellow mecha when transformed. This mecha largely eschews parts-forming, but two heads just have to be popped off and set aside. All together, it's still very good; it's just more pleasant to look at than to try to pose, at least where the legs are concerned. The engineering is insanely clever, and where it succeeds, it's just a delight. For me, this is much better than Daizyujin and Dragon Caesar, despite the flaws. |

Since the sentai model kit area has been growing more and more, an approach more towards how gundam does it may be something that'll need to be looked into with the rubber caps in the future. A lot of the negatives you pointed out sound like they could be solved if it wasn't a plastic on plastic approach. So a new high end premium style may be something that'll need to be looked into overall, which in theory can bolster scaling too. (Though I'm personally a fan of their current size, I can see others wanting more scale variety to match their preferred gundam scale.) As for one of your other "cons". It's sacrilege to hand 'pop' them out or use an exacto knife, invest in some high grade nippers. Have you learned nothing from the Frame Arts anime and Gundam Build Anime? xD |

Don't have a lot of new pictures, but I did find a few more for Series EX.
Got our first look at SirenStriker: https://img.amiami.com/images/produc...0239585_05.jpg And our first look at VictoryStriker: https://img.amiami.com/images/produc...0239585_06.jpg |
Bam. More pics.
Victory Striker: https://cdn-ak.f.st-hatena.com/image...1108221840.jpg Siren Striker: https://cdn-ak.f.st-hatena.com/image...1108213321.jpg Arms: https://cdn-ak.f.st-hatena.com/image...1108223004.jpg Group Shot: https://cdn-ak.f.st-hatena.com/image...1112164637.jpg This will probably be it till Ryuusouger. |
I caved. Both of those look great on Good Striker, and Lupin Magnum looks fun.

Bandai's Candy Toy Blog has been updated with photos in hand photos for Super Minipla King Gridman and Gridman Sigma:

Not exclusively Mini-Pla related, but Candy Toy - does anyone have any sticker recommendations for keeping stickers stuch down (ie ways of making sure you don't cover the whole arm in glue). I'm trying to sticker up a Build RabbitTank figure, and there's one on his leg which is refusing to stay down.
And, to make this tangentially related, that Siren Striker looks pretty damned cool. |

And maybe one more 'big' thing. But that one I'm unsure of. But otherwise, that should be the complete lineup, and may be the complete finished lineup too. Ryuusouger should have a decent amount. Going back to some of the Kyu dynamic pack setups and somewhere between Kyu's amount to Lupin's, kind of actively blending the two on amount depending on how well it takes off with audiences. |
HLJ is having their weekly sale and some minipla are on sale:
Super Minipla Muteki Shogun for 4675 yen: https://hlj.com/super-mini-pla-ninja...5pcs-bann25092 Minipla Lupinkaiser box of 12 for 2100 yen: https://hlj.com/mini-pla-vs-vehicle-...2pcs-bann22334 |
The Good: Galaxy and Delta Mega look amazing, and I'm very glad Bandai gave us both together.
The Bad: Jet Garuda being P-Bandai only |
Okay but seriously, Dairanger Minipla when? I NEED Dairen'oh and Won Tiger in my life.

Broken camera(broken viewfinder screen), and no well lit up place for pics, let alone apparently a camera that wants to hold a battery charge.
But I wanted to show off some of the Kyu kits I've been painting up. Did Kerberios in a pure metallic blue and silver, with hand painted face alternate head. And since I had an extra Scorpion, went ahead and did it up in Scorpina/Lamy colors. While I was on this Kyu bender though... Went a little overkill and ordered an extra Kerberios to paint into what I'm calling the "RinShiShi Voyager". A ShiShi Voyager for Rio from Gekiranger. And it wouldn't be complete of course without a Super Rinshishi(okay that's just fun to say)! And since I did have two Shishi Voyagers already, did one as a Dark Shishi Voyager from the extra head that comes with Kerberios as well. When I can get a better camera and a better place to do pictures, I'll try to get some better shots to show off the hand painted faces better too, and the alternate head for Kerberios. Did a mix of stickers to paint for some, some are straight up stickers only, and the Rinshishi(still fun to say, it's like saying Rafikiki) is pure hand painted only as is the "Scorpina Voyager". Eventually want to do all the limbs on the "Rinshishi" as gold variants. But for now only have the extra Scorpion and the Super Lion. |
Nice. Alternate colour schemes are a good use for repeats

Gotta admit I love the Kyu combining system, though I do tend to prefer the universal approach of minipla of years prior. But the Kyu retool/repaint potential is really darn high. Makes me want to get a couple of Huoh Gigante for the torso piece. *Edit* Made a second picture attempt with new batteries, but lighting and location still isn't the best and same broken viewfinder screen. Decided to go with some Gattai Madness though in random combos from what I got while at it. Before they age up too much more than they already have. The last one is a work in progress custom thing. Uses a combination of Construct-a-bots to Kre-O/Lego/Mega Construx. It's a combo test system I started working on a little bit back to test out some ideas easier. Do gotta admit that Deka Wings and Gekifire arms are still my two personal faves. DekaWings especially for how they combine so well to so many. Makes me want to see a DekaBlue and LupinRed team-up now. |

Thanks to Figsoku's Facebook page. Probably up at other sources too, but that one crossed my facebook feed first.
Here's the Ryusoulger Minipla. |
Looking pretty good. Might be able to make some interesting non-canon forms with duplicates.

How they can do so many new ways to combine the mecha is a blast. Like I didn't do photos of it, but BoukenPink's submarine on Gekifire arms makes a fantastic battering ram/blaster. And Boukenyellow makes a neat Chainsaw arm attachment with the tread tires. And like my Daibouken ship in the pics, sometimes you can combine them for random fan modes like that too where it feels like a bunch of teams stuck together isolated in some new dimenison or lost in space, and having to use what they have to make a way to survive. I've always felt this should be where more of the team-ups should go when possible, combining the Mecha with cross-series emphasis. At least the ones that could because of the way they combined. There's a ton of combo potential that could draw on nostalgia really well too. Lots of untapped story potential in that. And some like DekaBlue's jet mixed with Striker, can be done from as few as only two rangers. Ryusoulger's minipla is going to be fun. Going to love getting duplicates of those and playing the wide combo potential. Gotta really praise them on this one. You're right, it really does push an aspect of buy extra, because you'll use all the extra ones. |
So I just came into ownership of a bunch of Lupinranger arm kits and the red Good Striker. I am currently trying to decide between looking to unload them or trying to find the 01 set. Anyone interested either way?
|
On Ryusoulger's kits. It looks like the combining spots have ample room on the back and the underneath of the crotch. So we might be in for other some kind Dragon form with wings via a Pterodactyl or some other interesting power ups.

I should have probably specified: it’s Set 3, so the motorcycle, crane, helicopter, and stealth bomber set.
The only reason I’m not inclined to keep them is that I have nothing that turns into a head. |

My mini pla have moved on to a new home where they will be able to frolic with their own kind.
|
I was able to pick up the Galaxy Mega set, and I'm very impressed. I can't tell how much that's due to what the Super Minipla people did with it and how much is just the terrific base design. I only started on Sentai in the past seven years or so, so I'm not used to anything quite so sleek or ingenious as the Megaranger and Dairanger mecha. Galaxy Mega is shockingly cohesive, and its joined form with Delta Mega looks remarkably well-thought-out, with little touches like the thrusters from Delta Mega moving to cover up up Galaxy Mega's hands so the arms look like a reasonable booster pack.
Some of the joints are a little prone to slippage, but altogether, these two are a great package. |

Hello!
Long time fan of Sentai and PR, first time posting! I've recently gotten into some of the MiniPla kits, mostly Mugen Saga and some GaoGaiGar, and I absolutely love them! I'm thinking of getting into the Sentai MiniPla as well. I'm looking at the Muteki Shogun Super Mini-Pla and think that looks spectacular. Although, I've now discovered the Ryuusouger MiniPla and WOW! The only issue I'm having is availability and price. According to HLJ, the Three Knights set has been discontinued, and they had it for about £12 GBP. Only seems to be available for about £30 elsewhere :/ To me, advantages of Shogun are that it is a more complicated set and the nostalgia value. Advantages of Ryuusouger are that there will be more with lots of combining fun! (One last thing. HLJ seems to have the 3rd entry in the Ryuusouger stuff listed, but not the 2nd? Is the 2nd series of Ryuusouger kits not mech? Any help and info here would be greatly appreciated!) What are your thoughts? Any suggestions on kits at decent prices and where I could order them? I'm UK based :) Thanks in advance :D |
I'm UK-based too so hopefully can answer most of your questions :)
As far as prices go, your best places to go are Nippon Yasan (only for the Super Mini-Pla line though, they don't stock the mainline Super Sentai stuff), Amiami, Hobbylink Japan or Hobbysearch. Personally I stick to Nippon Yasan and Amiami for pretty much everything, but different strokes etc. They all have their advantages and disadvantages. One important distinction to make though is that Nippon Yasan mark their parcels down, while the others will (as they're legally obligated to) put the full price on the top. This is important for UK buyers because it means N-Y stuff evades the dreaded customs fees, whilst the other places are all at risk of being stung by them. I try to get everything from N-Y now simply because I can't afford the additional £15+ every time I order something. The Shogun Megazord set is EXCELLENT. One of the best model kits I own. Nicely articulated individual figures and a great combined mode. I'm on the fence about getting KishiRyuOh but other than that I'm dropping out of the mainline Super Sentai minipla so won't be able to offer a whole lot of thoughts on it, but it looks like a pretty solid kit. Of course being cheaper than the Super Minipla line means the plastic quality is cheaper (though not a lot in it, if anything its the Super Minipla line is overpriced) and the kit will be A LOT more reliant on stickers for detailing. Even though sites are listing KishiRyuOh as discontinued right now, it'll almost certainly be back in stock once it's released. Same thing always happens with them - they go out of stock after initial preorders and then come back in for a while around release. Not sure about set 02 not being there but 03 being there, but again I'd say just keep an eye out and they'll probably show up closer to release. If you have any other questions let me know! |
Thank you so much for the reply! I have ordered sets 01 and 03 on AmiAmi and due to how cheap they are, under £15, I'm hoping I won't get stung with customs!
I think I am going to go for the Shogun set sometime next month perhaps, maybe sooner depending on price and availability :) I shall post some pics when I get my sets all built up :D Thanks again for your help! :) |

I've been hit a few times, but more expensive. Never ordered anything that low before really. Gotta say, very excited to get my hands on them :) it's worked out at just about £20 delivered so that's brilliant :) I don't know why. But the £28 on eBay seemed an awful.lot compared to £20.........
This thread has so many pics of amazing sets that I am a little gutted I haven't collected these for longer, but eBay prices are insane! What have been some of your most recent MiniPla purchases? |

Older releases are of course quite hard to find, but I found some. Found them on yahoo auction using a middleman service and a few on mandarake. |
I love the Dekaranger designs! One of the mech series I would love to get! Only managed to handle a DX version for the first time quite recently thanks to a mate :)
Got any pics of your Dekaranger MiniPla? Any favourites from amongst the ones you own? |
