I don't know about shininess but I believe once you receive the egg from the day-care man, everything else is set. IV's, nature, ability, etc.

Yes. Once you receive an egg, it is set. Including shininess. Sort of. The shininess would only apply to you because it depends on your secret ID. So say you get a shiny egg, you hatch it, it's shiny, done. If you were to trade that egg, it probably won't be shiny for that person.

Alternatively, if you were to receive an egg in a trade, it could come out shiny for you even if it wasn't shiny for them. But as long as the egg does NOT switch trainers between receiving and hatching, it's pretty "set"

Hmm, can you trade eggs? I tried doing that and it didn't work.

You can't Wonder Trade them but you should be able to normal trade them. Unless that's changed after the whole bad egg scare.

I haven't tried in 6th gen. But I usually custom breed a team for my second game and trade the eggs over so they'll have my OT. Don't want them growing too fast now that it's so much easier.
